uhh science =/= space. I advocate scientific progress that can actually be used to do something useful. There is nothing inherently scientific about space, it's just the fact that we know so little about it (because we don't need to know goddamn much at all about it) that makes it seem scientific.
ah, but the secrets to the 5th dimension could lie in space. We could prove the theory of HYPERSPACE in space. Space is a big place with a lot of things in it. Don't just rule it out because the very little we DO see doesn't serve much purpose at present.

With that kind of mentality, nobody should bother going to school, because it's less useful today than getting your ass out to the fields to harvest corn.

It would happen in the same shuttles we had 50 years ago, it would be with the same protocols and the same everything.
Again, what precisely would going to the moon again accomplish? It would happen in the same shuttles we had 50 years ago, it would be with the same protocols and the same everything.
We're pretty much scrapping the space shuttle program, you realize this, right?
We're pretty much scrapping the space shuttle program, you realize this, right?
Yes. I also realize nothing new has been made thus far and going to the moon again would accomplish nothing. It wouldn't pave the way to build an entirely useless moonbase to launch other shitty craft toward the entirely useless mars, either.
What happens if the cure for cancer and or the solution to world hunger is to be found on the moon or Mars, or to be discovered from the technologies that are sure to be developed for such endeavors? What then huh?
What if the solution is on Earth but we diverted all our money to space projects huh? What then, huh? [editline]01:27AM[/editline] Facepunch is full of selfish bastards. "Fuck Africa, I want to go to the moon!"

What then huh?
yes the cure for biological diseases is hiding is just sitting there in a completely foreign and lifeless environment. [editline]08:28PM[/editline] What if we find rape monsters on the moon, WHAT THEN HUH?
What if we find rape monsters on the moon, WHAT THEN HUH?
We get raped. Jesus, the one thread where I agree with Lankist.
No Obama! I want my hard-earned money to spent on a lifeless rock!
I just lost all my respect for my countrys president. Thank's.
I just lost all my respect for my countrys president. Thank's.
yeah he was smart enough to know that spending billions of money to go to a lifeless space rock was a waste of tax payer's money i just lost all respect for him too
yeah he was smart enough to know that spending billions of money to go to a lifeless space rock was a waste of tax payer's money i just lost all respect for him too
Just goes to show you how many little kids there really are on Facepunch. "lol fack da economy let's go to mars, brah"
LOOK, HOW DO YOU NOT WANT TO GO TO SPACE AFTER WATCHING THAT?!?!?!?!
Sigh.... NASA needs more money ASAP, Fuck the military. Typical politicians, always thinking short term... soon we're not going to have anything left on this planet and then we'll be screwed.
Yes fuck the military that is in Iraq and Afghanistan that will probably be slaughtered if we cancel all funding. Or better yet why don't you half assed European nations do something like this that is an advance in technology and exploration instead of leaving it up to America.
LOOK, HOW DO YOU NOT WANT TO GO TO SPACE AFTER WATCHING THAT?!?!?!?!
I WANT TO TO GO SPACE, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO BE SPENDING OUR MONEY ON RIGHT NOW?!?!?!?! /caps
Kinda of a waste, what a shame. Although really, what good does it do to go back to a place we've already been to a bunch of times? Start working on Mars fuckers.

I do agree, the government shouldn't worry about this, especially not now, but the point of science isn't to produce useful applications. If anything, space is only scientific because we don't know anything about it.

We've been living in Earth for centuries, wanting to go up in a space for no reason other than bigger politic penis, and yet, we don't know shit about the deep waters we live on. amazing creatures live in there and can probably contains some bullshit that'll cure stuff. there's a reason why we study starfishes.

Good, first fix the country, then go space exploring.
Those are shit dreams. You're a goddamn lawyer, you not starving is pretty much a foregone conclusion. A space program means that you could sign up to Starfleet or some shit and fly around the motherfucking galaxy.
Wanting the human species to improve as a whole is a shit dream?
What if we find rape monsters on the moon, WHAT THEN HUH?
FOR THE IMPERIUM OF MAN.
*Cough*russia had the first man in space *cough*
russia also had the first dog in space
politicians, always thinking short term... soon we're not going to have anything left on this planet and then we'll be screwed.
Yes and the best way to fix that is to build giant machines that consume literally tons of fuel in a single run and don't actually do anything directly beneficial to a struggling economy.
god dammit obama
Yes and the best way to fix that is to build giant machines that consume literally tons of fuel in a single run and don't actually do anything directly beneficial to a struggling economy.
no your wrong giant machines that consume literally tons of fuel in a single run will instantly cure cancer and diseases, then let us colonize space like Starfleet. my logic is irrefutable, dont try.
oh well lets hope some other nation invests more into space exploration
russia also had the first dog in space
Too bad it died before it came back to Earth
Yeah It also makes you a selfish prick too

Then do please kill yourself.
I like you guys, take these 3 of my finest child soldiers they have served me well
the reason that we need to go to the moon is because of the abundance of helium-3 [editline]07:55PM[/editline] if we can harvest helium 3 from the moon we can provide a much cleaner nuclear fuel, and help the environment
itt: the first time any of us see lankist remotely angry
