I've been using it for about 4 months now, and I agree in most regards. Really the only thing I miss from Windows 7 is easy access to the shutdown button (with two monitors, swiping down the line between them is a pain to do at speed), although the search not including both "apps" and settings is annoying because half the time when I'm searching it's for something windows considers a setting. Still, all my complaints are just minor issues, and the new start screen arguable is much better than the old in several regards.
There is a power button on your computer for a reason. If you can reach it to turn your computer on, you can more than likely reach it to turn it off. Unless you use some other thing like your keyboard to turn your computer on, then ignore that!
Good to see that Microsoft is making this a free upgrade, most of the stuff in the update should've already been included in Windows 8 IMO.
Honestly, I almost want to switch to Linux just so I can have those.
They are fucking sweet, even if its 100% gimmick.
Does it support multitasking yet? That is literally my last gripe about Windows 8.
Does it support multitasking yet? That is literally my last gripe about Windows 8.
... What? Of course it can run multiple programs at the same time, and you can switch between them, just like since Windows whatever the fuck, probably like 3.0 or something. I've been using it without problems on my desktop since like a bit after launch.
Does it support multitasking yet? That is literally my last gripe about Windows 8.
How did you come to the conclusion it doesn't have that? It does. It always jazz So much of the hate for windows 8 is from shit exactly like this. Misinformation.
My work PC has windows 8, doesn't hinder my work at all, just the same as windows 7.
If possible I'd still rather use Start8. It has features that the ordinary start button doesn't have. But still nice that they are adding it again.
Thankfully there are a million programs that emulate the Start button.

If possible I'd still rather use Start8. It's a big improvement, adapt to change already. You have SO many ways to bring up the start menu which is even more functional now, who needs this button?
internet hate machine: ME HATE CHANGE! ME SMASH!
Speak for yourself brosef, there's a reason It open the Start Menu and not the Start Screen
He is speaking for himself. "I am perfectly fine with that." "I am"
I remember when you lot wanted the start button back but now you don't FP is a weird place
I remember when you lot wanted the start button back but now you don't FP is a weird place
you must be pretty weird yourself if you think the whole of FP shares the same opinions and tastes
I remember when you lot wanted the start button back but now you don't FP is a weird place
FP is not a collective
I thought the "WINDOWS 8 SUX" bandwagon died off when people realized it was actually a faster/more secure/feature packed version of Windows 7.
I thought the "WINDOWS 8 SUX" bandwagon died off when people realized it was actually a faster/more secure/feature packed version of Windows 7.
There still a bandwagon in SH, but not H&S. I usually don't go to any tech related threads in SH.
Speak for yourself brosef, there's a reason It open the Start Menu and not the Start Screen
What is wrong about the Start Screen? People shit on it all the time, but having used it myself, I'd say it's really quite useful and I've been finding myself defaulting to that rather than the desktop a lot of the time. No one ever really defines what's bad about it, and what makes the start menu an incredible idea comparatively. It's opinion obviously, but I feel a lot of hate is thrown for no reason without thinking.
There still a bandwagon in SH, but not H&S. I usually don't go to any tech related threads in SH.
I don't think H&S ever had a bandwagon. And even if it did, I don't think it was anywhere near as severe and uneducated as SH's bandwagon is today (course half of SH is computer illiterate so I guess it's expected)
I remember when you lot wanted the start button back but now you don't FP is a weird place
nobody gives a shit about the start button, because removing it was actually a nice touch for minimalism (I almost always just use the windows key anyway). the problem was the start screen and the lack of the start menu (at least from what I understood)
who needs windows when we have totally free windows
who needs windows when we have totally free windows
remind me in 20 years when they finally reach windows 7 quality
I thought the "WINDOWS 8 SUX" bandwagon died off when people realized it was actually a faster/more secure/feature packed version of Windows 7.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Windows 8, is in fact, Windows 7 SP1, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Blackcomb 2.0. Windows 8 is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another marketing scheme by Microsoft to trick users into trying 7, a full OS as defined by Microsoft. Many computer users run a modified version of 7 every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of 7 which is widely used is often called "Windows 8," and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the 7 system, developed by Microsoft. There really is a Windows 8, and these people are using it, but it is just part of the system they use. Windows 8 is the Graphical User Interface; the program in the system that lets idiots click on things and think they know how a computer works. The Graphical User Interface is an essential part of an operating system that was made for retards, but useless by itself; it can only appear to have a function in the context of the user not knowing how their OS works. The Windows 8 GUI is normally used in combination with the 7 operating system; the whole system is basically Windows 7 with shinier buttons added. All the so called "Windows 8" users are really users of Windows 7 SP1.
who needs windows when we have totally free windows
directx doesn't really work there though so it's about as useful as linux with gaming
directx doesn't really work there though so it's about as useful as linux with gaming
I'd say less so. Linux has really good hardware support now, and it has Wine, which is actually capable (in theory) of translating a large portion of Windows specific calls (up to WinXP reliably, last I heard) into respective POSIX and/or Linux-specific calls. Meanwhile, ReactOS only just recently got support for USB keyboards and mice, if I'm reading their changelogs correctly.
I remember when you lot wanted the start button back but now you don't FP is a weird place
Maybe ppl learned how to use the new one?

Secondly, this new "system for idiots" is quite functional for people who aren't stupid as well Thirdly, how is Windows 7 different from Vista? Vista from XP? Much in the same way as how Windows 8 and 7 differ. calling other people "retard" for their choice of OS shows you're a moron unto yourself.

I don't want to use it full time. 40$ for an OS that I like the visual stylings of and I'm losing out? I'm a retard for that? Lol linux elitists. even if I use it as a hobby machine ya'll still try to shit on anyone who has a different opinion. also, linux wouldn't be worth it full time for me because I would lose support for a lot of my games.
