I need Pacific Rim 2. I know it's not a movie for thinkers and there are plenty of things that don't make sense, but that movie is just so much fun
A sequel would be perfect, even if they managed to shoehorn some reason they'd be up against kaijus again through techno/psycho-babble, it could work out very well because Pacific Rim isn't some super serious movie with some directer/writers that have their heads up their asses over making it a super serious film, but it's a fun film with so much creativity and effort involved. It's got perfect amounts of action, comedy, some serious parts that aren't over-the-top (which are just fine with the way the film is), but fit well with the atmosphere and plot of the film. It's a perfectly fine film! If he just sticks with that, he'll make bank and add to the Pacific Rim universe a very good installment. I really, truly hope he doesn't focus on anything else, and puts his all into a PR sequel. We already love him, and he shouldn't have to worry about cancelling this and that left and right, because it'll just look like his career is going down the drain, as unbelievable as that may sound with his track record of great films. I wish him the best, truly.
According to the comic prequels, there were more than one rifts(I think). The one in the film was probably either the big one, or the last one. I'm sure they'll make a good excuse to make another breach in the in the world, and of course, more Jaegers to stop the aliens. I hope Crimson Peak is a success. It looks great, plus it might be the only way for PR 2 to be funded.
didn't it make a huge profit oversees though?

Goddamnit no please no. It was one of the action movies I was looking forward. Why isn't PR popular as stupid garbage like Furious 7?
Give me giant robutts or give me death
I don't really see why people called Pacific Rim's plot mediocre, it had as much plot as was warranted, and it did the human aspect of the movie really well, far better than Godzilla did with its boring main character doing boring main character things. Besides, the plot could always be "Yeah the aliens weren't happy we nuked them, turns out that just made their revenge boner stronger" and now has giant fucking beasts AND aliens.
Honestly, even though I loved Pacific Rim, I was not really excited for the sequel at all. It's mostly because Del Toro's teased so many other BETTER-sounding movies, like trying to make At the Mountains of Madness, and suggesting teaming up with Robert Rodriguez to make another Heavy Metal movie. I would MUCH rather see either of those than another Pacific Rim. Hell, I'm even more excited for Crimson Peak than I ever would have been for Pacific Rim 2. I just want to see him making as many DIFFERENT movies as possible, because he's got such a variety of ideas. That's why I wasn't excited for Hellboy 2, wouldn't be excited for any MORE Hellboy movies, and have not been excited for Pacific Rim 2. I don't want him to get locked into a bunch of sequels, because he always does his best work when he's exploring new territory, with movies like The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth.
Pacific Rim is the closest that live action can get to anime without being Kill Bill I need more giant robots and I will take a front row seat if it happens
if pacific rim 2 gets cancelled because of fucking king kong i'm gonna be so legitimately upset there's not enough films about big mechs fucking shit up, whereas king kong has already been in cinemas since like, what, 1933. i couldnt even watch the peter jackson version of it without falling asleep halfway through.
This is the reason the first movie was mediocre.
If you went into a theatre to see a movie about giant gundam like mechs fighting kaiju and expected China Town level screenplay, you need to look in a mirror and reconsider your expectations.
The only thing I remember from the Peter Jackson version of King Kong was the fucking worms. I prefer mecha to giant apes any day.
Transformers gets non stop shitty sequels, but Pacific Rim, which was actually OK, gets no sequels.
Was there really any reason to make a second one? Plot wise I mean
Another rift opens up meaning more monsters and more giant robots. I think they were toying with the idea that whoever controlled the Kaiju salvaged the remains of Gypsy Danger and reverse engineered it, resulting in Mecha-Kaiju.
Nononono please, my friends and I are so hyped for a sequel.

I was so sad when Cherno Alpha went down so quickly, that thing was badass to the core
Guillermo needs to stick to this, seriously. It's been a long while since we've had a very satisfying kaiju/giant robots movie. [editline]17th September 2015[/editline]
holy fuck that would be so metal and so badass I hope we get more variety in the jaegers though. I was so sad when Cherno Alpha went down so quickly, that thing was badass to the core
Yeah, I thought it sucked ass that the other jaegers didn't seem to stand a chance, even with the effort they put in. I guess it could have to do with the kaiju just coming through a lot heartier and more cunning than the jaeger pilots could manage and actually train for. Just look at the triplets, even with the extra brain power they had and good reflexes, they got cut down way too quickly for my liking.
Its a real shame. While The Strain isnt exactly 10/10(largely del toros work on it) hes still someone with good vision. I really thought he was perfect for Silent Hills considering he was working with other game devs. Hes like someone whos great but needs someone else with him. I just want more Del Toro but all his projects have been fucked in the ass recently which is a huge shame. I mean if The Strain does one thing right its solid camera, and work set design, two things that would help and Silent Hills game because all past 4 have fucked themselves in those 2 regards.
It's a shitload better than most of anything else on television bar FtWD, TWD and GoT.
holy fuck that would be so metal and so badass I hope we get more variety in the jaegers though. I was so sad when Cherno Alpha went down so quickly, that thing was badass to the core
Really sad they just set up Cherno for the Worf effect, seems like it was just a bad forced script change since they set up the machines with so much backstory and character (probably my favorite thing about the movie).
couldn't afford the daytime fight-scene budget I guess
I didn't even like Pacific Rim that much but Pacific Rim 2 getting shitcanned in favour of fucking KING KONG is hilariously stupid.
It will be a tragedy if it gets cancelled.
This world needs more giant anime robots, I mean really what will future generations have to grow up with? Plus PLOT WISE the movie doesn't really need a sequel but concept wise there is a lot of stuff that the first movie didn't seem like it had time to get to and really most of it was concerning the Jagers themselves, we never really saw much of them aside from when they were used to smash some knifehead in and that was mainly do to the plot I know but still More giant robots, we need more giant robots, put Gilmo to work.
This is the reason the first movie was mediocre.
You're right, because they were too busy shoehorning a plot into a movie about Giant Robots VS Giant Monsters.
So, this may not get a sequel, but M. Night Shamalamadong get's a sequel to The Last Airbender? There is no justice.
Depends. It's a specific type of movie. I (and with me many others) didn't give a fuck the plot was mediocre. GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING GIANT ALIENS FUCK YEAH
And specific types of movies don't sell.
