• PC Gaming being "held back" by Consoles says Crytek Boss

All the arguments about games being laggier and unoptimized pieces of shits on PC and being awesome on Xbox is because those games were fucking dumbed down so that they would play on Xbox you fucking idiots.
I'll leave this here.
I'll leave this here. [img_thumb]http://i56.tinypic.com/2qlskt4.jpg[/img_thumb]
I wonder how much the PC that they used to show that cost. Everybody KNOWS that PCs are more powerful that consoles, but to get that sort of power a large amount of money has to be spent. It's like cars, the more expensive the car then generally the better it is. Also, is it just me or is the PC part of that GIF actually lagging pretty badly in comparison to the Xbox and the PS3 parts. The people walking past in the reflection on the PC version seem a bit laggy. Yeah it is, it even stutters for a second near the end, you can see the people in the reflection stop moving.
You know that applies to almost anything
Yeah, but people are going around getting really argumentative about how consoles will never be able to run Crysis as well as a PC could, and it's pretty damn obvious considering the costs. With a PC, the quality of your gaming experience pretty much depends on how powerful your computer is. Shitty PCs will play games in a shit way. With the Xbox, while it may not be as good as some PCs are, all Xboxes give out the same performance for quite a good price. Some PCs are better than the Xbox, some are worse.
there's no such thing as being designed for consoles. GTA IV's "under-optimization" is exaggerated.
Actually yes there is. If your main aim is consoles, the engine/game will be made to utilize hardware of that particular console. It's called optimization. In this case, for consoles.
lol where are you getting these measurements from. most of the ram in the game goes towards textures FYI and that makes sense considering there's about 10GB's of texture data
Textures are loaded into video ram. On pc atleast. And these 10gb of texture data is not loaded into memory at the same time. If it did, xbox would die a painful death because even the dvd disc can barely handle so much data
GTA IV doesn't have this feature.
Because no one bothered to optimize it for pc to utilize pc's hardware.
consoles feature much more flexible pipelines than PC graphics cards. when you play PC games the sad fact is that your cards are brutally underutilized. nvidia and amd want you to buy graphics cards as often as possible
They're only as underutilized as you program your game to be. I know, I actually work in game development, nothing big, just an indie, but I am aware of how most stuff on consoles and pcs work.
Xbox's also hold PS3s back.
Actually, you don't even have to spend that much money, just know a couple of good friends and their friends and you can get a decent rig to start from with 50€ or even less, because that's just how it went with mine
We're talking retail prices here, not freebies or bargains from friends. If we're going off that logic I could get an Xbox 360 for £20 from a friend who desperately needed the cash, or maybe I'd find one on the floor outside randomly. For pure gaming performance, at the retail price of £150 the Xbox 360 really is the best available option.
Did you even play it?
no never i especially didn't play to the part where it got all snowy and annoying
PC gaming is just typically too expediencies for normal people. Id rather buy a new xbox and know It will play every game that comes out for it without having to upgrade it every year.
I got my computer 3 years ago and it plays modern games just fine.
I got my pc a year ago and it playes crisis on high for 550$. edit how can you disagree with an action that i did? do you not believe i bought it for that price or do you disagree with my action of doing it?
meh ill stick to old console gaming
Games should be PC version ported to consoles, not XBox 360 version ported to PC and other consoles, since half of the time PS3 version is worse, and Wii... It's Wii.
I got my computer 3 years ago and it plays modern games just fine.
I got my console 3 years ago and it plays modern games just fine too, what's your point?

Wasn't there something with Left 4 Dead 2, where on the PC if you look down you can't (or couldn't) see your own legs but on the Xbox you can?
I got my console 3 years ago and it plays modern games just fine too, what's your point?
Your console plays modern games fine because they haven't changed all that much from 2007 to 2010 While on PC they have changed a great deal generally
no it was made for pc version first cause valve loves pcs, its also why the graphics are so bad for the xbox version
Strange, I seem to remember the Xbox 360 demo of the game having a few things, the ability to see your legs when you look down, that the PC version didn't have due to an issue with it. If the game was made for the PC entirely then why did that happen? [editline]27th November 2010[/editline]
Your console plays modern games fine because they haven't changed all that much from 2007 to 2010 While on PC they have changed a great deal generally
Look at the games that were around when the 360 came out and the games that are out now. Gears of War 2 looks much nicer than the first one. Although I do remember reading somewhere that the 360 has almost had all of it's potential used up as far as graphics go.
Your console plays modern games fine because they haven't changed all that much from 2007 to 2010 While on PC they have changed a great deal generally
But I get actually fun games.

I'm just saying that just because consoles sell better doesn't mean that the game should suck on anything that's not XBox 360.

I'm just saying that just because consoles sell better doesn't mean that the game should suck on anything that's not XBox 360.
Yeah I agree with you totally, it pisses me off that some of these 'ports' can even pass quality control, but I guess companies follow the cash mainly. Valve are a good company, and I like them. I have no problem with them, and I don't think I've ever had any major issue with any of their games.
Your console plays modern games fine because they haven't changed all that much from 2007 to 2010 While on PC they have changed a great deal generally
But because of consoles we get bad ports. If it was PC ported to consoles, we'd have better games.
But I get actually fun games.
not to mention map packs were free for the pc version
not to mention map packs were free for the pc version
If you're talking about Valve, it's because of Microsoft's rules. A game like LBP wouldn't live in 360, with billions of DLC content.
This argument is going majorly off topic. The point of this thread was that consoles are holding back pc games, which is pretty much true. The argument over which is better boils down to personal choice. Personally, I think that PCs are better than consoles, but for the price you can't beat the consoles.
