It was based on a children's book that did OK.
But they totally destroyed the story when they tried to take the story from a 20-page picture book and tried to make it into a 90-minute movie.

Disney keeps trying to figure out how to do a great CG movie so that they can stop working with Pixar, but unfortunately for Disney they are fucking horrible at making movies these days.

The story for the book was written by the guy who wrote/drew Bloom County.
