Indeed. It melted and basically encased his own remains (which were just bones at that point) inside, the only exposed part which could actually be recovered being his heel bone. The bone, along with the main capsule, is shown here inside of a coffin, however. Komarov's remains were melted down along with the capsule and placed inside the wall of the Kremlin, with his heel bone.
I can't find any other source saying just a heel bone was found. The website with that picture says:
Komarov's body was recovered from the smouldering ruins, but all that was left was an irregular lump 30 centimetres in diameter and 80 centimetres long. A true soviet hero. I hope he got that hero of soviet union medal because he basicly took the bullet for Yuri Gagarin. :smith:
If we ever colonise the moon Komarov should get a statue or a memorial on it.
If we ever colonise the moon Komarov should get a statue or a memorial on it.
Actually it's not too healthy to be chilling out on the moon because a lot more radiation from the sun is reflected on the moon's surface, or so i've been told. Anyway, all good things come at a price, sometimes a price of someones life, some are even willing to give their life for greater good. That's how things work around here. We should be proud.
