Ukraine to seek Nato membership, says PM Yatsenyuk

Joining NATO is a process that takes years and years and which Ukraine was already seeking until Yanukovych scrapped it. They're not going to "join in the middle of war" - applying to join is just the start of a very long process which eventually leads to membership if you're lucky. While Ukraine likely won't be let into NATO itself for a while, being on a path to membership has advantages too as NATO provides some assistance to help candidate countries meet their requirements for joining.
