I can't see myself ever using something named as stupidly as GamersGate is. To me it's saying (in a Keanu Reeves from Bill and Ted's voice.) "Whoa, I'm like, totally cool and appealing to young people and like, those inclined to play video games."
Didn't WeGame challenge Steam awhile ago? How are they doing?
just a bunch of crap FTP games. Man I just don't trust these non-steam digital distributors, I always think "what happens when they finally die just because they can't compete?" Steam doesn't have that problem because...it'll always be top, or definitely up there
Yet you use the gas phase of water.
At least the name is clever. The parent company is Valve, and what do valves let off in some cases? Steam. The name GamersGate just screams 'we're trying too hard' to me.
I just don't let dumb names influence what I use which is why I use Facepunch despite its name that means nothing.
Why it means a great deal, what could be more meaningful that a punch directed at someone's face? Surely, it is a name of grand proportions.
steam will eventually die like everything and something better will take his place nokie - iphone - android don't think of it as bad, whatever replaces steam will have to be damn good
But none of those things are replacement's of the others, they just sit side by side (as do steam and the other DD services).
Yeah I dislike steam because of ripoff prices for europe and australia.
It can be bad when the prices are in euros (and maybe in AUD but I know nothing of the prices of games in Australia so I cant really comment) but in the UK with the prices in pounds the prices for most games are pretty close to what they cost in a store (Well, Amazon. No store in the UK sells PC games anymore).
People dislike Steam? I'd consider it one of the upsides of PC gaming.
When I read about people disliking Steam I think they are mad. I usually then talk to people I know about it and they share the same opinion. But I realized something eventually, the people who are complaining about steam are people who are using it (or being forced to) for games they are buying now, not people (like the majority of this forum) who have used it for years and have gotten used to it. Personally for me the thing that makes me like steam over the alternative options is partly its ease of use (Every game I own on it in one simple place right in front of me to install when I want with no hoops to jump through, what more could I want?) and the steam community stuff. I run a lot of non steam games through steam now because I use the community features of steam so much. Valve keep brining new features to steam which are clearly designed with gamers in mind, not just trying to sell more games.
steam will eventually die like everything and something better will take his place nokie - iphone - android don't think of it as bad, whatever replaces steam will have to be damn good
Nawww. Its going to be so shitty, that'll catch on! Everyone enjoys a distribution platform to crash, be slow, or just flat out, not fucking work. Thats what I look for in all my software, especially when I have that itch to remove something useful, and replace it with something useless. Also, I don't know what the fuck is a Nokie. And how does that go in the lines of iPhone and Android? If you're referring to Nokia (Different vowel, so I can be wrong!) had SymbianOS. Which was the mainstream application for the beginning stages of Cellphone use. Its also been around for ages too. If you want to get on those terms, it was SymbianOS & BlackBerryOS that were before iOS. iOS still reigns "dominate". But with the ways things are going, I think android is really taking a hold. But yes, you were right about everything not lasting forever. Something will replace everything somewhere down the road. Competition may be a bitch, but its the savor to the consumer.
Didn't WeGame challenge Steam awhile ago? How are they doing?
yeah i remember that, what did happen to WeGame?
At least the name is clever. The parent company is Valve, and what do valves let off in some cases? Steam. The name GamersGate just screams 'we're trying too hard' to me.
i'm not going to buy from a company because their name is dumb!!!11!!!11
FYI GamersGate is owned by Paradox, who also make their own games. And I use GamersGate for Paradox Games but I very highly doubt they'll come close to Steam.
Paradox made the Hearts of Iron series, fucking awesome. Gamersgate seems alright though I am loyal to Steam though.
What the fuck?! GamersGate, the service most of us had no idea about, actually claims to be the leading digital distribution platform for PC and Mac. I shit you not, look. I don't know what fucking fantasy world they're living in, but they've got some fucking nerve to claim that. Yeah guys, keep on "redefining" the industry with your absolutely mind blowing in-game chat functionality.
This is Hilarious.
Meanwhile Valve is all like........
Steam is such a monopoly it's not even funny.
Competition is always good, stop riding Valves dick.
Competition is good, but GamersGate is deluding themselves, wait what did they say? Leading distributor in gaming? That is true, if Steam didn't exist(it would probably be true, but Steam exists). Oh, and Steam already features in game chat, you know, chatting with someone who is playing Plants vs Zombies while you are playing Left4Dead 2, and you can probably use voice chat. They are not scared, and they don't have MW2/Blops, thats good. But this is Steam that they are talking about. Besides, there are others, like GoG, D2D, and unfortunately, GFWL and EADM.
Steam: Around 3200 Games GamersGate: Around 2300 Games Steam > GamersGate
I don't see myself switching services, what I do see however is me using more services like steam because I don't want to lose access to my games so I would just go through all the similar services like steam and just hunt for bargains and use it most likely in the same way. Nothing ground breaking.
what the fuck is gamersgate? who ever they are they can fuck off Steam > gamersgate
If properly maintained, Steam could have the potential to run for an eternity of gaming. Its not a monopoly situation, there are other alternatives, but none provide the quality that Steam does, so they don't get the same usage. Steam combines just about everything a gamer could want. It distributes games, it seamlessly updates them, it provides a communication platform, and even a social network, and they are testing for screenshots straight through Steam. And no doubt, within six months, you will see a video uploading service, and the screenshot service expanded to include out of game uploads, so users can upload their own photos. You'll probably see a more effective version of the Community released in the next year that allows more features like available on FaceBook and I garuntee Steam will eventually provide a file hosting service. Steam provides so many features quite easily. For a service to knock Steam out, it would have to provide everything Steam has now and more, including all the games and publishers, and have an incredibly strong fanbase right out of the gate. In all likelihood, Steam will not die. In fact, its quite likely it'll outlast Valve as an independent service.
That was such a beautiful read, mainly because it is true, thank you sir.
Competition is always good, stop riding Valves dick.
Competition is good, making baseless claims less so, especially when it's apparently obvious you're lying.
I'd rather use neither, I'm not a fan of DRM.
Wow, gamersgate's logic is that because they saw an increase in sales at holiday seasons time, they will consistently see that increase and overtake steam? Do they even know the implications of a HOLIDAY SEASON? It's all downhill from there.
gamersgate has better sales
50 dollar THQ pack. Steam did it first.
With GamersGate seeing recent Christmas holiday sales up 72 percent, he believes it has the momentum to eventually overtake Steam.
So how much has Valves sales increased.
So how much has Valves sales increased.
350%
Horrible web layout and ads everywhere. what, how do they think they can win with this mediocre design?
