US silences scientists over man-made super flu that could 'change world history'

oh and you won't be able to coordinate an attack because we took away your social media sites lol"
I fucking hope they created a vaccine for that thing. Even if they destroy it, better safe than sorry.

They may take it from these labs, but like small pox and all that other good stuff, it will just be sent to a secure storage facility to never see the light of day again.

Come down here and eat chicken with me beautiful.
It's so dark.
Not gonna be suprised if someone "magically" catches this flu, then it spreads. Then apocalypse, I saw this on a History Channel documentary.
Theres always a greedy fuck who could be handed out a bit of money for it... Lets hope not though...
Pretty much this. It's pretty stupid to think that the US would use it as some "Apocalypse weapon".
They know how the flu works, they probably have the antidote. So why SHOULDNT they use it as a weapon?
Rogue states like the US dont give a fuck about regulations and even their own laws as they have already shown several times.
A handful of nuclear bombs could pretty much destroy the earth, yet we still have those.
Nuclear Warfare atleast has the assurance that on the other end of that weapon is a guy pointing the exact same weapon at you. M.A.D.
Biological weapons don't have two parties, just you and a couple of proteins that just happen to be really good at killing you.

Germany has shown us they don't give a fuck about regulations many, many times

Hay, leave them alone. These are the guys that think video games will bring on another Hitler and that nuclear energy generation is going to cover their country in radioactive waste. It's understandable they'd be afraid of us doing infectious disease experiments, we might just decide to kill the whole world.
Been here before.
The viral strains already have the components that can mutate and become extremely deadly.
Withholding the methodological data is pointless because it can easily transposed into this instance.
Hell, I'll post a step by step guide to doing it:
1) Procure the H5N1 virus.
2) Infect a lot of chickens.
3) Get a bunch of ferrets and maximize their contact with infectious agents until the virus spreads.
4) Kill heaps of ferrets and observe until it becomes airborne.
5) Now do step 3 but with humans.
This isn't the most efficient way to do it, and fortunately most organizations with the resources to procure H5N1 aren't too fond of killing billions of people, but even so, it's not exactly nuclear engineering.
Which is precisely why a vaccine should be of immense importance.
First you'd have to genetically modify the virus so it could spread between ferrets. They could possibly have fucked up the virus as they made it possible to spread between ferrets, but that's just me being optimistic.

I must say it's rather worrying that the scientists had to be TOLD not to release all info on how the mutation was made.
I don't see why facepunch is scared, nobody here ever leaves the house so we'll all be fine if this gets out

What happens when I go down to walmart to get more neckbeard fuel like Mountain Dew and Doritos? What then?

Sacrifices need to be made.

Yeah but what if that woman who cleans my room gets sick?
[editline]21st December 2011[/editline]
Who's going to clean my room then? :(
"Get it on for the end of the world..."
If it gets out, im moving to madagascar.
If there's one thing Pandemic 2 tought me, it's that.
Seriously though, they shouldn't be fucking around with this kind of stuff.
Can somebody say Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

Now a couple things need to happen:
-This needs to spread and manifest itself into a zombie-like virus
-Me/my loved ones need to be magically immune
-I need to be the first to Bass Pro Shops when this shit goes down so I can have first dibs on a couple of nice 12 gauges
Then I'll be happy
Just the idea that there is a disease out there that very well could wipe out most of the humans on the planet terrifies me
It would be horrid if some bio-terrorist would get his hands on this and spread it through airports around world. Then 30 years later we would need to send Bruce Willis to this time to stop that terrorist.
Just a possibility.
Mmmh great. Now our govt has all the details about a killer flu that could easily wreck the entire globe. Y'know? The same government that is becoming more and more militarized and has planned to stage terror attacks against his own citizens before.
Boy, I sure will love living through the next couple of decades.

I couldn't imagine what it must feel like to be so paranoid.

oh look at that another one
I couldn't imagine what it must feel like to be so paranoid.
I'd rather be paranoid and prepared than blissfully ignorant and surprised.

Then where's your anti-giant robot storm-built house and several dozen RPG's?

You are really good at stacking unrelated words into a sentence.
