Not being on Facebook is 'suspicious' - most likely insane or a mass murderer

Ask social people at school if they use Facebook. Then ask nerds and obviously antisocial people.[/QUOTE]
another example of why we need an "asshole" rating
Okay, sorry, you don't use Facebook and I make you feel bad.
[QUOTE=Janus Vesta;37125668]WOAH! Okay, first, my comment on your run on sentences wasn't a personal attack, calm your tits. Second, you seem to be imposing how you think people would react onto how they actually are reacting. Most posts in the thread 'against' this article are pointing out that you don't need Facebook to be social, not that Facebook is the boogyman.[/QUOTE]
Those I would agree with, the article does take this to quite an extreme although I do believe there's some truth to a connection between anti-social behaviour and ignoring social networking, it's almost comical to jump to the conclusion that they're dangerous.
[QUOTE=Janus Vesta;37125668]You also are being a HUGE dick for no apparent reason. "A) they don't have enough friends to use it and they feel left out" not once has this been a factor in anything, you're just insulting people to feel superior. Stop that. "B) they legitimately dislike the site's practices" I'm sure this is a reason plenty of people don't use facebook, but again, [b]most posts are against the article in the OP NOT Facebook itself.[/b][/QUOTE]
So you honestly believe that nobody in the history of the world has been angry at facebook because they lacked friends and it was just another thing they couldn't be a part of? Plus the straw man about me trying to feel superior is pretty obnoxious and ridiculous. Have you considered that maybe at a point in my life I felt similar about something else, and I empathise with those people?
[QUOTE=Janus Vesta;37125668]Sure some people are saying it mostly has stupid bullshit, and it does, but they aren't raging. They're just giving reasons as to why they personally avoid Facebook.
You seem to have come into this thread very aggressive, maybe you should calm down.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, you can tell I'm just dripping with rage in posts like these
[QUOTE=Elspin]That's arguable, and I would agree facebook can make people feel left out if they try to be a part of it when they don't have friends. I'm not trying to say facebook is perfect here though - just that it's getting an unnecessarily bad rep for the wrong reasons.[/QUOTE]
I find it really awkward to read posts like this because it almost seems like you're imagining me being really mad from reading your excellent well thought out posts, when in reality they just seem like awkward jabs to me
What bullshit. What absolute bullshit. I don't use such sites and I'm no mass murderer or looney. I just value my fucking privacy.
[QUOTE=Elecbullet;37125869]Okay, sorry, you don't use Facebook and I make you feel bad.[/QUOTE]
no i use facebook, but others, who may be as immature as to label people as nerds or anti social (such as yourself) or not; don't use facebook for other reasons.
maybe for the same reasons you no longer play games on steam perhaps?

Such as:
1. Privacy
2. Stupidity of most of Facebook's users
3. Because they think another service is better
[QUOTE=Ownederd;37125689]you're hardly a savory or level-headed person[/QUOTE]
Right. I'm working in higher education to better myself and improve the world, I donate to charity, I try hard to be a good friend to everybody to know, I advocate civil rights and respect for other races, I volunteer when I can... but fuck, thinking facebook is a decent platform for organizing social relations? I might as well be hitler. I poop sometimes too, and I hear he did that (I also had a few dogs, tell nobody)
In that case, [B]'increasing numbers of employers, and even some psychologists'[/B] are amongst the people I would not like to voluntarily associate with at all.

I'd just give them the middle finger, silently rip up whatever I was reading and/or signing, and walk out.

Really? Most of their users?
I've seen dumb shit on Facebook. Most of it from my sister, or from ONE friend that I added and puts Adalia Rose and other crap on my wall.
You might think that this minority ruins Facebook, and it is annoying, but when you insist that the majority of Facebook's users are dumb, since Facebook users are such a big section of the population, you reflect very negatively on the population as a whole, and calling vast sections of the population stupid is one way to look [I]pretty damn antisocial.[/I]
I live in the Bible Belt, Alabama. I won't even say that about my surrounding populace.

Don't you get it? You add people you know if the people you know are posting stupid shit then you know some pretty crappy people.

There's still ~6 billion people that are sane and don't have a Facebook account or use a service that is better in their opinion.
It just goes to show that society is fucked if we don't do something, regardless of if anyone views it as a majority or a minority.
Yes, like I could remove the one girl who shits on my wall. I am not however bothered enough to do so.

Being social by definition is to socialize with people, not hold any one opinion of them. anyways to say most of the population on facebook, the world, and your "bible belt" are or act stupidly would probably be accurate.

I don't want to know that in 5 years if (and most likely will) Facebook goes down the MySpace route that I was a part of some dumb cult. That'd be embarrassing to anyone that was ever on it.

