Not being on Facebook is 'suspicious' - most likely insane or a mass murderer
Nobody is saying that, there are people who have active social lives and they don't have facebook but they're a pretty small fucking group. I don't even use facebook as often as most, it's just annoying that every time facebook is brought up no discussion can be had because there's like 90 posts of completely spaghetti fountains spewing absolute bullshit about how facebook is a cancer because they're 7 year old cousin posted a stupid meme :downs:
no one is saying this dude
oh, and sweeping statements that mean nothing, cool
Yeah, that's a part of it.
Facebook isn't the best social networking site I'm sure, it's just the one people use. As such it's the most important.
how is it important?
sane
but antisocial
Not having a Facebook account =/= antisocial automatically
I'd say those that don't have Facebook accounts are even more social than those with one.
Yes, but which one is more beneficial?
Now you're just trying to create an argument for the sake of creating an argument
No one has fucking said that in this thread except you.
Right, nobody is complaining about facebook because people occasionally post stupid shit on it
Its not just outdated memes.
Its just about anything that screams bullshit. Even worse when you know the person who's posting.
I get people posting that "you dont need x when you got swag" shit, I get people with pictures trying to be badass by saying they would fuck someone's shit when they'd probably fall to their knees at the sight of a pencil, I get people whoring likes saying it will save/give respect if you like the picture of a kid with some fucked up malformation or some fucked up dog that makes you puke your dinner from last night...
The list goes on.
Better yet, just did a quick browsing... More pictures with shitty phrases that make no sense, more VOTE ME's and more shit nobody other than guys hitting on girls care about.
except wait they are.

What grounds does this stand on? Seems kind of backwards
[editline]l[/editline]
Fucking Automerge
Now you're just trying to create an argument for the sake of creating an argument
Right now, this is merely a debate, and even if that spilled over into the debate, it'd still be a debate.
how is it important?
It defeats the purpose of a social networking site if nobody uses it. I initially wrote the word "best" in its place, but having already used it I changed it.
Whether or not one has a Facebook is important. A Google+ who cares.

says who? what makes you magically factor a certain group of people
What grounds does this stand on? Seems kind of backwards
Because they can know it isn't some stranger behind the screen and is actually who they claim to be are, and as such, can trust them more.

you're evading my question. how is having a facebook account important? why should an employer care? why should it reflect positively or negatively on you whether or not you have one?
[editline]1[/editline]
plenty of insane people use facebook. billions of people don't use facebook
But Facebook is just another means to chat and share with your friends so by having a Facebook account you are automatically more social than someone who doesn't.
But Facebook is just another means to chat and share with your friends so by having a Facebook account you are automatically more social than someone who doesn't.
I could spew dumb shit on Facebook such as "like this is you think the sun shuts off at night!" and I'd get thousands upon thousands of them.
I don't want to be known as having been on the service when in 5 years when it (most likely) goes the MySpace route that everyone would refer to as "the place where dumb people shared dumb shit".
you're evading my question. how is having a facebook account important? why should an employer care? why should it reflect positively or negatively on you whether or not you have one?
I'd practically forgotten this was a thread about employers because it turned into shit-on-Facebook 2K12
Having a Facebook account is important because it suggests that you are more likely to be a social person, because more social people are more likely to have Facebooks. That is the extent to which an employer should be concerned about a potential employee having a Facebook.
It should not be an employer's concern because of desire to track the employee, that is unethical.
But Facebook is just another means to chat and share with your friends so by having a Facebook account you are automatically more social than someone who doesn't.
social interaction through facebook is meaningless
The reason why the article has any type of value is because when people - authorities - examine the 'lone gunman' mentality they show striking resemblance in how they act socially.

The thought that any employer would think anyone without a Facebook account automatically = insane is disturbing.
Then again, it's Daily Mail.
plenty of insane people use facebook. billions of people don't use facebook
Ah, a fellow manual editliner.
I think that the "billions of people don't use Facebook" argument is flawed. How many people that don't use Facebook have access to internet? How many of these billions of people are relevant to me, meaning people who live around me and are targets for social activity?

That's a tremendous exaggeration of the issue.
who says?
My personal observations would justify it in my eyes.
social interaction through facebook is meaningless
But how?
My personal observations would justify it in my eyes.
Personal observations don't count for jack shit unless people are seeing the same thing as you. We aren't seeing the same thing as you.
[editline]7th August 2012[/editline]
But how?
For all you know, it could be some stranger that fabricated a profile and the person you thought you were chatting with isn't real.
Personal observations don't count for jack shit unless people are seeing the same thing as you. We aren't seeing the same thing as you.
Yes, you're somehow seeing non-Facebookers as more social. I don't know how you're observing that, but I'll let you pretend it.
There's a reason I said "in my eyes" - I was aware of the limitations of the extent of the impact of MY observations.
For all you know, it could be some stranger that fabricated a profile and the person you thought you were chatting with isn't real.
But that's why you add people you know not just some random person you searched up.
But how?
poking people on facebook isn't meaningful in any way. using facebook does not make you social. there are plenty of shut-ins and socially awkward losers who use facebook constantly
turning down somebody's application because they don't have a facebook account is asinine. a freak with a facebook account is still a freak
It should not be an employer's concern because of desire to track the employee, that is unethical.
HOH because everyone knows that employers the world over are ethical
I don't use Facebook because I don't have any friends. Am I supposed to pretend I do now?
Right, nobody is complaining about facebook because people occasionally post stupid shit on it

Okay, one person. I missed that. Why spend the last page using your power of run on sentences to attack a point no one else cares about?
lmao you're just going on banal shit no one in the real world cares about
you're also in no position to make statements like this:

Exactly the kinda responses I was expecting, people completely ignoring every point and just going "no one cares we're right". As for my magical ability to factor people, it seems pretty obvious from personal experience, and usage statistics. Facebook has almost triple the entire population of the US in monthly active users (according to the US census for the population estimate, july 2011 so a bit dated). There are very few people at least in the western world who don't use it and aren't over the age of ~40.
HOH because everyone knows that employers the world over are ethical
I know, if only.
a freak with a facebook account is still a freak
And a non-freak without a Facebook account is still a non-freak.
