10%? Holy shit so much! You must be starving! Americans.
'Generalizing and national dick waving just makes you look like an ass.' - Confucius
a mixed economy has nothing to do with capitalism vs. socialism. it has to do with free market vs central planning.
I was under the impression that's what socialism is.
10%? Holy shit so much! You must be starving! Americans.
I get about 100 bucks taken out of my paycheck each week because of taxes. It makes a fucking impact
I was under the impression that's what socialism is.
nope. there is a thing called "free market socialism".
You ever hear of this thing called a "mixed economy"?
Socialism: Privates CAN'T own the means of production. Capitalism: Privates CAN own the means of production. Thefore, or it is Capitalism, or it is Socialism. 99% the world is capitalist. USA and Sweden are capitalist.
those aren't socialist public services. socialism is economic. you can't be both capitalist and socialist, you can be one or the other.
The Nordic model is very much a mixed economy.
Socialism: Privates CAN'T own the means of production. Capitalism: Privates CAN own the means of production. Thefore, or it is Capitalism, or it is Socialism. 99% the world is capitalist. USA and Sweden are capitalist.
The world doesn't work in absolutes.
what is socialism, to you?
Common ownership of the factors of production.
Socialism: Privates CAN'T own the means of production. Capitalism: Privates CAN own the means of production. I don't see utilities in America owned privately.
nope. there is a thing called "free market socialism".
And there's a thing called liberal socialism. Which is also socialism. And perfectly unifiable with, and more or less tailored for, capitalistic economies.
nope. there is a thing called "free market socialism".
Then please, explain your definition.
10%? Holy shit so much! You must be starving! Americans.
First off, you're an idiot. Second off, we loose about 20-30% of our paychecks to taxes, I don't know what he's talking about with 5-10, federal income is anywhere from 20% up until you file your taxes and maybe get a tax return. We also have this thing called a stupidly low minimum wage, which companies tend to love giving the closest amount to as possible for a job. A minimum wage worker here earns about $930 a month if they work 40 hours, and that's pretty hard to live off if you have anything more than just your self and a very cheap and shit dwelling.
I don't see utilities in America owned privately.
But you see other things owned privately.

Because you pay no fucking taxes..
But you see other things owned privately.
You're ignoring my point.
Then please, explain your definition.
where the means of production are held in common, as sobotnik said. in communism, a workplace would be owned by the community and managed by the workers. in a market socialist system, the factory would be owned by the workers and the workers would be completely free to profit off the goods produced at the factory.
Any why do you think you have such a shitty minimum wage? Because you pay no fucking taxes..
Are you sure you know how employment and the basics of economics work?

a mixed economy decides how prices are determined. a free market has prices determined solely by supply/demand. a central economy has prices determined by government planners. a mixed economy has a mix of the two.
that we have the ability to adequately feed, house, and provide healthcare to everyone yet do not feels absolutely wrong to me
Are you sure you know how employment and the basics of economics work?
Not at all I just like to call Americans out on complaining about taxes.
You're ignoring my point.
Which is? You are right, Im not getting it.
"Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy.
Not at all I just like to call Americans out on complaining about taxes.
You apparently don't know how much it effects people
yea but nowhere in the "developed world" is there a "combination of these". it's a mix of private and state ownership, which means it is not socialist.
Do you only deal in absolutes? Are you an actual, real-life Sith lord?
Which is? You are right, Im not getting it.
This:
The world doesn't work in absolutes.

yea but nowhere in the "developed world" is there a "combination of these". it's a mix of private and state ownership, which means it is not socialist.
Socialist organisations exist outwith the state. A government can choose to nationalize an industry, which could be an example of socialism (if you had trade onions running it and stuff).
You apparently don't know how much it effects people
I don't care how much it affects people. It's your democratically chosen government, and you're not paying a lot of taxes, stop complaining.
Not at all I just like to call Americans out on complaining about taxes.
So essentially needless shitflinging for the sake of argument. How pedestrian and asinine.
yea but nowhere in the "developed world" is there a "combination of these". it's a mix of private and state ownership, which means it is not socialist.
So if you have a country where literally every single business in that nation is owned by works or the state save one little Mom & Pop Shop, then it cannot possibly be considered socialist one bit?
Not at all I just like to call Americans out on complaining about taxes.
Only a bloody Dutchman.
