• Katy Perry ties Michael Jackson for album hits

Topics like these make me imagine what it was like for music fans back when MJ was in his prime. I imagine there were just as many people talking about the "decline in music" then as there is now. Face it. It's like this for every generation. Years from now when you listen to the music your childen listen too, you'll probably think back about how talented people like Katy Perry were.
Just who the hell is Katy Perry? I'm being serious, I've never heard of her.
And here I thought you of all people would understand that MJ is no better than KAYP because no band is factually better or worse
While it indeed is all about opinions, one can argue that Michael Jackson is better than Katy Perry, especially in a situation like this where they are being compared.
Katy Perry makes silly music, but she's a popular artist and she's selling a lot. People want to listen to her. And her music isn't bad for what it is. Go figure. It's not about whether someone is stupid or not, it's about both taste and teen commercialism. There's plenty of teens that listen to indie music too, but Katy Perry is part of teen culture. The difference being that Katy Perry just doesn't have the skill and expertise other stars of teen culture had, like The Beatles (who had probably thousands of hours of practice before they even recorded a record, just from playing at Hamburg) or Michael Jackson.
I don't really understand why everyone hates her, I think she has a pretty good singing voice and catchy lyrics. Nothing wrong at all.

But because she's popular she has to be picked apart because obviously people have no taste and are idiots for liking what is popular if it's anything but superb.
why do people care if she has nice tits you can google big tits tits cant make music
tits cant make music
Now that's something I'd like to see, boobrock!
Now that's something I'd like to see, boobrock!
That's also something I'd like to see :J
She has nice songs, but honestly she cannot sing live very well.

Katy Perry is a pop star who performed for money. Michael Jackson was a pop star who performed for money. Who cares.
Just shows how the taste in music has changed. [sp]For the worst[/sp]
While I don't like the music that is common these days, I can't help but think that it's simply our tastes that haven't evolved.

What are you guys - a bunch of men in their late fifties? Your hate for anything that's modern is just totally out of hand. Take off your nostalgia goggles and start being members of the 21st century.
Nobody is hating, we just don't think she deserves to sell this many albums.
That's entirely up to the people who bought her albums to decide. That amount of people (well, a majority of them probably), likes her music and thus, buys the albums. If people in this thread likes different kind of music, then that's absolutely fine, but that doesn't mean Katy Perry shouldn't get to sell albums to all the people who like her music.
She gots man arms, man chest, and eyeballs that look like they're gonna pop out of her head.
to be fair that is a really bad photoshop also she's more attractive than any woman you've probably even talked to
Teenage Dream's a great song, and she has a really sexy voice if you ask me. Some of her songs are bad but if you listen to the good one's you'd be hard pressed to actually say she sounds bad singing.
It is MUCH easier to get as many hits this year than it was back then.
Nobody is hating, we just don't think she deserves to sell this many albums.
You don't think she "deserved" to sell that many albums? Who forced people to buy the albums?
And here I thought you of all people would understand that MJ is no better than KAYP because no band is factually better or worse
factually no, but i like michael jackson a lot more and he certainly had a bigger impact on music which i don't think anyone will really dispute. it's got nothing to do with nostalgia, there are singer-songwriters that in my opinion rival michael jackson today like bjork or joanna newsom who can easily write as good (or better?) songs.
People will remember Katy Perry for singing fun and catchy pop songs during the 2010's, at least in the current state her career is in. I highly doubt she'll fade into obscurity; just the fact that she's had so many album hits seems to suggest that.
Just shows how the taste in music has changed. [sp]For the worst[/sp]
The main reason why you think its gotten worse is because we only remember the good shit.

Katy Perry will never have this much talent.
to be fair that is a really bad photoshop also she's more attractive than any woman you've probably even talked to
ew what no she's married to russell brand instant turn off
elbows are too pointy
Elbows not pointy enough
It is MUCH easier to get as many hits this year than it was back then.
Yeah back then you had to be good at what you do. Now a music producer can pick it out any single person out of a crowd they want and make them a star.
