In my experience of TB, I haven't really noticed him being an asshole. Just very brutally honest in his critique.
The way he's very, VERY blunt and called himself the cynical brit gave people the false impression that the guy was an absolute cunt all the time (he can be a bit obnoxious on how heavy his critic is sometimes and it can get to the point where, yes, he does sound like a cunt, but from what people said he's not exactly one for real). It also means people who watched his videos did what a lot of fans do and essentially started copying his attitude or what they perceived as his attitude, being over-critical of anything and becoming bigger dicks than the guy has ever pretended to be.
Honestly for a long time I stopped watching his videos but I gave them another shot and if you take them with a bit of distance and put his critique in relation to your own needs his videos become more interesting and funnier generally.
Concerning the whole current situation he should really take a break, he'd probably get the necessary distance if he backs off for a bit to reconsider the exact weight of a bunch of idiots going ballistic on his videos (which is pretty much non-existent, as soon as you realize you're getting paid good money for playing games you got for free in the comfort of your home).
Are you implying that making Youtube content on that large of scale is not a real job?
I'm glad to see that he is still professional, none of this has seeped into his WTF is... or other videos.
not at all, I mean real job as in a normal employment, not self employed.
"what the rest of us do" if you will
if my job was making me so distressed that I needed a therapist, I would. In any case, he has a better opportunity to quit his job and start at a new one because he'll receive residual checks fro quite some time even if he never makes another video.
Where are you getting these residual checks from? I don't get it. The amount of money he makes from old videos getting views is negligible at best.
social websites literally have block/ignore buttons
I'm sure he'd love to sit down and simply block/ignore the constant barrage of idiots who shit on him daily.
It's not that simple.

His "residual checks" would be beyond insignificant.
social websites literally have block/ignore buttons
are you Dass
Okay, you go quit your job, and then try to find another one that makes you enough money to feed a family.
Does TB have a family?
Where are you getting these residual checks from? I don't get it. The amount of money he makes from old videos getting views is negligible at best.
I'm no monetization expert, but i think that what you just said is flat out false. I'm willing to bet he makes more money from views on old videos, than money from the first week of views on those same videos.
social websites literally have block/ignore buttons
Yeah because hitting ignore on tens of thousands of people commenting every few minutes is totally rational.
Does TB have a family?
He's married and has a stepson who's probably around 8-10 now.
I'm sorry but I can't feel bad for anyone who makes as much money as TB does.
You do not even know how much money TB makes.
You chose to take up a career in the public eye, deal with it or retire from it.
He does this for a living and enjoys it. Not very fair that he has to stop what he loves to do because of a bunch of trolls.
Why don't we do a study on the stresses of an underpaid factory worker and see if you'd like trade places with them.
You can't compare a depressed factory worker to a depressed youtuber. They are depressed for completely different reasons.
No one is making you read those comments, and no one is making you continue to be Total Biscuit.
Kinda hard/impossible to communicate with your community if you ignore the comments.
Take the money you've made, accept your residuals, and retire from youtube. Maybe you'll have to get a real job, but life will still be easier for you with the money you've already made, and the residual checks coming in for a while.
Once again you don't know how much he actually makes, so how do you know if he has made enough to retire?
If it's that bad, leave don't bitch about it and make it worse, or even more pitifully use a sob story to garner attention to your channel.
Once again he enjoys being a game reviewer/critic and shouldn't be forced to leave. Also what you are saying is that instead of venting he should just bottle up his feelings?

He's addressing an issue to the public and several other YouTube channels get similar stress and ridiculous comments like he does. I don't think he's making it worse for him at all by speaking out about it.
I never understood why people say " get over it".
That's because they don't understand and think it's that easy to get over these issues.
I'm no monetization expert, but i think that what you just said is flat out false. I'm willing to bet he makes more money from views on old videos, than money from the first week of views on those same videos.
90-95% of ad revenue is made during the first week of a video being uploaded.
When you have a whole community of people hating you, I don't think you should post online about your mental problems. It can lead to things getting worse.
I understood that the average pay from youtube is $3,300 per million views overall. Of course this depends on demographics and clickthrough ratio and all that, but a view/click on an old video is just as good as a new video, is this not the case?
I hate that it's boiling down to a money issue.
It's more than that. When a bunch of insecure apathetic assholes degrade you as a person to the point of making you stop doing what you love to do, it's becomes way more than how much money you make.
The only reason I ever thought he was a bit of a cunt was because he did some massive rant about people who request what sort of stuff he does on his channel, he just went on and on about how it was his channel and he could put up whatever videos he wanted, rather than just ignoring people. However after reading this maybe that makes sense, maybe he's just not the sort of person who can tune out the white noise of people shitposting.
90-95% of ad revenue is made during the first week of a video being uploaded.
right so 5% - 10% revenue on hundreds of videos is not good enough to tide you over until you find a new career? Me and millions of other people had to do it with no income.
all I'm saying is that this smells like a pity party to increase views and exposure, and if he was really having mental problems, he has an out. It's kind of a "punch in the gut" as one facepuncher put it to hear someone who has every opportunity to get out of his situation complaining about it when most of us have no choice but to continue with the degradation we receive from our peers. He chose this career, he should have expected this. There are better ways to deal with internet trolls than posting more fuel for their fire online, unless that was the goal, of course.

You make money off of views on videos.
Video views follow a plateau, they have a quick burst and then level off with maybe a few dozen views daily.
He can either upload a video for 200 000 views netting immediate money or wait for his old videos to make enough to even be eligible.
I'm not sure either how it works but just use some logic from time to time.

It is, but you get most of your views during the first week. Take WTF is Loadout for instance, uploaded 4 days ago, 248,000 views, that's TB's average view count overall. In the next say, 3 months, he'll probably be getting like 2k views tops. Which is like 10 dollars.
Now lets have a look at how Facepunch consensus changes

I wouldn't say TB is an ass. He's a tad cold and unforgiving (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), but I don't really remember him being a douche of any kind.

How many of those calling him a cunt are defending him now?

How much are you willing to bet?
Old videos do not gain a lot of views, especially if it's some video on a game update that's a year old. Most videos from YouTubers with millions of subscribers usually get the most views when they release the video. That's where the peak is and it's almost always like that. That video they uploading is in every subscribers subscription box, not some old video.

Facepunch isn't a hivemind.
Though to be fair I probably called him some unsavory words too but at that point I had no idea what kind of stress the dude was going through
I don't care for TB's videos at all and never watch them but I don't understand the raging hate boner some people seem to have
so the guy makes bad videos, so what
-snip-
are you Dass
it honestly just feels like he's shitposting at this point, I'd suggest just not responding or blocking him entirely, I'm not taking his side in what he said by the way
Sad to hear this, been following him since his WoW videos, great guy.
