I think it is very dumb to jump to a conclusion that STEAM will be coming to OS X simply because the OS X version of the minimize, maximize, and close buttons are in there.
It is highly possible that it is part of a Mac OS X skin for steam

why would they do that?
Can't see why they would do this unless they port the Source engine to Mac.
I'm a bit confused by what you're saying. You seem to be confusing OSX for iPhone OS? Because OSX has no 'app' store. No company would ever launch a competing app store for the iPhone because they would be subject to all kinds of legal action.
It's a safe bet that an app store would be coming to the OSX, I've played around with the beta and it looks like it's meant for a multi-touch interface with zoom features and such.
Also I've had someone in the past try and recruit me to make a third party app store before it was well known how restrictive apple was going to be on the app store, (the idea was to make a better ratting and search experience and have apple pick it up in return of a paycheck), but I had no java or server experience so I didn't take him up on the opportunity. Of coarse he dropped it after the 2nd or 3rd third party app store was shut down, (I think he still wants to make it for android). So I'm well aware of apple's legal team.
Fuck Mac, i want Linux support :saddowns:

Doesn't Steam already work on Linux?
Doesn't Steam already work on Linux?
With Wine it does, if you want to count that.
I'd be surprised if there was a port for Mac coming. I would have thought there'd be more demand for a Linux version.
Wouldn't "all but confirmed" mean that it's everything EXCEPT confirmed?
Why does everyone but me use this phrase the way it makes the least sense
It means Everything isn't confirmed.

Least sense to you possibly.
If something is "all but confirmed" then it means it hasn't officially been confirmed yet. It's really just a matter of time before it's announced and confirms what we all pretty much know is going to happen.
zips what you think about postal 3 running source supposedly running on linux and mac?
zips what you think about postal 3 running source supposedly running on linux and mac?
This just means that those versions of Postal 3 will operate separately from Steam
Though having Steam running natively on Linux and Mac OS X would be cool
why would "stats" change without you even there to play
Who said anything about them changing? It'd just be nice to have an iPhone app to use community features such as chat, gameplay stats etc
It'd would be awesome in my opinion. Since I have both a macbook and a normal desktop computer.
it's just some leftovers from the webkit api.
Sorry mac users for dissapointing you.
qft
I wish they made a client for iPhone, so you could chat with friends, check your stats, etc.
Android as well.
So the Mac will have a new and interesting chat platform...
There's more hints at multi-platform support. In the layout files:
layout
{
place [$WIN32]{ control="frame_title" x=7 y=4 width=max height=24 }
place [$WIN32] { control="Beta" width=145 height=80 y=0 width=max align=right margin-right=31}
place { control="UINavigatorPanel" width=max height=max margin-right=1 margin-left=1 margin-bottom=40 margin-top=22 }
...
}
(taken from steamrootdialog.layout)
Why would they specify the platform in some lines if not for multi-platform support?
What's the point? It's not like any half-decent games support mac.

That's all over the Source Engine. It's because they compile for the 360 too.
I hope it uses X11 or Ncurses so I can actually compile it to Linux instead of continuing having to run it in Wine.

Linux would be such a huge step as far as open source software goes.
Imagine even having a platform to deliver games to linux.
Yeah, imagine reaching the 100's of people that use Linux as a desktop!
If Steam is actually ported to Mac OS X I would finally have a reason to no longer dual-boot my MacBook.
Personally I think Postal 3 using the Source Engine and being on both Linux and Mac OS X is probably a test for the engine. If it all goes smoothly then I think Valve will go ahead and release Steam and their Source based games for both Linux and Mac OS X. And they'll probably sell the games that are currently supported on Mac OS X like CoD4, Dragon Age, and etc.
If only they brought Source to OSX as well. Still, this is awesome news, I can catch up with all my steamfriends I've not talked to in 3 months due to refusing to dual boot (need every little byte for music).
Yeah, imagine reaching the 100's of people that use Linux as a desktop!
According to w3school's logs, about 4% of people use Linux as a desktop operating system. Of course, that's probably a bit inflated, but it's certainly enough to show it's more than a few hundred people that use it.

I'm pretty sure that Postal3 isn't going to run natively on the Mac - it'll use some 3rd party application that emulates it running on a PC.
Alright, they're finally making VGUI properly cross-platform!

but you can't get shiny web 2.0 interfaces in the command-line :(

but there'd be no point. that's my point.
"hey yeah what do you know 40 achievements in l4d just like it was when i left the house"
and the chat ehhh maybe but ehhh not really
I just noticed the Windows widgets just got prefixed with win32.
Also the page suggested that chat was "coming soon" was posted 82 days ago.
Point being?

you mean kind of like what EA does for their Mac games? I think they use Cider to port their games and that makes the game run like shit. A good example would be the Battlefield 2142 Cider port.
