I'm irritated by this, but meh, atm there are things more important than space
You know what Lankist sometimes you just need to dream.
I dream about genetic engineered crops ending world hunger, fair and blind justice in all nations and cures to cancer. i do not dream about one day being able to hold a rock.
Good. Space is stupid.
Yeah fuck science, we don't need to learn things. Technological advancements? Who needs that shit? :downs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Galactic Whole lot of nothin happenin there.
They are collaborating with NASA after all of the shuttles are retired. [editline]05:14PM[/editline]
Yeah fuck science, we don't need to learn things. Technological advancements?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Galactic Whole lot of nothin happenin there.
That's not space exploration. That's space tourism, something very different.
I challenge any of you to name one provable and feasible advantage to visiting the moon again.
Yes Obama is a terrible president because he canceled something that costs unreal amounts of money that isn't needed during an economic crisis.
NASA's budget is pocket change, government wise. It's (going to be) 0.52% of the federal budget.
I challenge any of you to name one provable and feasible advantage to visiting the moon again.
For a single visit, nothing really. But if a permanent base is set up on the moon, it's far easier to launch things into space from the moon than Earth due to the lower gravity.
They are collaborating with NASA after all of the shuttles are retired.
In February 2007, officials from Virgin and NASA signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the potential for collaboration. Doesn't sound like anything is set in stone.
That's not space exploration. That's space tourism, something very different.
they are going to piggyback NASA while they (fail to) design more shuttles. I'm not sure why you say "space exploration" given we haven't explored space in the last half a century and there is currently nothing TO explore.
I dream about genetic engineered crops ending world hunger
Overpopulation.
In February 2007, officials from Virgin and NASA signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the potential for collaboration. Doesn't sound like anything is set in stone.
Read an article a while ago that said NASA would rely on Russia and the private sector during the period between shuttle retirement and new shuttles. Don't remember where it was. Remember, it's been 3 years since then. [editline]05:17PM[/editline]
Overpopulation.
kill yourself don't even start on overpopulation. this planet is not overpopulated. we have barely even begun to even see the threshold of overpopulation. We can fit every human being on the planet on a tiny little island, the vast majority of our world is undeveloped and virgin. We are NOT overpopulated. We will not BE overpopulated by ending mass death and famine, you unsympathetic child.
NASA's budget is pocket change. It's (going to be) 0.52% of the federal budget.
It's better than a 0.00% decrease in the federal budget. Stop acting like going to the moon again is a big deal. It's not. [editline]10:19PM[/editline]
Read an article a while ago that said NASA would rely on Russia and the private sector during the period between shuttle retirement and new shuttles.
For a single visit, nothing really. But if a permanent base is set up on the moon, it's far easier to launch things into space from the moon than Earth due to the lower gravity.
And then what? Being able to waste even MORE money is not an advantage.
It's better than a 0.00% decrease in the federal budget. Stop acting like going to the moon again is a big deal. It's not.
Going to the moon isn't a big deal, but getting to other planets is. The moon is a jumping point to the planets. :science:
spoiler alert: there is nothing of value on mars
Apart from iron-rich rock, a possible outpost for the very first steps to asteroid mining, an overwhelming uptapped supply of aggregate, lots of clay, other metallic minerals etc. Mars would be an environmental dream. You could mine resources extensively without any risk to wildlife or atmosphere. These are all speculations towards a future that most of us won't live to see, but it's these small steps we need to take in order to ensure that we can use what we have to the full extent.

There's too many people concentrated in cities, when they can easily spread out
Until we have the technology to at least go past the moon it seems like a waste of money to me. Space is fascinating but we should focus on the problems we have on Earth first.
Good, they can spend the money on something more worthy.
The world is overpopulated, in cities. There's too many people concentrated in cities, when they can easily spread out
that's because cities have the infrastructure required to survive easily because there is an underabundance of food, power and supplies because we're spending money on bullshit rather than shit that actually matters.
Apart from iron-rich rock, a possible outpost for the very first steps to asteroid mining, an overwhelming uptapped supply of aggregate, lots of clay, other metallic minerals etc. Mars would be an environmental dream.
The world is overpopulated, in cities. There's too many people concentrated in cities, when they can easily spread out
Kill yourself if you think there's a problem.
I dream about genetic engineered crops ending world hunger, fair and blind justice in all nations and cures to cancer. i do not dream about one day being able to hold a rock.
Those are shit dreams. You're a goddamn lawyer, you not starving is pretty much a foregone conclusion. A space program means that you could sign up to Starfleet or some shit and fly around the motherfucking galaxy.
they are going to piggyback NASA while they (fail to) design more shuttles. It doesn't really have anything to do with you.
Sure, he'll cut funds to other government programs but he won't cut back on his own spending spree. Jack ass
The world is overpopulated, in cities. There's too many people concentrated in cities, when they can easily spread out
The moon will not fix this. And neither will Mars.
Investing in private spaceflight will be more beneficial in the long run. Constellation still doesn't exist anywhere but on paper, it used recycled technology (but not recycled enough that it didn't have to be developed from scratch), and they never got the funding to make it happen anyway. There are better places to go and more things to see than the Moon. Plus, SpaceX will be able to lift the same 7 astronauts into orbit for a LOT less than the billion+ dollar shuttle launches.

There is absolutely no point in going to Mars until we can do that cost-effectively, and AFTER we have solved the majority of problems here, on Earth, the only planet in the universe that actually fucking matters.
Kill yourself if you think there's a problem.
ahhaha you're fucking stupid i said there's too much concentration in large cities, like fucking tokyo, or new york
