Wow... Talk about overreacting lmao.
If you had an inkling of understanding as to how bad a completely red government will be for us LGBT folks you would not be saying that.
People grossly overestimate the amount of power the president actually has.
People grossly fail to mention the fact that the Presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court are all controlled by the Republican party.
He said that federal gay marriage being overturned was a part of the trump pence platform, nothing about camps... As for the specifics of how hard that is, I don't know, but with republican control of the house and Senate, plus a new supreme court nominee, well... It's probably not as hard as you'd make it out to be.
People take their rights for granted. They shouldn't. Any new attempts to guarantee social rights are derided as socialism - but nobody notices that the state owns their trash collection, roads, libraries, schools, police, unemployment benefits, food stamps, social security, and the list goes on. That's all taken for granted, even though it's a state-owned-and-operated social good. Regulations are taken for granted, too. Minimum wage, the ban on child labor, anti-trust acts, governmental breakup of monopolies, overtime pay, deposit insurance, etc. People who don't realize how easily things like this can be taken away are going to be in for a major surprise over the next four years. Healthcare could've been another socialized good, like it is in most other developed countries - instead, we have to rely on private insurance. Before the Civil War, there were no socialized fire stations. Private fire-fighting companies would charge you to put a badge near your house. If it caught on fire, they'd fight it - but only if you bought their insurance ahead of time. Volunteers made up most, but private ones existed. That's a public good that people take 100% for granted nowadays. Don't do it. Things can change rapidly and those social rights you thought were guaranteed can disappear.
you don't get to talk, this is not your country I'm getting real fuckin sick of all these non-Americans going "come on Trump ain't so bad right?" You Europeans make fun of us constantly for being retards over EVERYTHING even when it was never justified or you guys had 0 room to actually make comment and the one moment out of all that we're at our most retarded you try and act like we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot. You don't know jack and you don't have the room to speak.
Whoa now, he didn't say anything like that, chill.
So, Non-American here. How screwed are LGBT people in America?
What Trump and a Republican Congress looks like for LGBT rights: Work to strike down federal recognition, possibly up to and including signing a bill pushed by Congressional Republicans (who look like they are going to control both houses as well as the Presidency) to rescind federal benefits for couples married in states that have gay marriage. Trump himself believes it's a states right. Gay people aren't going to be herded into camps and ghettoes but there is nothing really in place to stop civil rights advances made in the past 20 years from being drawn back if the election looks to be going the way it is.
Wow... Right when Trump started his speech, the first snow began to fall outside my window. Winter is finally here! I try to assure myself that I won't be affected much by this but I just feel so sorry for the american LGBT community (I'm bi and I have a boyfriend) and muslims who are very likely to have their rights taken away. Not to mention the people who will literally DIE because they won't be able to afford whatever treatment they need to survive. Oh yeah, I guess we can kiss our environment good bye as well... Just read Totalbiscuit's take on this whole thing. It's a sad day for a lot of people. https://www.twitch.tv/totalbiscuit/p/126163861478676654
I hope users on here who voted for Trump will at least read this line:
I'd like to tell you that it's going to be ok. I'd like to tell you that we'll get through this and come together, begin to heal the wounds opened in the last few months. If I did though, I'd be a liar. I don't believe that, not for a second. The wounds opened in the fabric of this country may never fully heal. If we don't bleed to death from them they will leave giant, ugly scars that will endure for the rest of its days. I don't have the right to vote in this country, despite having had to earn my place here, fight for my right to live with my family in this state. I wasn't lucky enough to simply be born a citizen, so I don't get to have my say. Others have decided for me. They have decided to elect a man who will repeal the one piece of legislation that is keeping my health insurance company from dropping my coverage. America has chosen to put my life at risk, more-so than it already is. America, may have condemned me to death.
...and realize that their vote actually had a real life impact on someone else. But, hey, at least we'll have a big nice wall keeping the Mexicans out!
So, Non-American here. How screwed are LGBT people in America?
Pence is pro conversion therapy. Getting office as Vice President won't stop him from pursuing it, only give him more ammo. https://www.reddit.com/r/Indiana/comments/4u6qfr/why_is_mike_pence_disliked_in_indiana/d5ng4e0/?context=3 Also, Trump will probably repeal gay marriage. E: Shit, link is completely unrelated. All the more evidence I need to go to bed...
Okay, now I want you to sit down for a moment, and think about what it would feel like if that screaming woman in the video ended up the United states president. I think that approximates how many in this thread feel right now about trump.
