My opinion would be no different than if the White House or Westminster or the fucking Vatican did it.
The point is, all this does is turn people further against them. They need to pick a better method.
What's a better method? Why can't they use santa? Santas already been used as an advertising and a political tool millions of times so I don't get the problem with using him.
greenpeace does not support ecological destruction, therefore they are in favor of ecological destruction
I'm sorry, let's try this a different way.
"We need to stop global warming, but the only way we're allowed to do it is by regressing! What's that, you found a different way? No, fuck that!"

greenpeace isn't concerned solely with global warming, they are concerned with the ecology of the planet in general.

And if gun rights advocates were using Santa to manipulate impressionable children from a young age to be pro-gun before they'd grown up enough to do their own research and form their own opinion would you think that was OK? Because that's what Greenpeace is doing here, except with global warming.

Upsetting people rather than informing them is a bad way to get your message across.
Everyone hating on greenpeace.
You do understand that global warming is one of the largest threats we collectively face as a species, right?

The difference is that there is a debate to be had between if guns are good or bad.
Global warmig is bad, the debte is over.
No, he lives somewhere in Nunavut, why else would people write letters to

Every year?
Seriously, if you write a letter to Santa with that address and postal code from anywhere in the world, Canada Post will send you back a letter from "Santa."
i don't know where Santa lives but Joulupukki's residence is in Lapland

Yeah. And Greenpeace is doing a real bang-up job of informing people.
why are we throwing "global warming" around? isn't "climate change" the more appropriate term? or is it just less catchy and/or evil/ominous/menacing?
Greenpeace have done some pretty neat things, but they need to fire their writing staff - they don't do anything except spread shit.

I think a legitimate argument could be made for humanity simply needing the water that would result from the icecaps melting.
Upsetting people rather than informing them is a bad way to get your message across.
maybe people should be upset that governments and companies are basically destroying the planet.
I think a legitimate argument could be made for humanity simply needing the water that would result from the icecaps melting.
Except we need drinkable water, not just any old salt-laden, fishcrap-saturated brine.
maybe people should be upset that governments and companies are basically destroying the planet.
Yeah. But saying they should be isn't going to make it so.
You want them to get mad at the government, not you. Greenpeace is doing the exact opposite of what it should.

Are you trying to imply that the most brilliant species to ever walk the earth can't find a way to harness the water of the ice caps properly? Honestly, I don't know why we don't just go get big chunks of ice and take it to the research station in Canada or whatever and melt it right now, and then ship it to the Middle East. I read this touching story earlier today about a Saudi man in New York who asked his cab driver to let him out in the middle of the street because it was raining, and he hadn't seen rain in twenty years.
global warming is dumb
Um
wow
I would never expect someone who is anti-government to say this because how government is oil ect ect
Yeah. But saying they should be isn't going to make it so.

maybe for you.

There's enough water in the oceans for that purpose as-is. We don't need an ecological disaster to increase that already ridiculously vast amount.

I don't actually think melting the ice caps is a good idea.
global warming is dumb
Yawmwen is dumb.
you guys are acting like greenpeace is the grinch when they're just trying to help kids become environmentally aware. it's not like you can go up to a kid and start preaching about climate science and greenhouse gases and expect them to care/understand, so you use a simple medium to give them the gist of it.

This is a terrible way to do that.
This is a terrible way to do that.
how?
[editline]11th December 2013[/editline]
do you have an idea for an alternative?

the kids are sent to school and learn about it? I know that's a fairly radical proposition, but bear with me

How about we don't treat little kids like they're capable of fully understanding the implications of global warming? I'm all for education, but it should come at an age when they can actually understand this kinda thing. Y'know - like the kinda age where they know the whole Santa thing is bullshit.
how?

Actual education over sensationalism.
global warming is dumb
It's a relevant issue, but most of the awareness being promoted for it is extremely lazy.
Also it's terrible because it's using Santa and the prospect of not getting gifts to make children feel bad. It's not like the age of children that still believe in Santa are old enough to understand how climate works anyways. It's on par with PETA telling kids their mommy kills animals.
Teach climate science when children are old enough to understand it.
[editline]10th December 2013[/editline]
Next it'll be the Easter bunny's not leaving eggs because of habitat destruction.
Well obviously this means everyone has been wrong, and Santa actually lives in the south pole.

greenpeace isn't in charge of the educational system.
Greenpeace doesn't seem to be acknowledging the recent Arctic front in the US.
