Thin woman bumped from flight to allow 14 year old fatty to have 2 seats
The problem is not the weight, but the consequences.
Most of the overweight people don't feel good in their body, they are angered and caustic about it, even though it's their complete fault. Some accept it's their one and only fault, but some other must absolutely place the origin on someone else's shoulders, and that's where the problem begin because their permanent anger of themselves lead them to hate other people, because they are thinner or simply because they can look at his/her body and think (s)he is overweight.
A lot of fat people act like this : they just can't take the responsibility of being fat, so they assume it's the fault of people, just like they didn't decide to eat like fuck and become overweight.
So, to come back to your question, he, and I, and a lot of people give a damn about other people's weight because most of the time overweight turn people into real assholes. And apparently it's the case of this girl : she became so fat, caustic and angered about herself and society she estimates she deserves a reward, something more to compensate what society supposedly turned her into. So, when the flight company proposed her to kick a thin woman (what a bitch, she was thinner than her, what an insult) out of the plane to take her seat plus her original one to fit her ass in the seats, she wouldn't say no in front of such a chance to take her revenge against people who take care of themselves.

You guys need to think a bit more instead of just posting a random answer everytime you don't get a post.
What exactly gives you the right to make such sweeping generalizations? I'm not going to touch on your "fat people blame everyone but themselves" comment because Facepunch is always ignorant like that (be it on obesity, unemployment, homelessness, whatever) but I WILL touch on your "she did this to get revenge" comment.
There is nothing in the fucking article to indicate that the 14-year-old even KNEW someone was being bumped off the flight to accommodate her. The airline made a judgment call: kick two people off or kick one person off. Bumping the single woman to the next flight was a better PR move (and more economical) than bumping a family of two off and leaving one empty seat on the plane. Was it morally right? No. Was it right from a business standpoint? Yes.
It isn't likely that the family was even being told that they were being given someone else's spot.
And by the way, as a sidenote, if someone is THAT fat at 14 it ISN'T their fault. It's the fault of the parent.
Do people also refuse to give there seat to grannies on the bus BECAUSE I WAS HERE FIRST LAWL?
There is a difference between a bus and a plane you know.

Other than duration of travel and the physical shape/mode of transportation I can't think of much
What gets me is that a family somewhere managed to get their daugher so fat that she took up two seats, and managed to do this within 14 years. Thats almost impressive. I mean, usually you'd expect that sort of obeseity to become apparent at about 20.
I'm overweight.
By like, five pounds.
I'm underweight.
By 51.9 pounds.
Other than duration of travel and the physical shape/mode of transportation I can't think of much
The cabin of a bus isn't pressurized.
I'm underweight.
By 51.9 pounds.
Christ almighty
That's probably more unhealthy than being overweight by that much. I wonder if you could just pay for a half seat...
The cabin of a bus isn't pressurized.
I say that falls under mode of transportation.
Other than duration of travel and the physical shape/mode of transportation I can't think of much
Do you buy your bus seat days in advance as well?
I'm underweight.
By 51.9 pounds.
Whoa what, you must have a crazy metabolism?
That is a lot to be underweight by. I know a few people who are a few pounds underweight due to their metabolism but 50? Whoa.
Wow this is some bullshit.
Don't blame the kid, think of the asshole parents that LET the kid get that fat in the first place.
Don't blame the kid, think of the asshole parents that LET the kid get that fat in the first place.
the parents are most likely fat fucks as well
Remember this: If we have an obesity problem, we don't have a starvation problem.
(Only applies to 1st world countries apparently)
It's technical malnourished either way
Yes being fat is considered malnourished...it applies to both over and under weight
why should it even be standard protocol to ask for a volunteer to leave the plane when a fat and late passenger requires 2 seats? I mean seriously, tell them to wait for the next flight. That's complete bullshit
Standby means she doesn't actually have a seat, there is no guarantee she is getting on the plane. It's a cheaper ticket usually only aviable for relatives of the personell. I don't really get the part with paying for the last seat, I've never heard of that before.
It's really dumb how they don't force the fat kid to pay for the second seat, but with a standby ticket you usually rely on taking the seats of late passengers (that's the whole idea of standby, low price, high risk, good reward.)
blah blah needs to be in OP blah
.
Also, we really need to kill all fat people in the world, they're all useless and do nothing but harm.
to be honest, most seats on flights are pretty small anyways, no matter how small you are. I'm not proposing making special "large" seats, just I see why some people have trouble fitting into just one.
inb4 HAHA UR OVURWEIGHT U FAT SYMPATHIZER
:/
Small percentage of all fatties, I'm sure.
Not really. It's a common condition which can be triggered by both genetics and environmental factors.
It has largely gone un-diagnosed and treated for three major reasons:
1) Lack of universal health care means people cannot afford to waste money on a doctor's visit.
2) People tend to believe that it is their fault.
3) Moreso than the other two, doctors use a scale for measuring thyroid function which is outdated (Though their scale already clocks hypothyroidism as being a solid 3% of the population. Which is huge.). When using an updated scale we realize that thyroid function is playing a huuuuge part in obesity. You give Thyroxine to people who just can't seem to lose weight with a diet and there is a good chance they will start losing weight.
(And no. I'm not fat and my thyroid works quite well.)
