Sad fact: Even without extreme stress it's very common to start getting grey hairs at 25-30.
Not really
And I'm glad I heard that recording he made, that he realises he's a huge dick to a LOT of people, both his supporters and devs.
Not really
I'm clad his thing of trying to make people not buy games because of his opinion is over.
Not really
You should check out his pseudo intellectual rant during his SA days.
That was like 10 years ago. You know how much someone changes in their 20s? A fucking lot.
I was a bible thumper 10 years ago.
All these people telling him to grow a thicker skin should go away and spend about 10 hours making a video about something they are passionate about, then post it online and have people call the video and you shitty and dumb. Then do that every day for 3 years.
Pretty much this. I'm 19, I work at Walmart midnight shifts part-time, rake in about 350 a paycheck. I live with my mom, and little brother -- I fork my entire check for bills, and I'm usually left with like 40 bucks to my name after a month. But I'm like... a very happy person, generally. Very content, albeit sometimes bored -- but I never wanted to do much in life, just to live and be content. A lot of people can't handle that, though. They look at me and say I'm a failure, or I have no future. They're the ones who're stressing out, having health issues, ect. I'm just 'go-with-the-flow', carefree sort of lifestyle. I'm almost positive I could be homeless and still be happier than like, 80% of people who rake in 40k+ a year.
I really envy that

I'm not telling all those content creators to grow a thicker skin, but like boogie whatever said, it reaches a point where getting feedback from people becomes impossible since so many of them hate you. At that point, any reasonable person would say: "gee, comments on my videos are really hateful now, should I a. keep reading them or b. not read them at all?" And expand videos to Twitter/reddit/whatever. From what I read in TB's statement he actively chose a over b, so I don't understand why after 3 years of choosing a he comes complain like it's some surprise. Of course if you keep reading hateful things thrown at you they'll have an effect, but to fix this all you have to do is NOT read them. You don't have to grow a thicker skin, you just completely ignore everything people say to you, keep making videos and go on with your life. What's problematic about this? (you might point out that you need to listen to what people want, but in TB's case he REALLY doesn't, his channel is so big that no matter what he does he'll get more subscribers, and even if he feels he does he can just get someone else to do it)
It's absolutely unbelievable to see how people think that sympathy equals to fanboyism. How can a person have such a lack of empathy and comprehension. You can still respect a person even if you disagree with it.
I've only seen a small about of TBs videos and I feel bad for him. I'm not a fan boy at all. No idea why people would think of that.

Internet and Anonymous = ability to act like a total shit face without having to face real consequences.

By the sounds of it reading comments isn't really a voluntary choice by this point, it's more of an addiction (he can't stop himself). Saying he should just stop reading comments is like saying an alcoholic should just stop drinking - yes, that's the ideal but it's easier said than done.

What's the old saying? Curiosity killed the cat? If I'm thinking about it enough I'd check back in on a post I'd made to see if someone replied, why wouldn't TB do the same?
On the Internet you can be a complete asshole, troll or send hate comments and get away with it.
This can of course be good and bad.

Do you see alcoholic people complaining that bars sell alcohol? You don't. Alcoholic people deal with their problems, they don't ask for the world to change because they can't change themselves.

At the same time a single faceless asshole means pretty much nothing. It only gets problematic when there's a large concentration of them.
And expand videos to Twitter/reddit/whatever.
Actually, TB disables comments on all of his videos now and instead posts a link to his subforum on Reddit.
At the same time a single faceless asshole means pretty much nothing. It only gets problematic when there's a large concentration of them.
Except now that's all you get. You say one thing that hurts the ego of the broclub/trollclub and they swarm at you.
Except now that's all you get. You say one thing that hurts the ego of the broclub/trollclub and they swarm at you.
Broclub will swarm you in real life too. Go say something negative about a specific football team to team's broclub. Same deal.
He should have expected something that the vast majority of us didn't even realize was an issue until recently?
What, you mean people who are famous/semi-famous receive unwarranted hate from the anonymous masses? FUCKING UNHEARD OF.
seriously, where the fuck have you been that you just recently realized that this happens?
He should have expected it even more than a normal "famous" person because he makes a living by critiquing games that people are literally fanatical over, and he's known for being harsh and blunt about it.
Yes in every way he should have expected, and mentally prepared for this.
Actually, TB disables comments on all of his videos now and instead posts a link to his subforum on Reddit.
That way there's actual moderation.
Do you see alcoholic people complaining that bars sell alcohol? You don't. Alcoholic people deal with their problems, they don't ask for the world to change because they can't change themselves.
Neither is TB.

