"Would I ever give my life for my children? Definitely." I don't understand. Isn't that pretty much what the mother did? She threw her life away in order to have a child, who is doing fine now.

The author had to overcome great deals of abuse and suffering and managed to get through it, though she's not the rule in these cases, she's the exception. What she is tryng to convey in the article is that her mom instead of trying to fix her life and find stability to raise a child properly, had her and sunk deep into poverty putting herself and her child through great suffering.
I love my mother but I also have a deep solemn respect for my place here on this earth. An infallible devotion and love for yourself is necessary for a fulfilling and happy life. I'm glad my mother chose to have me despite the hardships I face due to consciousness and the frailty of being human. Consciousness is an awesome and terrifying experience, at least from the human perspective.

How society can accept condoms but not condoms is beyond me. Abortion is ok.
My mom said that she had to choose between university or getting married with my dad and having me. She said she happily choose my father and me, and has never regretted it. Sure, she could be leading some big corporation right now but would she be really happy? That's what she always says, and it does make me feel a bit better about myself.
How society can accept condoms but not condoms is beyond me. Abortion is ok.
how society can accept condoms but not condoms is beyond me too actually
I regularly wish some other people have been aborted
Whether or not I was aborted wouldn't make a significant difference in my parents' lives. We did decently until about 2009-ish, then shit started to go down the flusher. Were I never here, they'd only be slightly better off before the crash. I'm just glad I'm here.
People make mistakes
I just recently realized that no matter how big your mistake are, you are the one who always has to pay the bigger price. Most of the time there are more than two ways to fix your mistakes, for the easiest solution having to pay the greatest price.
If Republicans keep on like they are, we're going to hit that over-population problem a lot sooner than people thought. NO PREVENTING PREGNANCY. NO STOPPING IT ONCE IT'S THERE EITHER.
If Republicans keep on like they are, we're going to hit that over-population problem a lot sooner than people thought. NO PREVENTING PREGNANCY. NO STOPPING IT ONCE IT'S THERE EITHER.
I thought you already knew this, but the west isn't where over-population is a problem. If India, China and africa just up and died, world population would get halved. Yet before 1950s, there were never more than 450 Mill humans on this earth at a time. When people fear us sucking the earth dry, they're not kidding. We're 12-14 times more people than we ever were, we're polluting more and killing every other species. Sci-Fi often shows planet-spanning metropolises with only one species. However, Sci-Fi often disregards pollution and recourse scarcity. We're lucky we're even sustained now, let alone in 20 years. What do you guess happens when India, China and Africa has bled dry their parts of the world? They're not just gonna stay put and die nicely. They're gonna start moving towards less populated areas. Short of bombing them all to shit, there's not much to do but hope that living standards go further up, education and happiness increases and contraception gets more widely distributed. Otherwise, we're fucked because unless we can collectively turn off ethics long enough to kill them all off, we're gonna let them kill us off directly or indirectly. This world is heading to shit. everyone knows, yet no one acknowledges it. so slip on that fucking condom. One less baby means one less mouth to feed and one less person to point a shotgun at, when they knock at your door after the resource crisis kicks in.
I don't understand anti-abortion people who use the "you have a good life, would you like if you were aborted instead" argument. Sure I like being alive and stuff but if I was aborted would I care? I mean I would be dead so what is there for me to care then? Happiness comes from experience. Someone who has never left the womb was never happy in the first place. And after you're dead you won't care if you were aborted or not.
Over-population is a myth. Especially here in the United States.
It could still happen, though.
Probably the main reason I don't want kids. Me and my sister pretty much... Well, I wouldn't say ruined, but my mom would be in a much better place if she didn't have us.
Somehow I can empathise. I don't wish I had been aborted, but I would rather have been aborted than have my mother be forced to have me. She was young, still living with her parents, and she wasn't thrilled to find out she was pregnant at all. Still, she chose to keep me without pressure from anybody else and has loved me since I was born. I'm glad, as I would want to have caused her suffering, I'd rather have never been born. I don't think I'd cope with it.
I sorta wish my mom didn't have 4 kids, put such a strain on our family financially, now my parents don't have enough to retire :/
I thought it would be about some horribly mutated freak living in pain 24/7 and cant be put out of its misery I was wrong, it's just some woman trying to get a bunch of feels

Either way you're preventing somebody from becoming conscious. I don't see the difference.
My dad would've been doing Marine Biology in Florida if I wasn't born, he now lives in Dubai.
My dad would've been doing Marine Biology in Florida if I wasn't born, he now lives in Dubai.
sounds cooler imo all those shitty dolphin movies ruined marine biology for me
Population Control is needed. We can start with 9gag.
Would i have been me if she waited? And in what sense? Would i be conscious, but have a different personality? Or would a totally different conscious being be her kid? Being aborted is nothing to wish for. Either you get aborted or you don't. But don't regret.
Sperm doesn't live for a very long time and if you don't have sex or fap it gets expelled during sleep so you'd either be a few days younger or be squirted on the inside of a pair of underpants.
Ask the mom if she wanted to get an abortion, 9 times out of 10 they will say no as they love their kids. Not saying abortion is a terrible thing, but regardless it is the mother's choice and nobody else has a say in it including the kid.
Wait, what about the Dad?
