I would say headlines like this on polling day are an exception We're not even allowed to campaign within a certain amount of meters from polling stations and the national parties are not allowed to campaign either. Why are newspapers excluded from that considering most are just party mouthpieces?
Well, with everyone complaining about how "authoritarian" May and the tories are, it makes little sense for anyone on either side of the fence to start the "let's control what the press says" ball rolling Let the newspapers run whatever and let the people separate the wheat from the chaff.
The one thing I would appreciate is stronger correction laws, i.e. if your whole front page is based on a lie then you should have to post a whole front page correction, and similarly stories like should not be allowed.
...So wait, Labour aren't planning on banning children? fuck i need to change my vote to conservative

The day before, the day after, they can say whatever the fuck they want for all I care.

I'm actually not opposed to that but that pesky internet makes such a move pointless anyway, I could get all my shitty political libel from my local reddit echo chamber at any time
Can I ask if there's anyway of finding out current voting intentions in my constituency? Basically, I'm in a Tory safe seat, in 2015 lib dems did absolutely shite, but this year they've been canvasing more than any other party and doing quite well. Plus their MP is like a billion times better than the other two. So I don't know if I should vote Labour or Lib Dem even though Labour historically does better, Lib Dem have done well campaigning here this year and Labour is probably even less attractive to the moderately Convservatives of St Albans than usual.
Well there is a site than can help you figure out who to vote for if your end goal is simply to deny the Tories the seat in your area: https://www.tactical2017.com/
Newspapers are self regulating, but unlike the British TV industry which does the same, they regularly ignore these self imposed rules and obligations to publish misleading or outright false garbage; usually followed by an apology note smaller than an ants dick. With the increasingly evident monopoly on the press it's a stupid and outdated way of doing things. Ofcom works because its under the threat of having the government handle it instead. It seems that worry is unfounded judging by the way the press acts with impunity.
I think throwing Rupert Murdoch in a concrete lined pit filled with sewage, snakes and spiders would be a start.
I'd settle for him being blown sky fucking high on his stealth ship by a Royal Navy Frigate.
Can we pass tabloid regulation laws or something? Like an independent council that sets media publishing standards for this kind of shit? Newspapers are absolutely worthless and disgusting pieces of blatant propaganda.
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DBvv3-7XcAEWPI4.jpg[/t] "Vote Tory, urges newspaper owned by billionaire tax avoider"

It's telling me to vote Lib Dem. Daisy Cooper is kind of amazing in comparison to the other MPs. Sucks though because on some idealistic level I love Corbyn and everything he stands for. But I guess it's more pragmatic to vote tactically.
Couldn't this constitute infringing on freedom of the press?
This is the biggest issue with what I said. I'm not for censoring press, but they need to have some management. Your entire front-page (which is the only thing people see) saying a factually false statement shouldn't be allowed. Regulating font sizes for titles and so forth would be the main thing. But that wouldn't sell copes would it :^))))
...So wait, Labour aren't planning on banning children? fuck i need to change my vote to conservative
Only the rust subforum :v: I hope that this time tomorrow things aren't too shit.
snip - google exists
boys I'm gonna jump up and down with happiness and get pissed ta fuck if Labour pull a hung parliament or better. We can hope lads, get out tomorrow and vote, do what you can.
This made me smile. It's a fucking great idea. Ive not got much hope, and ive got even less money- but if we win I'm going to grab as much booze as I can reasonably afford and get absolutely fucking destroyed with anyone remotely politically aware in my friendship circle.
I've got a bottle of bubbly ready for the end of exams and the end of the country :v:
Can we pass tabloid regulation laws or something? Like an independent council that sets media publishing standards for this kind of shit? Newspapers are absolutely worthless and disgusting pieces of blatant propaganda.
There is a small segment of legislation called Section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act, which was passed in 2013 after the phone hacking scandal but has never actually been brought into force. Currently there is only one government-accredited self regulation body for the press, called Impress, but the big papers all use a different unapproved body called IPSO, and there is no incentive to sign up to qm accredited regulator. Section 40 would mean that if you don't use an accredited regulator, you have to pay the legal costs of anyone who sues you - essentially forcing the press to sign up to an accredited regulator. It's very controversial as to whether this Section should be brought into force, but IIRC the 2017 Conservative manifesto commits to repealing Section 40 entirely.

This is the most nervous I've been about an election, if Corbyn loses we. are. fuck-ed. I'm gonna be on the Rum through the night, hopefully the only thing that'll be rough on Friday is my fucking head.
Can confirm it does.
That last bit makes me so angry. Also we should set up a chat channel somewhere for tomorrow night.
My Facebook feed is full of people who just seem to think Corbyn has won it already, they're going to be in for a horrible shock on Friday. The fallout of this is going to be as bad as the EU referendum, maybe even worse. I remember it was just full of people insulting everyone who voted differently to them regardless of their reasoning. With the election and the recent terror events, I have seen arguments and have also occasionally seen people blocking other people because they didn't like their opinions. Politics brings out the best and worst in people.

I hadn't paid a lot of attention to UK Politics up until recently, and from everything I've read it seems like the UK Conservatives are like ours but somehow give even less of a shit about the poor. I'd like to pretend to be mystified at how the "fuck you, got mine" attitude became so pervasive, but it's pretty clear that the news media over there seem intent on having the lowest common denominator follow the lead of the business elite. Best of luck, cousins.

It's my Discord and I was meaning to post it here, you might as well have a permanent link, we used it for the US election and I spiced it up for this one as well https://discord.gg/ZVKFnaE
lads you realise there are left-wing papers showing their bias too? it's what papers do
This isn't bias, it's propaganda.
