• The Great Lakes Are Reverting Back Into Glaciers, Ice Coverage Rising Dramatically
I've seen it get so cold that you could boil a pot of water, go out on the deck, toss it into the air and by the time it hit the ground it was frozen solid.
Friend here in NY spilled coffee and it froze on his coat.
Is that how they are trying to back track? Pretty funny.
The overall temperature of the earth is going to rise, from that perspective the term is perfectly fine. But then ill-informed people didn't know how the dropping temperatures in certain areas fit into that picture, stopped following the discussion right there and an effort was made to at least rename the phenomenon so this stuff doesn't happen to people merely superficially acquainted with the topic. Melting glaciers affect the water density of oceans and with it currents like for example the Gulf Stream that supplies Europe with warm water and warmer-than-it-should-be weather conditions. That's an example of how increasing temperature somewhere can decrease it elsewhere. The whole reason for why weather is so difficult to predict even with modern technology is because we've got a massively complicated, interconnected network of currents and streams and other factors that all affect each other. It's not like our Earth's just "warm in the middle, cold around the poles" and a global increase in temperature is just gonna add a few little degrees everywhere.
I don't care how terms are used and shit, just someone tell me weather I'll be able to turn on my A/C and go for a nice brisk walk.
God dammit, I just want it to become spring over here
I wish California could get some of that water.
Ontario here, cold as always.
stop being so narrowminded and US-centric. While you guys have been freezing to death, over here in the UK it has not even snowed, and to be quite honest it was a "mild" winter. Even in your own country CA is in a terrible drought global warming means GLOBAL, therefore you need to look at the ENTIRE WORLD situation think before you speak people
Global warming is stupid and not accurate, call it climate change.
I wish California could get some of that water.
Surprisingly, us Michiganders need that water just about as bad as you Californians do. Colorado reporting in; will be 70 degrees today. Then rain and snow tomorrow.
Not only is shit going down in Murrica, here in the Netherlands we have the #2 hottest winter since they started recording temperatures in 1780. It's almost shirt weather instead of balls freezing cold.
UK is meant to be warmer than greece at the moment.
