It would have been better if he had survived, told his great attitude to his comrades and family, and hopefully bring up his kids with the same mentality. Changing the world to the better.
But still thanks for the sacrifice.
Yeah, im sure that dieing for the financial interests of the elite was "all worth it".

and so by building schools and fighting islamic fundamentalists in order to protect civilians, he died for "the financial interests of the elite"? I think he'd have a better idea of the impact he had on civilian lives than you would.

This is the problem with Americans: we love hating our country.
Anyway, rest in peace.
what a wasted opportunity for the sign-off of all sign-offs.
my personal picks for last words:
"eh it could have been better"
"meh, wasn't much else to do"
"now i'll never get to finish war and peace. i'm both sad and relieved."
As much as I appreciate this sentiment, this quote seems a bit odd:
Was he seriously under the impression that he was safeguarding American children's lives by killing insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan? If so, then this quote is just preposterous, but any death is a sad one. On the other hand he could be referring to any children in the Middle East who may have been terrorized, in which case it's a great quote.

But there will be a child who will live because men left the security they enjoyed in their home country to come to his. And this child will learn in the new schools that have been built. He will walk his streets not worried about whether or not his leader’s henchmen are going to come and kidnap him. He will grow into a fine man who will pursue every opportunity his heart could desire. He will have the gift of freedom, which I have enjoyed for so long.
Makes it's pretty clear he's talking about middle-eastern children.
That letter... brought me manly tears.

Can you really not award this man the decency, recognition and respect to say "Rest in Peace", as opposed to three abridged letters? What kind of world do we live in where an individual such as this perishes, and all we can give them is an acronym in memory of that?
very sad to hear about any war related death
but that note just breaks your heart
i assume he wrote that incase he died and would have been dilivered later
What kind of world do we live in where an individual such as this perishes, and all we can give them is an acronym in memory of that?
the kind of world where people have wars for material gain and boredom????
just a guess
No it wasn't. The entire war is a farce. He shouldn't have been in that conflict, Ever. It's the faults of fat-cats and money-hungry tycoons that young men like him are slaughtered every day.

Even if you don't think what America is doing is right or the war has no meaning other than oil, think about people like this who really were fighting for a cause.
Goodnight, sweet prince.

I dont, because most of you people are hypocrits. What was he doing over there in the first place?
Forcing his help onto other countries? haha, I dont give a fuck if your mission is to create world-peace,
once you are part of the army that invades another country on false assumptions and lies you shouldnt be surprised if the people hate you.
America needs to mind its own fuckin business and as long as there are people like this guy right here,
serving some suit wearing monkeys that dont give a SINGLE FUCK about their citizens (yes you americans) it wont.
Yeah, im sure that dieing for the financial interests of the elite was "all worth it".
This kid is still butt hurt over you know what...
It wasn't worth his life so he could die on a fucking lie. We are not over there for anything other than control. Terrorists are basically not a threat anymore.
I dont, because most of you people are hypocrits. What was he doing over there in the first place?
Alright lets start. He was there because of our mission to Afghanistan, a country we invaded on the pretense that they were harboring Osama Bin Laden, which we now know wasn't true because our best buds Pakistan was quietly harboring him.

What was the lie and false assumptions to invade Afghanistan? Because it sounds like you're trying to make this argument as if we went in there for shits and giggles, which in retrospect was the entire Iraqi war to me. We went into Afghanistan with the purpose of destroying the Taliban government and with the hopes of finding and killing Osama Bin Laden. Iraq was the biggest fucking quagmire in my honest opinion, and though we killed a horrible dictator we have created a powder keg of violence there. We were lied to for our reasoning to be in Iraq, but that doesn't mean soldiers have the power of choice of where to serve, the real choice a soldier has is if his orders are humane or not, like for example a soldier has the right to deny an order to kill prisoners, because this is a cruel waste of human life.
With Afghanistan I can garner that the hate for us there is because of how long we have stuck around there. Not really our fault either, we were still on the Bin Laden hunt, but he's dead and we should have left Afghanistan that very instant.

Now I could go into long paragraphs using logic and reason as to why this Marine dying in Afghanistan and what you're saying is completely fucking wrong, but I'll leave you to your own stupidity.
At least if you're going to bitch about something, do it with an appropriate amount of knowledge on the subject so when you talk about it you don't seem like an uneducated biased asshole, which you obviously seem to be.

This is not fucking Iraq. Afghanistan =/= Iraq.
The Bishop tells us: 'When the boys come back
'They will not be the same; for they'll have fought
'In a just cause: they lead the last attack
'On Anti-Christ; their comrades' blood has bought
'New right to breed an honourable race,
'They have challenged Death and dared him face to face.'
'We're none of us the same!' the boys reply.
'For George lost both his legs; and Bill's stone blind;
'Poor Jim's shot through the lungs and like to die;
'And Bert's gone syphilitic: you'll not find
'A chap who's served that hasn't found some change.
' And the Bishop said: 'The ways of God are strange!'

What exactly are we there for then? The Taliban are basically in hiding now, we got Osama, what else is left?

I don't have to answer this because I already have, read my post instead of where I caught you for your statement. I'll help by bolding it.
In other words, nothing but to make sure the Afghan military is stable, then we'll leave, but this should have been completed so much sooner then it has.

We finished our original mission there, the taliban are basically gone and Osama is dead, there's no need to stay there and let the troops die. My brother's military career is over because of a few assholes in Afghanistan, he was shot in the arm with a 12.7mm russian AM rifle. It was from over a mile away and went through something before it hit him, but it fucked him up and while he was at the hospital, his Morphine IV malfunctioned and caused an overdose that nearly killed him.
