Some of the main reasons why I like consoles more than PCs these days You can instantly put in a CD that you just bought from a store and play. You can rent games for a week instead of having to buy them / play a 30 minutes demo Easier to pick up and play I don't have to search for new parts every few years to make sure I can run the games well A few years ago when I wasn't working 70+ hours a week, I preferred PC gaming. But now when you're short on free time, I don't really like having to go through that extra hassle when I could just put the disc in and be playing with my friends in less than 2 minutes
Steam? IT was a suggestion.
Steam?
Steam solves none of those problems except it kinda takes out the mention of CD
Steam?
Still can't buy a game and instantly play it Can't rent the games And I still have to look for parts to upgrade my PC to have games run smoothly You answered none of my 4 main problems with PC gaming
But it replaces CD with (depending on internet speed) a long ass download time
Steam?
God forbid if your internet isn't very good. The 6gb games will take a while to download.
God forbid if your internet isn't very good. The 6gb games will take a while to download.
Sometimes they're even bigger!
But it replaces CD with (depending on internet speed) a long ass download time
Exactly. So instead of driving to the store, buying the CD, then coming back and installing it (and possibly and patches / drivers / whatever else I'd need to install to run it), I now have to download it first. I agree completely with the fact that playing games on PC is better than consoles. My problems are regarding TIME. I find consoles more convenient and easier than PCs, and people need to understand that not everyone has enough time for PC gaming
PC gaming is much more complicated compared to consoles, that's for sure. Hence why consoles are more popular. People use what's easier, not what's newer.

It depends blah blah blah

It depends blah blah blah
I agree that it's easier to download it and install it on steam instead of driving to the store and buying the CD and trying to put in 3 CDs to install the game, and to be honest for the last few years I haven't bought a single disc for a PC game because of that. If there's a popular game that I know i'll play a lot, I usually will buy it on PC. But if there's a game that I know i'll only play for X number of hours before I get bored I either go and buy it if it's cheap or rent it and play it right away instead of waiting for it to download and install.
There is no way it can take a lot less time. And as he said, you can't resell or trade pc games.
Meh, I guess you're right actually, I was thinking of an ungodly speed as my base.
Meh, I guess you're right actually, I was thinking of an ungodly speed as my base.
Well if you live in a secluded area it can take more time and cost more to drive to a store and buy it anyways, so you're not wrong in saying that it could possibly take less time.
Still can't buy a game and instantly play it Can't rent the games And I still have to look for parts to upgrade my PC to have games run smoothly You answered none of my 4 main problems with PC gaming
I've been playing older games forever, I'm a mix but I mainly got the PS3 for its exclusives more than anything else and even then I have to wait for an install there. One thing PC games have that consoles don't are mods. Games like Fallout 3 and Half Life 2 have A LOT OF MODS. Its one massive community that adds on an untold sum of extra value to the games and keeps them valid even to this day. There are still mods being made on the Gold Source Engine. And hell, a lot of games and mod developers make installation of mods easy. And I have to say this now, I've notice after playing FO3 and New Vegas on my PS3 and then on replaying FO3 on computer....they were almost identical and my graphics card is out of date.
Mods are a big factor. And that's why I said before that if I know i'm going to be playing a game a lot, 99% of the time i'll buy it for PC. That's why I'd say i'm a 70-30 for Console - PC gaming. I play most games on my console, but for the few games that I know will be good and I know i'll put lots of hours in when I can, i'll buy it on PC

Again, I'm a mix. I have both a PS3 I play heavily and PC I play on heavily. There are some Steam purchases I wish I could give back but its in the past really and has actually helped me be more thrifty. There are also a few PS3 games I wish I just rented instead of bought new and lose half the price on. But for the most part, once I get a game, I keep it and cherish it forever. They're my really fucking expensive baseball cards. What I wanna see if there are any games that can go up against Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2, that game was fucking gorgeous. IF that's how console games are holding PC games back, then I like it.
I only play consoles for a few reasons. 1) They're cheaper 2) All my friends play on them 3) It's far more relaxing to kick back on the couch/beanbag and play with your friends vs sitting in your chair and playing alone in your room 4) It's cheaper?
And hell, a lot of games and mod developers make installation of mods easy. The only thing that sets some PS3 exclusives apart, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MGS4, is that the resource management is tailored and the art style is tailored to look better with what they've got rather than look great over all. Side by side comparisons will leave the ps3 dead (and 360).
3) It's far more relaxing to kick back on the couch/beanbag and play with your friends vs sitting in your chair and playing alone in your room
You obviously haven't been to a LAN party or have a room mate. My room mate and I haven partaken in epic Killingfloor binges on the same server.
You obviously haven't been to a LAN party or have a room mate. My room mate and I haven partaken in epic Killingfloor binges on the same server.
I have. And I still say it's more relaxing to just turn on the 360 and play on the big screens. I'm not saying LAN parties aren't fun or anything.
You obviously haven't been to a LAN party or have a room mate. Really inconvenient when you don't need to do that with a console. As for roommates, no I never had one and I bet most people do not have one either.
I feel so out of place here. I'm a console gamer... I just like this Forum.
I feel so out of place here. I'm a console gamer... I just like this Forum.
You're not out of place, a lot of people don't want to scrap the cash for Gaming PCs. Which is understandable...I borrow old pieces tech friends don't use who are loaded so they update often. I brought my gaming laptop and had a lot of fun.
Consoles ARE fun, they're great fun to play with friends and just play in general. They may have limited graphics capabilities, but who gives a flying fuck? A game is a game, and fun is fun no matter how good it looks!

While sure its easier, once the next generation is up, unless you can keep the old gal running, all those games go bye bye. PC games can be updated, fixed, hacked, cracked and can last forever. Just look at GOG.com Hell I'm playing Ur-Quan Masters right now, and then I could go play the original C&C, and that's what people seem to forget with consoles. Remember Spyro? Or CTR (Crash Team Racing)? You wanna play those....well your shit outta luck, unless you wanna fork over 10 bucks for it to go out of date in the next generation. Sure computer video cards can be expensive but that doesn't mean once you've upgraded you can't play the older games.

Portal works on my Mac though. But I'm not really into gaming that much anymore. Just waiting for Portal 2.
Laptop? I brought my gaming laptop and had a lot of fun.
For the price of a gaming laptop I could get like 4 consoles.
For the price of a gaming laptop I could get like 4 consoles.
Fair enough.
The PC itself is evolving into a console. More and more people have their PC's integrated into their multimedia networks. Eventually, a single PC will replace your DVD player, your HIFI set and you gaming console. The PC will become the core of your entertainment system. With services much like Steam and Spotify, we will all download our music, movies and games directly onto our Entertainment Centers. The PC is the future. Consoles are holding back the progress of multimedia systems.
