Not being on Facebook is 'suspicious' - most likely insane or a mass murderer

It's okay guys! There are exceptions to the rules!
Exactly the kinda responses I was expecting, people completely ignoring every point and just going "no one cares we're right". As for my magical ability to factor people, it seems pretty obvious from personal experience, and usage statistics. Facebook has almost triple the entire population of the US in monthly active users (according to the US census for the population estimate, july 2011 so a bit dated). There are very few people at least in the western world who don't use it and aren't over the age of ~40.
you're arguing for an western-centric article that has an obvious bias towards certain details
lol

why are you being so rude
poking people on facebook isn't meaningful in any way. using facebook does not make you social. there are plenty of shut-ins and socially awkward losers who use facebook constantly
Poking is optional. How does using Facebook not make you more social? You are chatting and you are sharing isn't that what being social is?
Poking is optional. How does using Facebook not make you more social? You are chatting and you are sharing isn't that what being social is?
that's social interaction on the most basic level, which doesn't mean anything in the real world

this guy may be "social" but he has no social grace
I've never poked anyone on Facebook.

Explain the shut-in teenagers. If one of them was depressed, Facebook wouldn't cure it, it'd make the problem worse.

You can use Facebook to be a massive creep and stalk people. You can have a facebook account, play Farmville all day and never interact with anyone. Just having a Facebook account doesn't make you more social. Not having one doesn't make you antisocial. It's a complete fallacy.
Lack of Facebook makes you want to kill people?
I would say that the opposite is true.
Man, Wickedplayer really has a facebook hate fetish doesn't he.
Okay, one person. I missed that. Why spend the last page using your power of run on sentences to attack a point no one else cares about?
Bullshit, there were plenty of people hinting at it saying things like "facebook is just a cesspool of shit", etc. They just didn't make their entire post about it. You can attack me personally all you want but the truth is most people in this thread raging at facebook are raging at it because
A) they don't have enough friends to use it and they feel left out
or
B) they legitimately dislike the site's practices
While I'd totally respect B if the reasons are solid, there doesn't seem to be much of that, mostly just people raging about it with no accurate reasoning for why, it's just a fucking communication site where you can post pictures, message friends, set up events and other things of that nature.
I'd also like to make it clear that I'm not really talking about facebook so much as social networking sites in general such as facebook - it's just the most relevant one because most people use it.
Man, Wickedplayer really has a facebook hate fetish doesn't he.
when you start calling out people who disagree with you in a way that adds nothing at all to the conversation, it's time to stop :)
nah I think I'll kick around a bit more
the idea that an employer should even care about whether or not you have a facebook account is really ridiculous
They might not but just a warning if you're applying for a job, they might snoop around your profile as background check.
What the hell is this bullshit?
Breivik had a damn Facebook, I remember it well.
Explain the shut-in teenagers. If one of them was depressed, Facebook wouldn't cure it, it'd make the problem worse.

it's not
Have or don't have facebook -> friends either obtained or not obtained
it's
friends obtained or not obtained -> get or don't get facebook.
It's like information is observed by your eye and then immediately ignored by your brain, nobody is saying that using facebook automatically makes you a social butterfly, the point most of us are trying to get across is that if you already have friends you're more likely to use facebook, because it's a common (1 billion active users common) way for friends to communicate.
Doesn't Christian Weston Chandler have a Facebook?
Man, Wickedplayer really has a facebook hate fetish doesn't he.
Though there is some validity to me hating Facebook, that's just sick.
Oh fuck now what is this shit?
I don't use fucking Facebook, so therefore I'm insane? Or a murderer? This is getting tedious.
Ew, dailymail.
Though there is some validity to me hating Facebook, that's just sick.
Oh wah, the sarcastic implication of a fetish just is the most nauseating thing to be found on Facepunch isn't it.

Yes, but if someone that was depressed that didn't have many friends, Facebook would make the problem even worse once word gets out that said person has an account.
The best part is when people on fp think they can not only point out someone as antisocial but then imply that it's somehow bad and that there is an ideal
Oh fuck now what is this shit?

you know what else is tedious?
People who turn the article's proposal of a correlation into an absolute rule
Oh wah, the sarcastic implication of a fetish just is the most nauseating thing to be found on Facepunch isn't it.
I knew it was sarcastic.

WOAH! Okay, first, my comment on your run on sentences wasn't a personal attack, calm your tits. Second, you seem to be imposing how you think people would react onto how they actually are reacting. Most posts in the thread 'against' this article are pointing out that you don't need Facebook to be social, not that Facebook is the boogyman.
You also are being a HUGE dick for no apparent reason. "A) they don't have enough friends to use it and they feel left out" not once has this been a factor in anything, you're just insulting people to feel superior. Stop that. "B) they legitimately dislike the site's practices" I'm sure this is a reason plenty of people don't use facebook, but again, most posts are against the article in the OP NOT Facebook itself.
Sure some people are saying it mostly has stupid bullshit, and it does, but they aren't raging. They're just giving reasons as to why they personally avoid Facebook.
You seem to have come into this thread very aggressive, maybe you should calm down.

you're hardly a savory or level-headed person

Read the Forbes article instead. That one makes some sense at least (link also in OP)
DailyMail just hiked up the Forbes article.
Yes, but if someone that was depressed that didn't have many friends, Facebook would make the problem even worse once word gets out that said person has an account.
That's arguable, and I would agree facebook can make people feel left out if they try to be a part of it when they don't have friends. I'm not trying to say facebook is perfect here though - just that it's getting an unnecessarily bad rep for the wrong reasons.
Okay well Hitler also pooped on a regular basis, that doesn't mean everyone who poops is a mass murderer.
Don't tell me you're trying to justify pooping on a regular basis.
I poop very irregularly, thank you very much
