Why do they open themselves up to all the hate they know they are going to get?
Why do they open themselves up to all the hate they know they are going to get?
They want to make an impression that they care
I have no problem with Origin. It runs well, I have yet to have an issue, overall works well. Unlike Steam that is slow to open at times, rather sluggish overall, has useless shit I don't care about ( community ). I would love a thinned version of Steam.
Does anyone remember the browser before the major UI update? It made my computer cry.
Well at least steam performed decently before that. And the minigame list worked fine. Unlike now.
Steam has honestly just continued to get worse for me, and I could not be less of a fan of their broken "offline mode" that only works about 5% of the time I want it to. I'd be happy if Steam got some legitimate competition, I just wish it wasn't EA.
I'm okay with Origin. It's not perfect, because it's new. But it's decent enough. I get faster download rates and it uses less memory than Steam does idle. Plus I can just load Origin through steam and the overlay works on all the games. Any competition is good competition.
Although that is true, I DESPISE EA for breaking up their partnership with Valve and make games like BF3 and Mass Effect games after ME2 (among other games like NFS: The Run and so on) only available through Origin. Also, why the fuck do I have to repair my BF3 install every time I want to play? I also can't find an answer for this anywhere what the fuck. The nice thing about Steam is that only Valve games make Steam required to play. Origin only offers (to my knowledge) shit that EA is somehow involved with, and its basically a money grubbing contest when they make it ORIGIN EXCLUSIVE. Its especially a dick move when Origin is a buggy piece of garbage. Steam isn't perfect, but how many times better it is compared to Origin cannot be expressed numerically.
Remove the whole virus thingy that looks at my files and I will use this service.
i wish steam was a little faster
the only thing you're doing right is the logo. Releasing 2 highly anticipated games and force people to use your shitty beta version of steam to play them is beyond disgraceful. for shame, EA. for shame.
So....exactly the same way Valve did when Half Life 2 launched? Back then Steam was a godawful concept that barely worked. It only became what it is today because people had to use it, dealt with it and gave it time to improve. [editline]4th May 2012[/editline]
Remove the whole virus thingy that looks at my files and I will use this service.
That was discredited. Any "snooping" the program does is not reported the EA and does not actually impact the use of the application. The files it scans are in places such as AppData (no respectable application saves personal information there), and ProgramFiles/ProgramData (applications by design shouldn't save sensitive data there). It's harmless and seems to be there to check for games it supports that are installed from what I can gather. [editline]4th May 2012[/editline]
Do they really want feedback? 1. Who ever set the prices for these are on drugs. Why does Glamour Life Stuff (A near content-less shit heap of an expansion) cost twice as much as the best expansion for The Sims 2? 2. Why does Origin hang for half a minute when I resize its window? 3. The storefront shows no useful information such as sales and top sellers in addition to being buggy. 4. Storefront search is useless. When trying to find the prices for the items in point one, search came back with things like Army of Two, Battlefield and FIFA. I searched for 'The Sims 2' why are you returning with unrelated items? 5. Betas and Demos are permanently tied to your account. Its been how long since this beta ended and this is still here? Sure I have it set to be hidden, but why the hell is it still on my games list? 6. Registering legacy games is a clusterfuck. In order to register some games on Origin you have to go to one of three different locations. I. The Origin client. Most games don't register from here oddly enough. II. https://activate.ea.com/activategame.do III. https://activate.ea.com/applyentitlement.do I don't know how to even explain this shit. Crysis 1 is supposedly able to be registered from the second option but every time you try to it says that it can't be processed right now and that you should try later. (Don't bother it always says that) A few other select games work fine however, just not Crysis apparently. I would go on but as you can see my experience with Origin have been less than optimal. In conclusion, when Steam came out it was sort of pushing unknown territory at the time leading to unforeseen issues but that was in 2002. EA had 10 years to catch up in fact Origin as a code base has existed since 2005. Whats their excuse?
A few of these problems are actually kind of aggravating, such as 1. But here goes; 1: EA pricing has always been a bit off on their services. I can't work out who would think that's logical pricing, unless they are going by release date or something (I don't follow Sims expansions, so I don't know which of those is newest). 2: Fuck, that's a good question. Might be something to do with their rendering code for the application though. But I personally haven't that that happen in a while. Weird error though...report it as a bug, it might get fixed. 3: The EA storefronts have always sucked from memory. They should work on that really. 4: Yeah, EA really need to get a better team on their stores... 5: Origin recently introduced the ability to hide games you don't want showing up in your library easily. Just hide the Betas, so what if they are still tied to your account? It won't hurt you, just hide them. So this point is totally useless. 6: They should streamline this. But I've never had a problem registering legacy games directly through Origin (then again I don't have many legacy games to register :v:). You do have to remember, Origin as a whole hasn't existed since '05, only the download manager part of it has. Which is actually the one part that works consistently. The community and store functions are literally new and do need work.
