I think the bigger problem is that you're obscuring your view of the screen by putting your fingers on it.
The touch screen for games isn't that bad, you get used to it. I can play GBA games on my Itouch just fine.
The Iphone and Itouch are only worth it if you can jailbreak it though. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
