http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/07/21/donald-trump-is-sucking-up-and-selling-out-to-putin.html Trump concerns me because he's both ignorant and shows no interest in learning. This concerns me greatly, and this is coming from someone who doesn't rate intellect particularly highly in what they want from a leader, but that isn't the same as wanting stupidity.
Would the United States come to the defense of the Baltic States if they were invaded or attacked by Russia, Haberman asks him. “Have they fulfilled their obligations to us?” Trump answers. “If they fulfill their obligations to us, the answer is yes.” Without specifying what these obligations are, Trump declines to say when the answer might be “no” or whether or not, as president, he’d endorse an Article V resolution to rescue Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania if “little green men” or paratroopers or Spetsnaz descended upon them. I think we can be reasonably assured that he would not, given what one of his GOP cheerleaders, prospective vice presidential consideration and mind-melded anti-Muslim bigot Newt Gingrich has just told CBS This Morning: “Estonia is in the suburbs of St. Petersburg… I’m not sure I would risk nuclear war.”
These stupid men are talking about some of the most dedicated members of the NATO alliance who are paying their way and contributing...
Would Americans die for Narva? What an ugly and stupid question. Estonians have already died for New York. Having only joined NATO three years after the Sept. 11 attacks, and having not lost any citizens to al Qaeda, Estonia deployed a 150-man battlegroup to Afghanistan. That may not sound like a lot, but it is for a country of a million people. As President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, a New Jersey native and former Estonian ambassador to the United States, told me today, “We suffered, per capita, one of the highest casualty rates of anyone in Afghanistan, with a company smack in the middle of Taliban-land in Helmand province. I visited our guys in a low-flying, Taliban fire-evading helicopter. The Brits and Americans thought the Estonian president was nuts.” Estonia is also one of five of the 28 NATO member states to actually spend 2 percent of its GDP on defense, as stipulated as a guideline but not an ironclad requirement. (No, it does not pay this money into American coffers, as Trump seems to think it should.) “Estonia’s commitment to our NATO obligations is beyond doubt, and so should be the commitments by others,” Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand emailed me, in response to Trump’s Times interview.
But not only is he ignorant, he is blatantly authoritarian. Republicans complained continuously during Obama's term about him always 'apologising for America'. To some extent, I agree! But now they select someone who supposedly puts 'America first' and will 'stand up for America', yet comes out with howlers like this, showing that not only that he's anything but pro-America, but also an authoritarian who shows not even the slightest respect for the ideals that any liberal democratic country, let alone America, was founded on:
Asked about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s suspension or arrest of 50,000 people following an abortive coup, Trump says that he admires the Turkish president’s doggedness in hanging onto power by whatever means are at his disposal and isn’t much bothered by who or what gets trampled along the way. America is in no position to judge on human rights or due process because, Trump explains, “Just look about what’s happening with our country. How are we going to lecture when people are shooting our policemen in cold blood? How are we going to lecture when you see the riots and the horror going on in our own country?” I expect this sort of whataboutist moral equivalence from Ayatollah Khamenei’s Twitter feed, Vladimir Putin’s annual press conferences, and the keyboards of the youngest freelancer contributors to Salon
For a long time I thought he was a clever man pretending to be a stupid populist for publicity, attention and good politics, in a way that Ted Cruz, or Nigel Farage are to an extent. However with these ridiculous comments I don't think he is acting anymore. He's just a manchild with no interest in learning and no interest in fact or truth, just a relentless desire for more power, without even a real cause to advance, as seen by his constant untrustworthiness on key issues and flip-flopping. There has never been a man more unsuited to the Presidency in the history of the United States. He has none of the qualities that anyone should look for in a leader, and will be a disaster for the country and the repercussions will be momentous across the world. If you like Trump's style, I would recommend moving to Russia or Turkey. It might suit you more.

Seems like a serious backpedal for him, but he does seem to support authoritarian candidates.

