I am poised to question the choices the Dutch pilots made just as much as any other person would here, but what if the Taliban were equipped with Tracer Darts?
So i suppose you have had military service? Or have been in a war for that matter? Nice language by the way, you really know how to look intelligent while giving people a wicked burn. Right, except for RPGs which it was well established earlier those helicopters are not immune from.
They're about as immune to it as a mosquito a mile away from me when I try to shoot it with a BB gun.

Cunts. The americans and aussies saved those dickheads in world war 2. And what do they do? They just leave them to die. Bloody pricks.
But they didn't. Things which anyone expects to function 100% can go wrong, the so-called "friction of war". I don't know the exact, minute details of Afghan operations and SOP, but what if NATO/multinational patrols operated with the possibility of no support in mind? If they do then that means they need to implement changes to avoid such a problem turn into more casualties. How did I imply that I believe that "Apaches work like in video games"? You think that I imagine then where they hover absurdly close to the enemy like in that MoH game?
That wasn't really directed toward you. That was just a general comment on the whole situation about the helicopter being at risk. Sorry if it seemed that way.
I don't think the Dutch pilots know the meaning of the word 'ally'.
As for their rules of engagement, didn't stop us with our Apaches that time when our lads were in trouble and 3 Royal marines tied themselves to the outside of the Apaches to rescue some soldiers that needed help.

In this case, even the copilot got out to fight to get him back if needed
Holy shit.. What a shame that the guy that they were trying to rescue died =\
In this case, even the copilot got out to fight to get him back if needed
I was going to bring that up. I hope those pilots got recognized. What they did was way out of their job description.
Whats kind of bad too is the way the government reacted, they gave everyone EXCEPT the guys on the sides of the Helo's medals, obviously they did it to help a fellow brit soldier in need and not medals but still. 0vB, the pilots got recognised, the Royal Marines however, didn't.
It's about as subtle as being hit by a car [editline]21st October 2010[/editline] that is driven by a mosquito
Well that'd be a really small car, so you see the confusion Also Gunfox: I was thinking about that the entire thread, was about to post that. Brave lads they are.
Just realized it said one American dead. That pisses me off more than anything else. We spend so much money sending troops over there, maintaining bases in their country, and sending them their attack choppers. Then, they turn around and screw us when we need help from said helos.
So the single dead American infuriates you but the 10+ wounded British soldiers don't do anything to you?
So the single dead American infuriates you but the 10+ wounded British soldiers don't do anything to you?
Hes saying that he feels like the Dutch are turning their backs on America specifically because we provided the Apaches for them to pussy out in.
RPG-7s are SHITTY anti-air rockets.
Tell that to Mike Durant and Clifton Wolcott. ITT: civilians thinking they know military procedure If anything the apache crew probably was told to not engage, or couldn't engage due to ROE political bullshit

Nice way to fuck up there dutch. /joke

I live near an army auxiliary and have Apaches fly over every so often. I guaran-fucking-tee you it's next to impossible.
So the single dead American infuriates you but the 10+ wounded British soldiers don't do anything to you?
We give them this and they don't defend our own soldiers with it?
We sell them this and they don't defend our own soldiers with it?

blank quote
same conclusion so heh
To be honest this is completely expected from the Dutch. If the pilots were British or American we'd be reading a different story.
A lot of people are referencing the "Black Hawk Down" incident when talking about the dangers of RPG's. It's important to understand that there was far more RPG's in the air than the movie portrays. The pilots of the helicopters that survived said hundreds of RPG's were being fired up at their choppers at any given time. There's a big difference between a few guys in a force of 150 with RPG's and a town where everyone and their mother has an RPG.
I can't really say because I'm not there, but dad tells me the only countries that actually do a good job there are the US, Canada, and Britain. As far as he's concerned everyone else can just go if they want. (he's the adviser to afghan customs, mentor to all Afghan boarder crossings, and attends meetings with Generals and other high status people.)