Stop with this shit 6 billion argument. You get to include the Africans and the Chinese and all the other poor people who have no access to Facebook or at the least no way to use a website in the English language.
You can't make Facebook look like the extreme minority. [url=http://mashable.com/2011/02/24/facebook-twitter-number/]Half of Americans use Facebook[/url], and the ones that don't are more likely to be old men and women you wouldn't want to socialize with anyway at your age.

apparently non-whites aren't social creatures, who knew

Being anti-social is a bad thing how? Not everyone needs to be a socialite. There's nothing wrong with someone who has a handful of close friends, family, a significant other, and otherwise doesn't exist as far as the rest of the world is concerned.
[quote]I live in the Bible Belt, Alabama. I won't even say that about my surrounding populace. [/quote]
I live in mid TN and I [i]would[/i] say that. Just watch the roadways when it snows if you want proof. Dumb bastards drive faster the slipperier it is!

Your posts have gone from occasionally sensible to so far off the deep end. You're actually trying to suggest that using a facebook account to message your friends makes you a lunatic? Your post is actually even dumber than the article in the OP, at least it had an atom sized portion of restraint using the word "signs" instead of just going ahead and saying "if you don't have facebook you're a serial killer".
Haha what?
The majority of the world does not use Facebook, but not by choice. It's completely fallacious to use that statistic in that way.

what does it matter how many people use facebook?

You can believe that openly being antisocial is a good idea, I can believe that openly being antisocial is pretty shitty.
[QUOTE=wickedplayer494;37126036]I don't want to know that in 5 years if (and most likely will) Facebook goes down the MySpace route that I was a part of some dumb cult. That'd be embarrassing to anyone that was ever on it.[/QUOTE]
How is it a cult? It's a website to talk to friends! If it goes under then ok whatever no one will care no one will think that you were in a cult.
[QUOTE=SIRIUS;37126113]what does it matter how many people use facebook?[/QUOTE]
A main reason why someone should use Facebook is because other people do: that is the main factor that determines the usefulness of a social network.
By using that shit statistic, he is trying fallaciously to undermine the argument for the usefulness of Facebook.

Key words: majority of
There are the sane ones that put up with this crap. They are the minority in my perspective.
[QUOTE=Elspin;37125880]Those I would agree with, the article does take this to quite an extreme although I do believe there's some truth to a connection between anti-social behaviour and ignoring social networking, it's almost comical to jump to the conclusion that they're dangerous.[/QUOTE]
Yes, being antisocial means you are more likely to not have a Facebook account, it does not mean having a Facebook account makes you more social or lacking a Facebook account makes you antisocial. I think we can agree on that, yes?
[QUOTE=Elspin;37125880]So you honestly believe that nobody in the history of the world has been angry at facebook because they lacked friends and it was just another thing they couldn't be a part of? This isn't about anybody in history having a problem with facebook because they have no friends. It's about people in this thread, who you said must not have friends because they lack Facebook accounts. Even if you didn't intend that, that is how it came across. How you worded it didn't seem empathetic, it seemed insulting.
[QUOTE=Elspin;37125880]Yeah, you can tell I'm just dripping with rage in posts like these[/QUOTE]
I didn't say rage, I said aggression. You don't have to post in all caps with incomprehensible grammar and spelling to be aggressive. How you're wording things, saying people have no friends, claiming the entire thread is "raging" when there's only a couple of contentious posters* makes you seem aggressive.
*I'm one of those posters by the way, not imagining I'm somehow superior to anyone here.
[QUOTE=Elspin;37125880]I find it really awkward to read posts like this because it almost seems like you're imagining me being really mad from reading your excellent well thought out posts, when in reality they just seem like awkward jabs to me[/QUOTE]
Was that bit in the quote tags you quoting yourself or did something wierd happen when you're posting? I'm honestly not sure. Either way, I don't think you're getting mad at my "excellent well thought out posts", I just think you came into the thread with a mindset of 'people are going to be ripping on Facebook for retarded reasons' and were preemptively ready for an arguement. I mean I can't blame you look at what section we're posting in. I just think you need to see that to others you could come off as aggressive and it has caused unnecessary arguement.
Also, I only made one jab, and that was at your lack of punctuation, which also made a couple of you posts hard to follow. I didn't mean it as an attack on you as a person.
[QUOTE=Elecbullet;37126116]You can believe that openly being antisocial is a bad idea, I can believe that openly being antisocial is pretty shitty.[/QUOTE]
....what? That says the same exact thing twice.
[QUOTE=Doctor Zedacon;37123997]Its not that they necessarily consider it a bad thing. The problem is, it means that your employer loses a very effective means of keeping track of you. If you have a Facebook profile, they can use that to see what you say, where you go, what you do. So if someone comes along without a Facebook account, they lose an otherwise plentiful source of information.[/QUOTE]
My profile is private and I'm not about to add an employer on facebook, does that count as not having one in their eyes?

Whoops, I used the wrong word. Revised:
You can believe that openly being antisocial is a good idea, I can believe that openly being antisocial is pretty shitty.
