Well any sport that goes through a school in the US requires a physical. Obivously doctors listen to your heart, but in my friends case. His heart beat sounded fine, however stress + combined with adrenaline/endocrine rushes would cause his heart to stop. My friend was found dead on the side of the road, a lady gave him CPR and he came back but died 2 more times in the hospital. Now he thinks he's the second coming of Jesus and devoted his life to God :/ (I can't even cuss around the guy anymore, and he used to smoke/drink with me)
Marathons are actually bad for you. Running is good for you, but marathons are just too much, they do more long term damage than they're worth.
Marathons are okay as long as you pace yourself and give your body what it needs. It take years of training and proper nutrition to reach the levels of fitness those that finish the marathon in the top 10. It still deteriorates certain parts of the body and they know this. Knee's especially, so if anyone wants to go jogging, as a cross country runner, talk to someone who knows the best shoe's for your feet to absorb as much shock as possible when you run on anything other than dirt/grass. Concrete fucks up your knee's over long periods of time if you run on it, could find yourself with serious medical problems 30+ years down the line.
I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and have been advised not to participate in marathons and the like. I only know I have this because my dad has it and I have been thoroughly tested for years, but there are people who don't even know they have it. So yeah, I assume this guy unknowingly had some kind of heart problem.
Uhm no, what made us human was running. We can travel on land, for long distances much longer than any other mammal. Evolutionarily you can see this from our upright pelvises, and our sweat system allows for cooling of our body. Early humans where pack hunters who chased their prey down for miles in the hot African savannah, until the animal died of heatstroke.
Uh not really.
We happen to be quite well suited at running, it doesn't mean humans were ~DESIGNED FOR RUNNING~ like so many endurance running websites like to circle jerk to the idea of. It didn't "make us human"
Persistence running is a popular theory among running advocates (gee who would've guessed) but its a woefully inefficient and dumb method of hunting, especially by an animal (us) that knows how to use complex tools, and is still relatively efficient/strong in anaerobic bursts.
Between this and the breaking story of the explosion in Boston, jogging is getting to be too dangerous. Im buying a segway.
First they tell me running is healthy. Now, people running are dying left and right. What is a fat guy to do?

You could try p90x
What is healthy these days? Even running a marathon is not making you healthy, and i've just read that doing exercises is healthy and to prevent heart diseases etc. These stuff just makes me frightening if you think about it. Your just doing something healthy and you die. But ofcourse there is no information how he lived. So maybe he had an unhealthy life?
I've heard so many things from so many people I honestly don't know what is true. I've been told that effective exercise means pushing yourself to your limit, but I've also been told walking around for 30 minutes is better than running. I've been told that a diet of only cold cuts and vegetables will make you lose weight so fast your skin won't adapt, and I've been told that you need to eat some of everything. It seems the only "fact" is that overeating junkfood and doing nothing all day will make you fat, yet there's people on this very forum who do that and complain about being underweight. Goddamn human health is difficult..

Nothing is true.

Everything is permitted.

When it comes to diet and shit, this is what I believe. Hell, I used to be that skinny kid too until I got thrown on meds, those decimated my metabolism. Fucking hate medication for that.
What meds?
Honestly I don't remember, I must've been on a dozen different kinds over the years (sometime several at the same time), I know the ever so popular Ritalin was one of them. There was one that came in the form of a small purple pill, circular and about 1cm wide with black text stamped on it. Another was similar but half the size and white, had to take 2 of those, it tasted terrible. There was also a white (I think?) capsule type pill I had to take at one point, and I think I took some yellow pills with that one. Beyond that I can't remember any details on them or the others.
Hmm, Ritalin should make you lose weight. It acts like a weak cocaine, but without knowing the others, no clue. If you were still in any of them, sometimes docs will prescribe meds for the side effects of other meds.
Hmm, pills that make you gain weight... I'd say you were on birth control.

Nah, I was off all of it as soon as I was legally allowed to make that call.
That's quite the unfortunate title.
Well it was quite unfortunate all in all.

Are you me?

Antipsychotics cause rapid weight gain
Antipsychotics cause rapid weight gain
I'm not sure why I would have been on that other than the fact that I was just a really asshole kid, but then fuck if I know. Back then I just took whatever they gave me because without question because obviously my doctor and parents know best.
Some docs prescribe them for anxiety before exhausting much better options. Also, they could have been given to you to make you more controllable. Also, your doc might have assumed you were violent.