Well he's not doing so either, but what's the point you're trying to get across anyway? Would asking people to stop being such assholes really asking too much?
If Totalbiscuit were to do himself in because of this bullshit, then I am just giving up on what the internet can do.
Don't even say that man, nobody deserves that kind of stress. I sincerely hope that doesn't happen. The guy's actually really nice, I have a buddy who met him at some convention and apparently he was a great guy. He got me a signed top hat.

What if his harsh reviews caused the game developers to seek professional help, would you be rabidly defending them against someone who did what they are fully within their rights to do?
To me it seems like TB is perfectly content when he's the one being harsh, but when his viewers start being the ones who are harsh he cries mental stress and all of a sudden your a bad person if you criticize him. Not only are you guys helping to spread his name around but you are literally vilifying any criticism to him.
That's a real shitty card to play to boost ad revenue if you ask me.
There's a fine line between people actually just threatening you and being super mean, and just not wanting to hear people tell you they don't like you. People have every right to say they don't like the guy or his videos, and if that's all this is over then he can fuck off.
What if his harsh reviews caused the game developers to seek professional help, would you be rabidly defending them against someone who did what they are fully within their rights to do?
But hey, atleast those reviews are done fare and square. He gives us a good impression of what the game is like.

But he's not attacking the developers with insults and verbally abusing them, it's not about criticism. These comments aren't just harsh there is nothing else to them than making someone feel bad.
That's the price of beign famous on YT? I mean, many famous Youtubers get ammount of troll comments and shit, but it's something normal I guess, as long as many people support him and makes his job worth it.
The thing is that you cannot simply ignore all the feedback. As a content producer on youtube, you really need to see how people percieve your content. Be it in a positive or negative manner, if you just put your head in the ground it will hurt you on the long run because you're simply not listening to your community which hurts the channel.
Nevertheless the negative comments are always louder and more easily noticeable than the positive ones. Negative things are always noticed at first, it's in the human nature. To be honest whenever I watched his videos I saw a lot of positive comments and only a few bad ones.

If you look at the comment section for any famous YouTuber, you'll see the amount of troll comments they get per video. Some get more than others.

TotalBiscuit is not the first case of depression we've seen in the Internet business and he certainly won't be the last, some people aren't just made to be famous/celebrities. And it's not only related to the Internet business, a lot of artists couldn't deal with being famous which ultimately led them to their death.
Saying "Well it happens to others" is simply trying to group everyone as one entity, but you can't do that. Every human reacts differently.

THEN LEAVE THE BUSINESS
The way I see it this whole fiasco is one of three things:
1. TB really can't understand the nature of the internet, and the bad comments are getting to him so badly that he needs a therapist - it's time to leave the business if this is the case, it's not meant for your personality type.
2. TB got sick of the harsh comments and criticism he was getting so he came up with this therapist thing to help calm it down/generate thousands of white knights who will shame everyone out of voicing their opinions
or
3. He really doesn't care, his popularity had stopped growing quickly enough, so he threw an imaginary fit as a publicity stunt - if this is the case, TB can fuck off.
THEN LEAVE THE BUSINESS
Do you still live with your parents?
Do you still live with your parents?
What? What does that even mean? What are you getting at?
If the fucking job is pushing you to suicide the job is not worth it, and you should leave it.