He isn't really all that interested in exercising power and doing things, just having it to satisfy his own ego. He's relentless for being in a position of power, not actually using it because that would require him not be an ignorant fool, regardless of his aims in office.
Trump is a highly intelligent sociopath that will stop at nothing to win the election - this includes pretending to hold stances on issues, pandering to the largest demographic at conventions, and holding no real discernible ideology. This is why so many of his speeches completely contradict one another. At one rally he wants Mexicans out and wants to build a wall, then at another says that he loves Mexicans. Advocating for the wholesale slaughter of the families of terrorists in warzones, and then says that war is not the answer. Countless of more examples out there of his two-faced pandering, but he's not what he appears to be. The man has fooled you into believing he's a dimwitted brute. He's not, he's incredibly aware of the voters at every place he holds his rallies and knows exactly what they statistically want to hear, and there is no telling what his strategy will be come the election. He is not an ignorant fool by any definition, his entire strategy thus far has been making outrageous bold claims that border on fascism so that he could get all the eyes on him, everyone talking about him, bad publicity is good publicity etc. That is literally his game plan. He probably doesn't believe a word he's saying, and that doesn't mean he's secretly a lefty or something, but that he is far more cunning, intelligent and conniving than you paint him as.
Neither of us can really know what Trump is actually about and can see into his mind, and most of what we say is pure speculation. I used to think the same as you, but I think more recent events where he has made unforced errors that I can only see as hurting him, and made ignorant statements that I don't see as particularly helping him, shows that he isn't actually all that clever.

Read the books he wrote, first couple chapters of art of the deal (his stories and advice) are surprisingly relevant to his actions today. He even mentions utilizing intended controversy for free exposure, and using exaggeration to sell (i.e. "We have the best") And that's from at least 20 years ago, maybe 30 I mean I only read the first two chapters but it's amazing how much just those explains about why he does the stuff he does

https://wikileaks.org/dnc-emails/emailid/11548 Just lol. Credits to /r/the_donald
You mean the one, whose ghostwriter came out and said he put lipstick on a pig?
Looks like he said this fairly recently, so I'd take it with a grain of salt since its an autobiographical and holds up to his current methods. If the ghostwriter doesn't like his political stances why wouldn't he come out and use his position to talk shit? He didn't say anything like that in the 30 years its been published, but now that Trump's like 4 months from possibly being a world leader he might if he doesn't like the guy's policy [editline]24th July 2016[/editline] But no, I wasn't aware it was ghostwritten. Isn't ghost writing usually similar to a secretary writing down an email for you though? They do talk things over and discuss content, repeat what they're told, etc from what I know.
To be fair for everyone saying this proves Hillary is corrupt, doesn't this just prove that her supporters in the DNC are corrupt? I don't see any particularly damning emails to or from Hillary in this leak. Hopefully everyone that is exposed gets weeded out of the DNC. I don't have faith that that will happen, but I have hope.
Why is there so much Trump whataboutism in a thread that isn't even about Trump
Any thread about the 2016 DNC is logically going to involve Trump, the opposite parties current nominee. hardly whataboutism.

Honestly, all this bullshit brings up the question... Who's supposed to oversee this, and who would we be able to report it to? Is there just nobody to take care of this in the current government?
Honestly, all this bullshit brings up the question... Who's supposed to oversee this, and who would we be able to report it to? Is there just nobody to take care of this in the current government?
The people are supposed to oversee that the government does its job in serving the people. There are chains of command within the government which try to facilitate its ability to serve, but its not as simple as it is with common law or military command. Let me ask you these questions: Can you call the police when you are being assaulted by a crooked cop for no valid reason? Can you sue someone for corruption when the judge is paid off by the person you are suing? There are systems in place to prevent these issues from happening, but problems still sometimes slip through. The FBI and Attorney General testimonies was an example of Congress trying to bring justice to Clinton's actions with her emails, and so far nothing has been done. There are good people in government but they can't solve everything. The conspiracy and gun nuts think the Democrats want to abolish the 2nd amendment and take away their guns, because guns are the last line of defense an individual person has against the government. This is why they do everything to protect it. Of course you can argue that in an all out war the government has military vehicles and drones, ect, but thats ignoring the point. In England the law says you can't defend yourself with weapons in a mugging. Whoever is robbing you has total power over you because you don't want to get hurt, and even if you can comply they can fuck with you anyway. They don't care that its against the law, or that the police will come later. If you have a gun or even a knife you have the chance to say "this is fucking wrong" and act, with your own power, on what you think is right.
