Not to mention that all the PC players of HL1 (Steam Version), Blue Shift, Opposing Force, CS, CS:S, CS:CZ, HL2, HL2:EP1, HL2:EP2, Portal, Portal 2, TF, TF2, HL2: Deathmatch, and all the other games are going to be really pissed.
I'm divided on this.
Competition is good, but having to download and use multiple programs for multiple games would be really fucking annoying.

They really don't get how to manage their space. Then again, I guess they can't afford to keep their site clear of advertisements, so they probably have no choice. The space bordered by blue lines should take the most space on the site, you know the games they're trying to sell and promote.
Looks like as much ad usage as Gamespot. not a big deal.
They don't make their own games, sell the same games that are on Steam, and are competing against Valve (the company that really dominates PC gaming both as a platform service and with games like Portal, Left 4 Dead, and the Half-Life series), and they still have the audacity to say that they can overtake steam?
I haven't laughed this hard in a while
I don't know about you, but I don't necessarily like having multiple platforms on my computer. Instead of running steam and going through my Library of games, I'd have to start up an entirely different program for possibly one other game? That's stupid, and is the same reason I deleted the EA Download manager bullshit right after I installed it. I like having ONE, neat and tidy program managing my shit. For PC gaming, I basically only use steam, unless something is released that isn't on the Steam store (in which case I just link the .exe to steam anyway).
you don't need to even have the client installed to run a game downloaded through Impulse.
or GoG
or GamersGate
ok gamersgate good for you you aren't afraid of steam
I really liked reading this interview after reading this http://gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=15556
ok gamersgate good for you you aren't afraid of steam
why are you acting like he said this out of the blue
it's an interview
gamersgate has better sales
because they're competing with steam
Another good thing about GG is that you aren't confined to using a service to play like Steam. Their games work the same way as games from a disk and there's no offline mode bullshit you have to worry about and mods and patches work like normal.
My major complaint for Steam is that many trainers and some mods don't work with certain games. Also you don't have the choice to install a game on a different hard drive with Steam because it's all in the Steam folder. I have almost an entire hard drive devoted to Steam so once it fills up I would love to be able to install games to a different hard drive but I can't.
But nonetheless I get the majority of my games from Steam. The deals are too good.
Also, I knew I heard GamersGate before. Back in 2009, most of the DD services were having a big dick waving contest.
Original Story
Follow-Up Story
Stardock guestimated that Steam had 70% of the the PC download market and it had 10% of the market, and the last 20% was split up between the rest (D2D, GamersGate, GoG, Etc).
GamersGate got all offended, and then proceeded to insult Stardock stating that, "...we know for sure that Impulse is never up for discussion as being one of the biggest (sales numbers)". GamersGate then stated that in many, many cases they sell as many units as Steam for the mid-size segment of titles. And when it comes to AAA titles, they said that Steam usually sells around 25-50% more then they do.
D2D then said that Stardock was just spreading misinformation, and that D2D was a top performer.
However, you'll notice that no one contested the fact that Steam is clearly the leader, and they're all bickering over who is second to the king.

Yeah, Gamespot isn't really in the market of selling PC games. Then consider the fact that one of it's reviewers got fired since he gave a negative review on a game that was being heavily advertised on the site doesn't really sounds like a site I'd like to be compared too
If Gamespot could, I'm sure they would love to design the site so that 90% of the space was advertising.
People dislike Steam?
I'd consider it one of the upsides of PC gaming.
I enjoy gamersgate well enough. Sometimes they get smaller titles that the other places don't pick up, or get titles a few days before steam does.
If nothing else, everyone should appreciate that they do provide (minor) competition for steam. That competition helps to keep steam in check. If steam ever decides to be a total dick, it is quite easy to just hop to D2D or Gamersgate with minimal loss of available titles.

It is. They just call the stuff in the middle "reviews". :P

It's probably because they have an internet connection from before dinosaurs existed or they were dumb enough to download one of those programs that are said to give you Steam games.
People dislike Steam?

Yeah I dislike steam because of ripoff prices for europe and australia.
I just checked the gamersgate site and, well, what a giant misshapen clusterfuck of needless ads and HOLY SHIT LOOK AT ALL THIS PREORDER RUBBISH
I just checked the gamersgate site and, well, what a giant misshapen clusterfuck of needless ads and HOLY SHIT LOOK AT ALL THIS PREORDER RUBBISH
Not in your face in a humongous ad that covers the entire background of the fucking page.
Holy shit they have XIII on there?
I wonder if they have Black and White...

i just thought it's a bit of a curious thing to say
How are they going to compete with valve without selling virtual hats?
oh no an image in the background

Alright buddy, that does it.
Put up your dukes, queen's rules.
One thing these kinds of services never get right is the website. Compare the GamersGate website to the Steam website-
http://www.gamersgate.com/
http://store.steampowered.com/
The GamersGate site is a clusterfuck, seriously what is half this shit they're throwing at me? The Steam site keeps a very clean and organized look. Nothing is really crowded or mashed together. GamersGate on the other hand just has too much stuff. It looks crammed and just isn't very aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Steam also loads quicker.
I like when stores sell games that you can activate on steam but not for the fucked up steam prices (e.g. $ instead of €)
Only buy games on sale from steam
Eve beats Wow easy.

I like it spicey and fresh with gun sounds that actually mean something.

Gamersgate isn't afraid of Steam ?
Isn't Gamersgate the same company that bitched about Steam taking over the digital distribution market ?
because they're competing with steam
that's why competition is good
I can make you afraid.
