Donald Trump tells Theresa May he won't visit the UK unless she bans protests

I don't think May's gonna risk her already reduced majority and somewhat unstable position in government on sucking up to Trump.

This makes sense, but I'm still not so sure.
The UK is getting pretty desperate for friends right now considering we shit the bed with most of europe. add to that their antics during the snap election where it almost looked like the Tories were trying to lose with some of the unpopular shit they pulled (setting their sights on the elderly- their biggest supporters, dragging up fox hunting bullshit (again), scrapping school meals for children).
I'm willing to believe a lot of them are so out of touch that it really wouldn't occur to them that they were about to make an unpopular move.

I still don't get the Trump supporter mentality.
A lot of them base their entire political outlook on ~upsetting the easily offended liberals with their godamn safe spaces!!!!~ and yet they adore some frail old man who calls off political visits because he's worried he will be criticised if he leaves his safe space.
Does ~being offended~ only become a negative trait to the right when you actually care about important social justice and human rights issues? whereas being a massive baby is fine so long as it's motivated by a good old fashioned inflated ego and an incredibly thin skin?
i wonder how donny's gunna take this rebuff from T-may
i don't really recall any negative tweets from trump about theresa may so who knows, maybe we'll get one in the coming days

Most of our government hates you, laddo. Stop asking them to compromise their few remaining principles for you. Never going to happen.

Yeah he tweeted a random woman in my town lol
It's weird imagining may as the rational figure in a situation. Having to explain there was little she could do is uh, hilarious

that's not him. trump doesn't use periods and proper oxford commas

It's not only about her position within the government, it's also about her reputation on the international podium. Merkel's international reputation took a very noticeable hit when there was widespread rioting during the G20 in Hamburg last year. Which happened without the police preemptively cracking down. It showed that despite the media claiming that she could be the next leader of the free western world, that Merkel let things go completely get out of hand while the most influential people in the world were visiting her. I haven't seen articles claiming that she could be the next leader of the free western world afterwards.
Still, it's not impossible to have Trump visiting a Western European country without riots breaking out, as he did have a state meeting with France's Macron during Bastille Day last year without any noticeable public rioting happening. It just kept at public protests there and there, but not an eruption into a riot anywhere. The thing is, I don't see May and London's Khan being able to get their shit in order to prevent riots from breaking out. It's not the usual protests that would bother Trump that much, it's more the risk of things escalating into widespread riots or worse. And given how London had quite a lot of ''part and parcel'' moments in the last few years, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump ends up not visiting London anytime soon. And why should he? The UK isn't that crucial for America right now, and Trump doesn't seem to mind if he has to settle for Macron's France instead of the UK.

Except for all the evidence that we have that protests do bother Trump quite a bit. Also stop spinning, the article has nothing to do with G20, Merkel, or riots. Trump asked another country to suspend it's right to assemble so he can visit without being ridiculed.
After holding bilateral talks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump and May spoke about their "special relationship".
"We love your country," said the president.
"We're on the same wavelength in every respect. The prime minister and myself have had a really great relationship, although some people don't necessarily believe that, but I can tell you, I have a tremendous respect for the prime minister and the job she's doing.
"I think the feeling is mutual from the standpoint of liking each other a lot. There was a little false rumour out there. I wanted to correct it," he added.
The president said that they were working on trade deals which is a priority for May as the Brexit process continues.
He also said that "we are very much joined at the hip when it comes to the military" adding that the US was ready "to fight for you" [the UK].
Asked by reporters in Switzerland about the ongoing dispute of a possible state visit, Trump and May said "we'll talk about that."

What did he mean by this ?

Do you actually believe this or...?

Is "There's a Trump tweet for everything" the political equivalent of "there's a Simpson's GIF for everything?"

With how active he is on twitter, probably.
It's amusing to me how chaos seems to precede, surround trump, and persist long after he has left. Then people like Jordax and hannity try to retroactively justify Trump's actions as good.

I think it's more of the "xkcd: Always relevant" of the political world.
Does he not realize that freedom of expression is a tenet of his own country as well as theirs? Obviously the potus is the most important person in the US and as such he has the most important feelings.
