America isn't even a democracy. It's a representational republic. A republic exists to stop the tyranny of the majority he's talking about. VLN, you're just talking out your ass if you're actaully defending taking away gay rights. Yeah, you might as well be a fucking dictatorship/fascist government if you're discriminating against your own citizens.
Did VLN even come back to this thread
Im for gay marriage, and prop 8 shouldnt have existed to begin with, but I don't believe that the government should have the power to overrule the voice of the people. and yes, i think prop 8 is unconstitutional [editline]20th February 2011[/editline] who ever let it get on the ballot in the first place should be revoked of their duties
Did VLN even come back to this thread
Nope.

No, seriously. You're saying it's ok to revoke the rights of people just because a fucking vote passed? Do you realize that your country isn't even a democracy, and the citizens are supposed to be protected from a tyranny of the majority for fucks sakes.

I saw this one coming. Was hoping against it, but it was inevitable
For fuck sake. There is no valid argument against giving homosexuals the right to marry. Just let them get married already.
If there were some magical cure that outright eliminated sexual desire, hetero or not, would people regard it as a miracle or an abomination?
When will the fundamentalists and opposition groups realise that they do not have a monopoly on the word nor the concept of marriage. The concept is fucking universal and it even exists in other species, while the word itself is only a word. [editline]21st February 2011[/editline]
But see here, it was the people's vote. They voted to block gay marriage. It is their decision. If judges can then go and say what the majority of the people voted for is invalid, that is a direct infringement on our rights. The people's decision may not be right, but it isn't the court's duty to repeal what the people have voted for. [editline]19th February 2011[/editline] We might as well be a dictatorship if that is the case.
You should watch The Great Debators... it addresses this issue completely and blows it right out of the water. Its got Denzel Washington too so you know its good.
If there were some magical cure that outright eliminated sexual desire, hetero or not, would people regard it as a miracle or an abomination?
Hello, there is one, it's called castration. At least for men.

Do you realize that your country isn't even a democracy, and the citizens are supposed to be protected from a tyranny of the majority for fucks sakes.
It is a democracy in the contemporary popular usage of the word, in that it derives its power from the people. Saying it's 'not a democracy' is misleading. Just sayin'. (Technically under the proper definition of the word it isn't I know but when people think 'democracy' they tend to think of the above definition. Except VNL, who apparently thinks 'democracy' means as long as a lot of people think it's fair, then it is fair.)
