Why would he need to win at Blackjack? The dude probably has more money than he knows what to do with.

Because it's fun? It's still a game you know.
to add on to judgeofdeath's point
even with endless money its fun because of the risk of loss or gain of money, even if its minor, the fun of winning outweighs the need for money
no matter how much money you have you still lose or win, or get no where
It's the same with progressive betting on Roulette.
First the dealer advises you that you will 'run into trouble' if you continue betting as you are.
Next the pit boss comes and advises you that you will 'run into trouble' if you continue betting as you are.
Heaven forbid you might actually win...
Then security escorts you out.
Moral of the story: Casinos don't like people who know what they're doing, and love people who have no idea.
real moral of the story:

I mean with all those games, you can become very good at it and know when/how to bed and such. I know I have done some competitive Euchre games and I am fairly good at knowing who is holding what. It is like any game, the more you play the better you get.
I think they, like a lot of businesses, reserve the right to refuse service. If they see you're a pro gambler they'll decline to let you play. It's not like you have a right to gamble in their casino, and if they aren't in violation of Federal laws against racial discrimination and the like, they can kick you out.
Isn't counting cards just cheating? You can be really good at cheating and it's still against the rules.
Unless I'm misunderstanding what counting cards means.
That's like saying driving with your eyes open is cheating. It's just better awareness of the situation.

A good comparison with better clarity would be poker. You're allowed to use information that is plainly visible, e.g. other player's facial expressions and body language to determine whether they're bluffing. But looking at another player's cards would be cheating, since that's information that you're not supposed to have access to according to the rules of the game. In Blackjack, keeping track of (counting) the cards that you are given is using plainly visible information, because you're allowed to look at your own cards, so it's not cheating.
If they can't handle card counting as a strategy, why don't they just modify the game to make it impossible?
Why pretend there's skill involved only to punish the people who actually use it?
They already have in most cases. A lot of casinos these days will play with 4 or more decks, and have one low-bet table with a single deck. They don't really let the dealers shuffle anymore either, that's too prone to letting people get streaks. Instead they use machines to shuffle. When I stayed at the Riviera and went down to play, they had a table with SIX decks and a shuffle machine.
Absurd.

Counting cards is actually just playing blackjack extremely well.
It's pretty obvious they banned him for the publicity it would get them. They also they it was because he was "too good" so they don't look bad.

I disagree. Casinos shouldn't be allowed to refuse you because you're good at the game. Casinos shouldn't be allowed to kick you out just because you win. There's different stakes at hand for Casinos, and its ridiculous for Casinos to be allowed to rig the odds in their favor by banning a certain group of people.

I hate to break it to you but odds are already rigged in the casinos favour even before you sit down at a table. Casino simply exploits these small (or in some games fairly large) differences in odds in their favour by using their immense cash reserves. Over a long period of time they will surely make money back as long as the player keeps playing. Also casinos have the right to refuse service to anyone, and they rarely kick someone off the premises unless there is definite cheating. With card counting they either ask you to stop playing at that specific table or ban you from playing blackjack. They would gladly have you in another game. When you look at it logically it makes sense. You playing blackjack is a liability for them. You getting kicked out means they lose whatever you accumulated up to that point. You staying and playing another game means they get another chance to reclaim their loses.
Also just to point out what many people have already mentioned in this thread: Card counting is not considered cheating. There is a huge difference in the way you will be asked to leave the casino between if you were simply too good or if you were cheating. Believe me you will be able to tell the difference. Plus if you were legitimately cheating and the casino proves it, I believe they are under no obligation to pay you your winnings. In the case of card counting they will pay whatever you've won up to that point and they'll simply not let you play any more.
As long as you look at gambling as another way of having fun and as a form of entertainment rather than a way to make money none of this really matters actually.
Dude, it's a casino...

Looking at gambling as anything but a way to have some fun is a dangerous and slippery slope. You will lose.

I was referring to the owners of the casino.
Just think if it was a non-celeb that was suspected of counting cards.
Anyway someone told me he made 800k so he must be betting big.
I'm guessing he got really good at this whole gambling thing when playing the role of a casino head in Runner Runner.
You mean actually playing Blackjack? Does the casino just expect you to yell HIT or STAY before you even look at the cards?
In casinos you have to do a hand signal so the camera sees you and there is no discrepancy.
Tapping on the table means you want to HIT. Waving your hand across means STAY.
