Its about personal safety. Im not going to step on a powerline so that you can cross over it.
Why do you have to step on a powerline? Can't you just step over it and avoid it all together?
They protecting him and others from THC and cannabinoids!
And all the free stuff they can confiscate along with it.
A sudden forced entry of heavily armed police squad in a country where almost every household has a firearm and they are told to act fast so the evidence doesn't get destroyed because of their brief announced entry. It's basically a recipe for a disaster and it's used on a daily basis. Surely there has to be a better way of doing it (assuming we ignore the fact that the drug part of this issue could also be improved massively).
I have an idea. The police start carrying non-military grade shit. And the citizens stop carrying.
Has SWAT teams ever done something good?
I was about to rate you friendly until this point. Are you fucking serious, SWAT and other hostage rescue teams have saved countless lives.
How are there this many fuck ups with these SWAT teams?
If you've ever done urban training/room clearances you'd know why. If you're the first guy into the room, your eyes are still adjusting to the light, and you have literally half a second to make a decision. If you see a guy holding an assault rifle you're going to shoot him. It's as simple as that because at the end of the day, these police want to go home to their families. They are just doing their job. There has been a lot of anger against any kind of law enforcement on these forums lately mainly due to a few isolated incidents in the recent riots. For one I'd be interested to hear your proposal for a world that doesn't need laws to be enforced, but wishing for horrible things to happen to police in general is just messed up. I've had a Facepunch forums account for much longer than I've been involved in the military and I consider myself to be a typical Facepuncher, but in this situation I would have done the same thing
I have an idea. The police start carrying non-military grade shit. And the citizens stop carrying.
Except the criminals who generally have the attitude of 'dilligaf' have guns, and woop!
Other countries get away with not having police well enough armed to act as fucking soldiers.
They're not normal police, they're called in when things are too dangerous for normal police, even European countries have forces like that
Someone is entering his house and says police then immediately breaks in and shoots. He had, what, 1-2 seconds to process that?
then shouting "Police!" in English and Spanish. With a thrust of a battering ram, they broke the door open. Eight seconds passed before they opened fire into the house.
They're not normal police, they're called in when things are too dangerous for normal police, even European countries have forces like that
This, Way back in the 50's or 60's in texas, a sniper in a bell tower at a college was killing people, he killed several people, and it took a while for cops to get to him because of improper training, and because of that the first SWAT team was formed. Way back when, when the Olympics were hosted in Germany, some terrorists held several Israeli athletes hostage, and executed them, Because of that, Germany started their own form of SWAT. Many other countries have SWAT like teams, and every now and again, they fuck up.
Why is this suddenly in the mainstream news? I heard about this months ago.
Was any of this even necessary? Do we really need teams that storm into peoples houses, armed to the teeth, expecting to find or kill a druglord? Are there not safer ways to investigate crime? And if you say the drugs would be hidden or the criminals would escape, is it really worth giving up our security for a chance at catching these people? It sickens me how far America has come from what its founders intended.
Hahaha I love how nobody read more than 5 sentences of the article before coming to their conclusions.
Look at it from a SWAT member's perspective if the last few raids you've been to ended up in an exchange of Gunfire (especially so close to the border, where many drug cartel's operate). When you have a man pointing a loaded weapon at you, you want to make sure that it's you who leaves there alive. While I do feel sympathy for the family just by the fact he tried to defend them from an unknown force with the only knowledge that, "They were shooting outside.", mistakes happen.
Riots? fuck off
I'd pepper spray you right in the mouth if I had the chance
If you're going to raid the house of a former Marine, a man who's been trained better than you and has been through hell and back, you better expect something like this, especially if it's the middle of the night and you start hearing what sounds like gunshots outside the house.I can see where the SWAT team is coming from, don't get me wrong, but it's not a good idea to raid someone's house in the middle of the might when they have been through a war.
Has SWAT teams ever done something good?
Yes, a lot actually.
Only 22 out of 71 rounds hit their target? Between this and SWAT team members tripping over their shoes it sounds like this was a very poorly trained and undisciplined police force. Not to mention it sounds like there was very little evidence against the guy (if any) in the first place.
This is so fucking old....
It depends, but yeah they do the whole point of SWAT is that they're better armed and trained than normal officers (hence the name Special Weapons And Tactics)
I thought they use M16/M4s
This is 6 months old.
I thought they use M16/M4s
SWAT aren't a standardised Police Unit, the gear they use varies depending on the Police Department they belong to. Many departments use the MP5, but some the MP7, or the FN P90, for example. The AR-15 itself is basically the civilian version of the M16 or M4 Carbine.
I thought they use M16/M4s
The M16 is an AR15, and the M4 is basically the M16 as a carbine [editline]28th November 2011[/editline]
SWAT aren't a standardised Police Unit, the gear they use varies depending on the Police Department they belong to.
Seriously, fuck the drug war. Ruining innocent people's lives. On top of that, little to no evidence was found of him even being involved with anything.
Ha, you think the main reason for his death was the drug war? The cops didn't follow protocol and the search warrant was bad, IE a shitty police force.
The SWAT team themselves shouldn't be blamed, they simply responded to what they thought was the situation, it's the guy that organized this shit that should be blamed.
The SWAT didn't follow protocol, you're NOT supposed to fire that many bullets into one man. At all.
To be very fair the shooting was justified but it's sad how that had to happen (the SWAT teams saw a guy with a gun, they did what was natural and responded)
Responded by emptying over an entire magazine into him?
no knock warrants are fucked
Shitty swat team, they fired 71 times and only 22 hit. Trigger-happy murderers, America is turning into a police state.