Hey. You wanna another trump. Keep calling any one who doesnt agree with you a bigot, a depolarable, a unkind person. Keep enabling the crazies on the left who doxx people, who threaten to hurt people. who troll people into suicide attempts over a cartoon network show. Yeah we get it. You wanna use minorities and vulnerable people as your shield in your bid for power and money. We get it you just want that power so you can get off beating up folks who are not one of you. Might just turn on those minorities once you get to the top. Who knows? Then call them racists on top it. The irony. My advice clean up the act. Cause it makes more enemies then allies. Allies is how you win. Making enemies is how you lose. Dont turn into the Left version of the satanic panic. The witch hunting didnt end well for the gop and it wont end well for the left for pulling the same crap.
I think wanting to move to a better country because America is going to go to hell isn't overreacting. You do realise it only gets worse from here, right? It will legitimately. Get. Worse. Nothing in Trump's plans nor the Republican manifesto will have substantial positive effects - and many of them will have substantial negative effects.
He's acting like a baby. "Oh no, my candidate of choice pushing for my interests didn't get elected. Waa! waa!" Suck it up and deal with it. You live in a democracy.
Something has gone wrong with the polls somehow. People aren't being truthful in America or Britain. Really wouldn't surprise me if the DNCs trickery in the primary ended up shooting them in the foot.
As a Pennsylvania progressive, I'd just like to apologize on the behalf of my state.
We might as well actually change our state name to Pennsyltucky at this point.
I dont care, I really just do not fucking care about the emails anymore. If they scream dictator to you then you're mentally unstable.
People grossly overestimate the amount of power the president actually has.
Trump has all he needs to set gay rights back to the 90's. He has the Presidency, he has Congress, and he has the Supreme Court. He can ban gay marriage, kick gays out of the military (and government if he wants), and legalize discrimination against them. The Democrats may not have enough power to stop it. It's very reasonable that lgbt persons would want to leave the country for one that actually gives a shit about them.
I hope users on here who voted for Trump will at least read this line: ...and realize that their vote actually had a real life impact on someone else. Even traditionally leftist outlets haven't outright acknowledged it. Without a suitable replacement in place, repealing Obamacare is going to literally kill people who would have otherwise not had to die. And it's thanks to Trump and Republican governors before him.

Less then a hundred years ago the president arbitrarily locked up all Americans of japanese descent including my family due to no fault of their own. That was not that long ago. It can happen again. We must not take our comfort for granted. We must care for and try to empathize with our fellow Americans or we will find ourselves again watching people be loaded onto trains into the desert or forced to live in horse stables.
This is sociopathic behavior, a poignant lack of empathy for people who feel drastically affected by circumstances outside of their control to the point of suicidal depression.
He's not wrong though. If you are driven to suicidal thoughts or behavior because trump won, you are not a rational individual, and are therefore by definition not fit to make decisions for yourself. You still get to vote, because the power to take away a vote is just begging to be abused, but it's perfectly reasonable for someone to dismiss a mentally ill person's opinions as without merit.
Keep enabling the crazies on the left who doxx people, who threaten to hurt people. who troll people into suicide attempts over a cartoon network show.
Where in his post did he suggest this? Between this and your last post maybe it's time to take a break?
You mean like how Hillary was actively against the 2nd amendment
Gun rights are not human rights.
You mean like how Hillary was actively against the 2nd amendment
Because being able to own a gun is obviously much more important than being able to work without being fired for your sexuality. If you prioritize guns over human rights, you have problems with empathy.
Fuck my life how am I even going to face tomorrow. I don't want to go to sleep because I'm waking up to this reality. Over 50% of my country voted for government who is against me as a person. It's not like I wanted to be gay. I wanted the opposite so much. After being pushed down flights of stairs and beaten bloody in high school I just swore off relationships forever. I went through so much therapy and mental bullshit to eventually come out as okay with who I am, to finally get over the immense amount of self-hatred and depression that drove me to multiple suicide attempts in college. Now just as I start to feel like things might work out and I might be acceptable in our society, fucking this happens. I have to try to find another place to live because I might not have rights here next year. There are people who view me as less than human and the majority agreed to put them in power. I seriously just want to crawl in a hole and disappear. I wish this didn't affect me but I seriously cannot help being gay and I can't help sympathizing with my LGBT friends who are also scared. Those people who were already unsafe in their communities now fearing for their lives in the face of a legitimized hate group. What do we even do? Where do we go? I'm not sure what I can afford and that terrifies me. I sympathize with those people who feel like suicide is an answer because honestly I'm seriously considering the same. I don't want to live in this country anymore. Its people are terrifying.
