Protesting in the 60s = Protest, petition, call members of government etc.
Protesting now = LIKE SHARE CHANGE UR PROFILE PIC!! WOW IM HELPING SO MUCH XDD
Modern protesters protest for stupid crap, 25$ minimum wage, banning a fried chicken restaurant, Protesting the war [only under Bush, not under Obama? Why? I dunno] etc. Protesting is simply something edgy. People only pretend to care to feel good.

Was quite disappointed there is no Kanye West equal signs
Also getting quite sick of getting private messages of people asking me why I don't have the equal sign as my profile picture on Facebook. Fuck off, I don't put stupid shit up for your sake.
I think I can remember this one time long ago where there were these threads on Facepunch where people fought for colours and changed their avatars and shit. It was quite a big thing as well.

Didn't Garry just start off seizure day/week in the aftermath of that?
My response was to change to a Followers of the Apocalypse emblem
I had one dumb bitch change hers to a ≠ but no blue crosses that I've seen.
what about a swastika
This most likely started at Pope High School.. A whole lot of crazy douchebags there. Maybe even Lassiter High. I sure as hell know it wasn't my high school, Sprayberry, cause 95% of them were gay or bi.
This is pretty sad and honestly very unnecessary. But, I suppose they have the right.
I think both sides are retarded for doing this. It's not like changing your profile picture will add anything to the actually issue.
The most it's going to do is stir up arguments between you and your friends.
And in those arguments homophobes get called on their bullshit.
Changing avatars for nebulous international issues like Iranian freedom is an empty gesture, but visibility is an important tool for bringing about social change at home. There's no better cure for a homophobe then one of their loved ones coming out of the closet, and having their friends and family come out in support of same-sex marriage is probably the next-best thing.

man what an awful opinion to hold.
You edgy hipsters, stop caring about politics!
Is that cross supposed to be 3D? They did it wrong if it is. Just looks odd.
The red equals signs actually look quite distinctive when your facebook is full of them, and facebook is as good a medium for raising awareness as any.
There is also a movement of Christians posting blue crosses to signify opposition to gay marriage. Those people come in for no small amount of abuse, she said.
"They get a lot of angry comments and a lot of insults and a lot of bad messages," she said. "It's really awful. I'm for gay marriage, but I think it's awful that people are so accepting because they're for gay marriage, but then they go on people's profiles and they just hate the people with the blue crosses."
I like how they're surprised by this, that's probably because you're opposing a message of support with a message of bigotry, hatred, and a distinct feeling of "my opinion/belief allows me to prohibit other people from doing things they want to do, that hurt no one"
what about a swastika
What does the swastika symbolize? It looks like both combined.
What would it mean? Something like, "I'm okay with a guy poking another guy just so long a neither of them are Jewish?"

It's this kinda disgusting fake-activism to make it look like you really care about something. Same thing with the Iranian election-protests, where everyone changed their twitter avatars to green. At some point you have to make the decision to remove that avatar because A) It literally accomplished nothing and B) you don't care all that much anymore.

Telling a homophobe you are friends with on facebook to 'stop being a stupid idiot' and defriending them isn't fake activism...
Shame is an effective motivator.

Okay cool you have one less facebook friend. For some reason I doubt they are going to realign their social beliefs because of that.
yeah someone on my facebook had this and was claiming it was because she was protecting christianity. She didn't seem to understand it when people claimed it was the same bigotry that black people faced; and shes black.

One facebook friend is one thing. A thousand is another.
One facebook friend is one thing. A thousand is another.
No one really has a thousand friends.
I should totally set this as my picture just for the irony that out of all my friends i'm the only one that's gay and doesn't have the red equal sign, so i'd be the only gay guy out of my friends with the blue plus sign.
However, the irony here wouldn't be funny, it'd just be kind of ignorant....
-snip- N/m changed my opinion.
Ugh I went to High School in Cobb County, idiots. This is the same school county that had stickers in their biology books stating "This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered."
Most of my facebook did the red equals signs.

You could have posted this as:
"This most likely started at a certain high school... a whole lot of crazy douchebags there. Maybe even another one too. I sure as hell know it wasn't my high school, cause 95% of them were gay or bi.
The three high schools in my district are Lassiter High, Pope High, and Sprayberry High."
And we still would've known which was which.
Because, come on. Pope High and ~Sprayberry~ High.

Just because something doesn't require effort doesn't mean it's worthless.
Forcing a spike through your hand requires effort, and it achieves nothing.