I don't even care for offline mode, seeing as how I wont even go near the computer if it doesn't has internet.
Sometimes the power goes out on the island I live on (I know, what the fuck) and basically it's not a big deal if we have offline games - because we have a generator that can easily power a computer or two and games can easily waste hundreds of hours of time - but the more games I have on steam the more annoying it is. Plus there's tonnes of hours spent traveling where if I don't have video games I have to listen to shitty family music and stare out the window. Basically the only time offline mode works is when I accidentally click the button with my internet connected.
Dear EA, fuck off you suck and always have
Here's my feedback: Distribute your fucking games through steam, obliterate origin.
Like EA will even listen. Come on EA, you used to be great, what happened?
There's nothing wrong with Origin, it's just an inconvenience having to have an extra program just for their games (and most of you have BF3/ME3, I just have BF3)
The nice thing about Steam is that only Valve games make Steam required to play.
New Vegas lol. Any game that uses 'steamworks drm' requires steam.
Australians would beg to differ
ALL Aussie games cost a fortune. Not just Steam ones. Take it up with whoever arbitrarily decides aussies can pay twice what the rest of the world can for games.
And from what I saw was less of a resource hog compared to steam.
If Steam hogs enough resources to affect framerates you shouldn't be gaming on that computer in the first place. My computer hasn't even seen a windows update, let alone a hardware update, since Vista launched, and yet somehow Steam doesn't slow the games down at all. If my ancient-ass rig doesn't feel steam no gaming computer will feel it.
In my opinion refusing to buy a game you would otherwise buy simply because of the client you use to download it is a bit silly.
How else are you going to let your voice be known? If you buy it they'll just assume you're bandwagoneering and that you don't really mind. If you pirate it they use it as an excuse to tighten the restrictions. By not buying it you send the message that you refuse to pay for that sort of thing. It's why I won't buy an Ubisoft game(Fuck their DRM), and it's why I won't buy an Origin game(I don't want anything to do with Origin.). It's their loss, not mine.
In that case, Steam isn't a monopoly. They DON'T charge high prices.
Speak for yourself, I like steam, but them allowing 1 dollar = 1 euro bullshit turns me off it.
The only good thing I can say about Origin is that it's the best fucking thing ever when compared to the EA downloader or whatever the Hell that piece of shit was called.
Come on EA, you used to be great, what happened?

You wanna back that up with something? I did some quick looking around and I found no evidence of there being 2 "versions" of a monopoly.
Two versions, the dictionary definition and the board game. :v:
I'd rather give feedback on EA itself. Not that they would listen.
I'd like to think that they have a printing setup that automatically prints every single email they receive directly into a furnace.
Does anyone remember the browser before the major UI update? It made my computer cry.
Yeah true. Before the update it was faster to shut the game down, open a browser, look it up then boot the game back up again than it was to open it in the overlay. Currently the browser is pretty damn good though.
Not trying to defend Origin or EA here but seriously? You think a monopoly is a good thing? Competition is why Valve is able to offer you such nice deals. You think those will stick around if Steam is the only DD service?
Yes of course you're right, monopoly is never good, and that's exactly what's kind of going on here. EA only is selling their games on THEIR platform, forcing you to use it if you want to play games. But I don't want to have to use it. I want to be able to choose. And that's exactly what they're doing wrong.
My experience with Origin was a short, and bitter one. My friend offered to buy me BF3 because he was lonely. He found out they discontinued the gifting feature. I didn't get BF3. :c
ehh if i had the choice i'd avoid digital distribution
Origin is fucking horrid and so is EAs staff. I got told to end all my system processes by a live chat rep once.
Origin is fucking horrid and so is EAs staff. I got told to end all my system processes by a live chat rep once.
But if you do that your computer goes into "restarting in X"
Despite all the hate I hear for it, I've not had any problems with origin, although the only game I have there is BF3. Steam on the other hand is giving me tonnes of problems lately, from having to restart it to clear the "game is currently unavailable" thing to it being absurdly slow and unresponsive on even high end computers. Download speeds off origin are also generally a lot higher than steam.
I like origin because it allows me to play BF3 I hate origin because I require it to play BF3
Does anyone remember the browser before the major UI update? It made my computer cry.
Before the update, the browser was an IE window. Not in any way intended or optimized to be used embedded into a game like an overlay. Now they are using a real rendering engine, which they have the ability to optimize to work in an overlay.
