I didn't like that Jabba scene in the re-releases, hes way too small.
The scene is largely superflous, which is why it wasn't there in the original (and jabba only got in there on the 1997 rerelease).
They used some Ralph McQuarrie inspired designs Compare this http://ll-media.tmz.com/2014/05/31/sw-7-26-480w.jpg To This http://i1.wp.com/makingstarwars.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/jabbas-palace-gate.jpg
It also ruins the mystery surrounding Jabba
I have high hopes for these movies, specially knowing that they're using actual physical props and staging. CGI can be done nicely has has a place, but real props have a magic to them.
What, you think we have Blasters, Combat-Walkers, Warp-Travel and Hyperspace, Lightsabers and Aliens living amongst us today? I know it starts off with 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away' but come on. Dont be stupid for the sake of 5 seconds of trolling giggles.
Get wrecked.

I never said it had to be 'chrome' and fancy and clean and prim and proper. I just dislike the incredibly bland desert-theme of Tatooine that wouldnt even look out of place here on Earth today. There's no reason why we cant see a 'modern' city of their time-era that also happens to have grungy, run-down, rain-slick, oil-stained and rusted metalwork, crumbling masonry and neglected infrastructure. But when its set in the ass-end of nowhere amidst endless sand-dunes and dusty rocks, why does anybody care about anything that happens in that backwater?
What part of "a galaxy far far far away" do you not understand. Not everything devoleps the same way here on earth. Read The Road not Taken. Great short story about how a species develops interstellar space travel, but uses weapons from the 17th century. Then gets wrecked when they come to earth.
boy does this make me want to play knights of the old republic
Get wrecked.
I'm not sure how that proves anything, the dates in the middle are totally arbitrary.
Wasn't the Millenium Falcon stolen from the Empire? IIRC it was some kind of prototype? It being built before Qui-Gon was even a Jedi Knight makes no sense..
It's a run of the mill Corellian freighter that's been outfitted by a line of smuggler captains as far as I'm concerned. If the EU wants to muddy it up... well it isn't cannon anymore.
This is pleasing and fills me with optimism. They have already filled a big request of mine by not relying so heavily on CG so much. My next request is to not rely on fanservice for marketing purposes and have it be something that tries to stand out on it's own and tries to capture that sense of something new and memorable in a massive and imaginative universe. I am a little bit wary that they are shoving the original cast in there, I wish they would just let go and try to make characters that will be as respected and memorable as the original cast in the next 30 something years. I would pretty much shut down if they tried to shove boba fett in there like they did for the Clone Wars.
In my opinion, most of the CGI added to Episodes IV-VI looks dated as hell while the original effects still hold up. One of the worst looking effects that comes to mind is CGI Jabba.
The only reason the 1997 version may look better is because it looks less out of place, but once you see that thing in motion you know the film's better off without it. They both look like shit anyway.
Yep, that's why the practical effects in the original trilogy aged so poorly and now look like crap... OH WAIT THEY STILL LOOK BETTER THEN THE CGI IN THE PREQUELS EVER DID.
We're in a different age today.
I heard somewhere that they are actually using the same type of film that the original trilogy was filmed on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't most/all the previous star wars movies, filmed using digital, not print?
The only reason the 1997 version may look better is because it looks less out of place, but once you see that thing in motion you know the film's better off without it.
I really dont see why Star Wars, a Sci-Fi film / series set in the far-future with fantastical technology, has to showcase Tatooine, a world that basically resembles the backwards Middle-East of today. Why cant we see more of Imperial Core Worlds or Industrial places? Taris? Kashyyyk? Coruscant? Sure, the movie(s) arent obviously entirely set on Tatooine, but any segments of film-time set on such a world are always so droll and dull. Its great to see some physical assets though, for sure, and not just CGI.

What, you think we have Blasters, Combat-Walkers, Warp-Travel and Hyperspace, Lightsabers and Aliens living amongst us today? How does you being ignorant make him a troll?
holy practical effects obi-wan
Fuck yes, practical effects and animatronics are the best
Wasn't the Millenium Falcon stolen from the Empire? IIRC it was some kind of prototype? It being built before Qui-Gon was even a Jedi Knight makes no sense..
Eh? No. The Millennium Falcon appears in Episode 3. Lucas said himself that it is the Millennium Falcon.
We're in a different age today.
So... because we CAN use cgi, that makes it automatically better, retroactively ruining the masterworks put into oldschool practical effects. if you use a practical effect for say, a car crashing, and do it well, in the future that scene will always look like a really good car crash effect, cause a car actually fucking CRASHED. do that with cg and in 2 years people are laughing at you.

Dislike CGI all you want, but for me it's superior for that kind of stuff.
considering that the fucking puppet yoda in the original movies looked BETTER then the cgi yoda did I'm going to have to disagree here still.
I don't care how shit star wars is with their old ass CGI, like I said we're in an entirely different age now.
considering that the fucking puppet yoda in the original movies looked BETTER then the cgi yoda did I'm going to have to disagree here still.
You have to admit though, the CGI Yoda in 2 and 3 looked a lot better then Stoner Puppet Yoda in Episode 1 I'm not sure what is going on with Ep 1 Puppet Yoda, but he just looks so weird.
I don't care how shit star wars is with their old ass CGI, like I said we're in an entirely different age now.
what the fuck does this have to do with the fact that practical effects STILL AGE BETTER.
Millennium Falcon Set pics http://bit.ly/1oRL5pP
I never understood why the puppet for Yoda was so much better in the original trilogy than in episode I. [editline]3rd June 2014[/editline]
Millennium Falcon Set pics http://bit.ly/1oRL5pP
Holy shit
Millennium Falcon Set pics http://bit.ly/1oRL5pP
That is a weird looking [sp]X-Wing[/sp]

The [sp]X-wing[/sp] In the set pictures might be based off the Original Ralph McQuarrie art It has half-engines instead of full round ones like the in the Concept art.
Did they film it in Tatooine aka Tunisia or is it some other desert? [editline]lul[/editline] Oh Abu Dhabi, missed that.
