Rick Santorum Forcing His Children To Cuddle With A Fetus Not Weird, Say Psychologists

This is seriously something I'd expect out of some kind of Lovecraftian horror poem.
A mother simply cannot get over the death of her unborn child so she keeps the dead body around and cuddles with it.
His best advice to medical professionals is to "be flexible" to a couple's requests and feelings and not to push any agenda on the family. He does recommend naming the baby, if that is desired.
Dang Liberals and their sanity
Ewwwwww.
America, what is up with your politics? They're fucking insane.
Okay, I think my brain tried to say what the fuck, but short-circuited before the word the. I seen a lot of weird shit(that weird everything is bad website, a large amount of rabid fans making a religion based on a shitty book series turned movie because they love that gay person who they think is non-human, screamers), but this takes the cake. This is the most insane, crazy, sickening, and disgusting bullshit I have seen right now in politics.
I bet people still will vote for this person even after they revealed this to the public.
Actually, holding the dead child is said to help cope with the traumatic experience of losing a child, that part is actually normal. I can't say the same about the other parts

I'd held out hope, but now....I just....
of all the things to bash santorum with, the fact that he took his dead son home for a day before they buried it in an act driven by blind grief and a desire for closure seems pretty fucking low
Y'know, people used to do the same thing. Taking photographs of their dead made to look like they're alive was a fairly common practice a while back, around the 1900's.
Can't say it's any less weird, though.

Agreed, though the way that he completely bypassed his beliefs that he uses to beat down people with was pretty low of him, too. Then again I suppose you could argue that he simply values his family more than his faith, and that's respectable.
Wait so some bigot that brought home a fetus for his children to cuddle with can run for the leader of the most powerful nation? Oh man
Wait so some bigot that brought home a fetus for his children to cuddle with can run for the leader of the most powerful nation? Oh man
Just because it's the most powerful doesn't mean it's the smartest.
I think Poland has the highest IQ's, but that might just be in Europe.
The more I hear about this Santorum prick the more I question how the fuck he won over so much of the Iowa caucus. Are people really this fucking oblivious or careless? The guy is a fucking creep.

People are saying it was rigged. Though somebody posted some data I forgot to read that may have disproved that in the Iowa Caucus election thread.
He would need to do something resembling evil to be that.
For the time being he's the guy wearing the boards on the sidewalk proclaiming the end of the world.
Just wait until he falls into a vat of fetuses or something. He'll have dead baby themed outfits and gadgets, and leave miscarried babies around as a calling card.
"I am glad that my love for the dead overcame my fear of him," he writes. "We, like the Santorums, took a photograph of the baby -- lying, as if asleep, in Cati's arms. We have a framed copy in our bedroom. It's beautiful."
I think we've gone off the deep end and became a parody of ourselves.
when I first heard this story, (not about the bribed physiologists, but the first time about this) I really thought it was Onion. I'm not joking. When it comes to that point- just no. Fuck it, I'm done, we had a good run guys but I'm done.

Listen, I hate Santorum as much as the next guy (anyone who watched the Iowa caucus thread knows that), but seriously.

Where in the god damn hell do you assholes get off judging the way his family grieved?
Seriously. This whole thread fucking disgusts me. It's ok to find that strange or even disgusting, but this whole thread can be summed up as follows:
EW GROSS THEY CODDLED A DEAD BABY EW THAT'S SO GROSS AND WEIRD THEY MUST BE CRAZY OR AT LEAST RICK IS EW EW EW THEY'RE SUCH TERRIBLE PEOPLE EW GROSS EW SO WEIRD
Seriously FP, where the FUCK do you get off judging this family for the way the mourned their loss? A stillborn child or miscarriage is a fucking psychological hydrogen bomb, I know people who still haven't fully recovered from it. And when experts say that it really isn't weird and is an effective method of coping, people just go "OH THEY'RE PAID OFF", which is is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. But then I saw this:
So they get to dictate what's weird and not weird even though everyone else is saying "What the fuck"?
YES, BECAUSE BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THEY KNOW MORE ABOUT PSYCHOLOGY THAN US YOU FUCKING ASSWIPE. THE STUDY OF THE HUMAN MIND DOESN'T NEED TO FUCKING CONSULT POPULAR OPINION.
For how much Santorum and conservatives are bashed for how backward they are, the people who are shitting on the Santorum family for the methods in which they grieved is fucking revolting and stinks of the same backward, judgemental mentality so many of you claim to crusade against.
I'd like to make it perfectly clear, I hate Rick Santorum. But attacking him for something so intensely personal is absolutely childish and disgusting. And all of you should be ashamed.

I also love the way he sat with his legs and super tight pants.
How manly of him.

grieving is not forcing your kids to hug a corpse
Both my grandparents on my mother's side died a few years apart from eachother. There was no corpse hugging. And that was with family I had known my entire life. This is a miscarried fetus. It's different and it is insane.
[editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
We all know what it is like to lose those who are dear to us, but we do not party with the corpses or whatnot.
Cuddling with a dead fetus... hmm :pwn:
I saw pictures of a younger brother who my mother lost to still birth.
I'm happy with a picture, I would not have been happy if my parents brought home a child who I thought would be a bouncing baby boy, only to realize he was deceased.
I'm trying my hardest to convince my friend to not vote for this guy. I showed him the article.
HE STILL WANTS TO VOTE FOR HIM.

For one, where does it say he "forced" his kids to cuddle the corpse? Oh yeah nowhere. For two, like I said, where do you get off judging the way his family grieved? If you told me that you hugged your grandparent's corpses after they'd died, I wouldn't immediately go "Well that's another one for the nuthouse!" I may think it strange, but I'm not going to call you insane for the way you grieve your losses.

To grieve is one thing. This isn't grieving. Forcing your family to sleep with a DEAD BODY can have serious mental repercussions later in life, even if they seem okay with it at first.
Don't try to dodge the fact that it's downright wrong, a dead anybody should be properly buried/cremated, not toted around the house for several days.
you say the dead of a newborn is a "psychological hydrogen bomb". Do you really think shoving their kids' faces in its corpse is going to aid the healing process? This isn't a trick question.

They named a fucking 20 week fetus and hugged it as a form of mourning, and you're judging us?
If there's anything I took away from my university social science education, it's that mourning the dead is steeped in tradition that a lot of people hold as sacred. Doesn't mean they're right, and it definitely doesn't mean they're harmless. Take the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea, for example, who learned the hard way that eating the brains of the dead is a dumb fucking idea... but hey, we should just let them all contract a brain rotting disease and not mention anything to them because their beliefs are sacred, right? Get over yourself apologists, being unable to cope with loss on a level like this indicates a very sick mind. This man, and likely his whole family, are not right, and need help.
Well I guess it could have been worse, at least he didn't take it to a taxidermist.

Uh, again, where does it say he "forced" his family to "tote the dead body around"? Oh yeah NOWHERE. Unless I misread the article the idea that he forced this on his family is myth it is a complete and utter fabrication. And do you have a doctorate in Psychology? Is that why you're making such stern factual judgement on their actions' psychological impact? This isn't a trick question.

But they did cope with their loss! This happened in 1996. And since they're all functional human beings sixteen years later, I'd say that they don't really need help.
I heard it wasn't dead when they brought it home, but that it only had 10 or so hours to live, even if it was left in the hospital.
