GamersGate is cool, but personally my order of preference goes
Impulse > Steam > Retail > GamersGate.

Did you just compare two EXTREMELY different games with different game genres?
That's like comparing tetris and my little pony
Another good thing about GG is that you aren't confined to using a service to play like Steam. Their games work the same way as games from a disk and there's no offline mode bullshit you have to worry about and mods and patches work like normal.
Which also means less multiplayer features.
hahahah man why is it that every other digital distributor other than steam just seems butthurt.
I never used any other platform for games else then Steam, so far i can't complain (cloud save games, automatic updates, download your games everywhere, chat services etc).
If you want to be less affected by currency Steam uses: have a friend in England buy you the game, and pay him back over paypal/ whatever you see fit.
They have 5,000 followers on Facebook, let's look at steam.
Steam: 500,732 People Like This

Some guy had a press account on GamersGame, so that means all games are for free. He was nice enough to share the login information with me, but I forgot what it was.
What is GamersGate?
This is why no one gives a shit about GamersGate, it's impossible to give a shit about something you don't know exists.

Why would you compare a spreadsheet simulator to World of Warcraft?
GamersGate is great if you ask me. Only bought one game though but I like how you just download the game and nothing else. No clients that require logins or anything.
Well good, because Steam definitely isn't afraid of you.
Fuck it
Steam is awesome.
I wish Steam became something bigger, like an operating system but not quite.
I mean, when I'm playing, and I press the Shift+Tab combination, the Steam "desktop" opens up while the game is left on the background.
I would like this for Windows too; You play a game, you hit the Windows button, desktop appears and game is left on the background blurred
If only Valve (and Steam) could work together with some operating system to make it all nice and shiny.
Bad idea. I do not want my OS to be bloated even more
Hmmm, a SteamOS on a gaming centric computer system (such as that Razor SwitchBlade) might actually be quite good, once they have more features in place (such as photo and video uploading, and a more developed community/social networking system such as Zeddy posted). Add some basic office tools, ability to link to an Windows Live/Skype etc. account and it could be awesome
Ah, to dream...

No, it would be terrible. It would split the community even more. We got 2 dominant oses, we don't need a third gaming one, really, we don't.
First it runs only on switchblade, then it runs on pc, then steam runs only on steam os and whatnot.
I'd rather them not make this abomination.

Why on earth would you think Valve would make Steam only run on one OS? You think they would want to split their potential market? I think if they did go the OS route they'd simply offer it as an alternative, Valve's cool like that
They really should be afraid of Steam.
They really should be afraid of Steam.
They should be shitting their pants and yellowing their under-trousers.
Compitition....it'd actually be scare if all the competing services combined together to take on Steam :v:
valve fanboys GO
man steam is dead all hail the new king

The only other DD site I use besides Steam is GoG which is pretty great.

They really don't get how to manage their space. Then again, I guess they can't afford to keep their site clear of advertisements, so they probably have no choice. The space bordered by blue lines should take the most space on the site, you know the games they're trying to sell and promote.
Steam has had the same ads before. I remember a Kane & Lynch 2 one.
I'd love Steam if it would let me play the fucking games I paid for if I my internet goes out.
I use Gamersgate once, in 2008 or 2007. It was only because the game I was trying to buy wasn't sold in stores anymore, and I hadn't heard of Steam yet.
Never again.
Sometimes I cant afford my internet bill so I have to turn it off for a month or two at a time and it sucks not being able to play garys mod or company of hero's offline because steam requires me to be online. Even if I'm playing single player.
I can't purchase shit.
Never heard of that one, i know Impulse, GoG, D2D but it's the first time i hear about GamersGate.
they do sound quite cocky for something most people never heard about.
What the hell are people talking about? Offline mode works perfectly fine for me and I can play any game offline with ease.
I can see why people could possibly dislike Steam, but for most the benefits out way the drawbacks.
Drawbacks:
Must have Steam installed.
Must start game trough steam
Benefits:
Save games are stored online.
1 click game downloading + installing. (No entering serial keys or clicking 10 x next without really reading what it says.)
Auto patching.
Sales.
Community
No sane person can complain about steam.
