Last time I went (admittedly was like 5 years ago), we waited for well over 2 hours per ride. Maybe we just picked a bad day.
Sounds like you and your family didn't plan your visit out at all. I'm guessing you went during the summer/a holiday period and didn't have any sort of plan as to what you were going to do and simply got in every line you came across. That and your "over 2 hours per ride" is a ridiculous exaggeration unless the park was at/near capacity. Only a few attractions ever get that bad unless you're there on one of the most crowded days of the year. Tips: Arrive early. If you arrive for rope drop (when the park first opens) you can get considerably more done in your first hour or two than you will be able to for the few hours that follow once everyone else arrives. Do large capacity attractions (shows, things like Pirates of the Caribbean) during the middle of the day when it's most crowded. Do popular attractions in the morning, during parades, during fireworks, and later at night before the park closes. Take advantage of fastpass.
