My school starts at 7:22 (first class bell, at least), however I'm in zero hour and we start at 6:35, and I get up at 5:00am. We get out at 2:16.
My school goes from like 7 to 2. I've been waking up at like 6:20 for the past couple of years.
My school starts between the times of 8:00 to 12:50 depending on the day, its like having your own mini weekends.
First class starts 8:50 for me, and ends depending on whether we got a class after 15:20, the time class ends for everybody except IB students. We always have 4 lessons per day, at least I do. Depends on what courses you take. First lesson, 30 minute break, second and third lesson, lunch and last lesson. Problem is, I have a class at 15:25 on Thursday and Friday, which lasts to 16:40. I also have no lesson on the 4th block. So I have to stay and wait at school just for 1 lesson, the lesson itself being a big waste of time.
start at 8:55 (actually more like 10 minutes or so earlier because of shitty registration time), end at 3:05 or +-15 earlier i wish i could get more sleep, i'm a night owl
tbh, I'm more interested in what the secondary effects will be. I'm wondering if I'll be stuck in longer rush hour traffic, whether I'll be able to watch cartoons after work again as kids leave school later and if this means that street lights will be turned back on (during winter) so kids can walk home safely.
this is gonna fuck them up later in life when they have 8am starts. well done oX university.
1 Hour more? in spain we start at 8 AM!
When I studied at highschool I had to get up at 5:30 AM.
This just seems like it'll cause problems for a lot of parents who start work at 9am.
My school schedule varies depending on the day. Even though school always begins at 8 AM on Mondays it ends on 4:15 PM, while on Fridays it ends on 12:35 AM. As for the 10 AM start, I personally am fully refreshed after sleep if I wake up somewhere at 8 AM, so that gives you a lot of time to get some sleep and check if you forgot to do any homework. Definitely some students will wake up early so that they can play games before school though.
Wait. It's 8:50am now? When I used to go to school it was 7am. When did that change?
you must have been in one shitty school. My school always did and always has started at 8:50. (This as like 10 years ago) Opens at 8:30 for some club thing but yeah.
Make it army times, 6AM every morning. With added drill sergeant who bangs on a pot to wake you up.
in middle school and early high school my dad would barge into my room and make trumpet sounds. :v:
When I was in school we started at 9:30 and finished at 3:30 because nobody lived near the school and transport was arranged for almost all students. So different being in college when it comes to times. Mon - 9am - 5pm Tues - 9am - 12:30am Wed - 9am - 3:30pm Rest of week for studying and working from home.
For year 11 and 12 at where I was, it was 7:30 - 2:45 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. We had Wednesdays off!
High school in the UK starts at age 11-12 by the way.
This just seems like it'll cause problems for a lot of parents who start work at 9am.
teenagers can get to school for free via public transport.
Schools in Hungary start at 7:45... That's the bell for the first class, so you have to get there by 7:30 or so. Sometimes teachers asks us to come in early which means at 7:00
My school used to start classes at 9 and finish at 3, It was actually pretty ballin' if you had a double-period first, you could take it easy as the work didn't really take two hours to finish, unless it was double PE. Fuck double-PE.
Goddamnit why couldn't this have been implemented when I still went to school?!
Sounds shitty, in my opinion. Here, school starts at 8:30, so I would be free a hour and a half earlier. But, I'm an early bird, so can't say that for everybody. Even on weekends I still wake up at 5 and learn whatever I'm learning in the early hours. If I accidentally wake up at 7 or later, I feel super tired all day.
I'm not an early bird and I noticed my performance in my afternoon classes was universally better than my morning ones during high school. As a general rule teenagers just do not function before lunchtime and having them in class at 7:45AM is a waste of time.
Seems stupid. Most entry level jobs will be 9-5. Better to prepare people at a younger age for it. I know it sucks to get up early, but it helps in the long run.
It's not like you need to "prepare" during your whole childhood for being on time at your job. I've had a garbage sleeping schedule for the past two years but now that I got a full-time job I'm so tired when I come back from work that it's actually easier for me to have a good sleeping schedule.
i'd want that but not enough to want to be associated with my highschool again
Jeez, it was plain old 9am-3pm for me, both primary and highschool. I knew schools had the choice to start at different times, but not as much as everyone has said so far.
Hopefully it'll solve more problems than it'll cause. Extra sleep time's important for everyone, especially kids since younger people need to sleep longer to recharge. Hell I remember when I needed 10 hours, whereas nowadays I only really need 8 or 9. Also, Britain is probably too cold to justify having the siesta as a cultural staple, plus schoolkids would probably see "naptime" as an uncool baby thing, though I imagine it'd probably help anyways.
don't get what the whinging is about - it's not hard to get into a cycle of waking up early
Missing the point. It's to see if the extra hour in bed will mean better concentration.
with 10 am, children can stay up til midnight, and still get their 8 hours of sleep.
But what about all the porn they will see after midnight on tv? Have you ever thought of their innocent minds? You want them to be corrupted?
This isnt too bad, similar times to college My school day was 8:40 to 3:15, now im at college, we start most days at 9:30 (with the exception for thursday which I start at 10:15)
*sigh* Lucky bastards...
