God damn that video is fucking orgasmic. Those sounds hnnnnnng.
I know right, it's fucking unreal. When you're watching this shit on tv, they don't look like they're doing 200. Then you see videos like this and it's just a symphony of pissed off v8's, and in this case a shrapnel going fucking everywhere. [editline]6th July 2015[/editline]

This shit plays out like an action movie. The lead up and silence before the crash is stressful to watch. The sound it makes is fucking horrific. It's unbelievable the guy just... walked out of that wreck. Even 30 years ago, race cars were death traps.
Here's a comprehensive article about the many safety features of NASCAR cars. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-racing/nascar/nascar-basics/nascar-safety1.htm
I want to dedicate this post to Dale Earnhardt, he was probably my second favorite driver when I was a kid. I was sad when he died, and I'm glad they kept up on safety since I've stopped watching Nascar.
Since we're on the topic of crashes that would mean death in a normal car but you can walk away from in a race-spec car Other angles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCCNNpmt8ds
I'm sorry
I can't believe people watch these movies.
Its crazy some of the accidents that happen that people walk away from. For example, take Robert Kubica's crash in Canada in 07 The fact that he almost got up and walked away from this is just a testament to the technological advancements. On the flip side though, there are some minor accidents that happen that drivers don't walk away from. So there is a lot to go still.
Bad looking crashes are usually the safest, all that carbon shrapnel which is designed to splinter means energy is taken away and doesnt compromise the driver area. When you get very rigid, heavy bodied cars like old American cars, that's when you get fucked up
This was Dale Earnhardt Jr's reaction to the crash as he saw it in his rear view mirror when taking the win, you could see in his post race interview he was really shook up about it and said he was in near tears. Also from hearing from alot of other drivers said that they expected the worst. finish is around 2:40
Back to how strong these cars are, Here's another one that happened in Bristol (Same track as the last video I linked) God. Dayum. You can see the steering wheel sticking out on the left as the first guys approach
Like I said, I never would want to see some of these old crashes come back.
Like I said, I never would want to see some of these old crashes come back.
Jesus that second to last one everything just fucking starts burning
I myself have been in a 100kmh crash on a curve thanks to some fucked engineering from the Buen Ayre Company which oversees and administers the highway from my place to the Panamericana. My car went angled at 45º against the side rail, hit, and made 3 360º all across the highway before landing -Yes, landing, as the motor died and the wheels were completely obliterated- on the right shoulder. What I want to know, is how the fuck these guys will ever drive again. Now whenever I feel the g-force of a turn, no matter how slightly is, I panic, like, my legs go stiff and I feel like I want to scream. Shit. Can't drive around in karts anymore.
