I tried it earlier today when playing a game to check college football scores, it closed Killzone and took me back to the main home screen when closing the browser.
I just did it with mine and it's working perfectly (not really, the browser lags like a fucker). [editline]7th September 2013[/editline] Do you have one of the original PS3's?
maybe my ps3 is retarded, idk if that is the case then both the PS3 could do this already, to an extent, and the Wii U can do the same thing as the Xbox One when the game being played allows it [editline]7th September 2013[/editline]
Do you have one of the original PS3's?
I have a Super Slim PS3
Apparently I'm gonna need this because everyone will constantly need my damn Xbox One to watch football and then Skype about it.
Revolutionary! Sony better step it up.
Haha wow the Xbox One just provides more ways to get Gamers away from playing their games, this time baiting us to PAUSE our games and use other content available. Fucking microsoft get a job!!
It's depressing how "innovation" and having your console received well is based on how many things you don't change.
more games need to have this the only games that really have play-while-you-install are mmos. mostly because, from what i can tell, the game's required engine and texture and model shit is installed first, and the shit you won't even be able to access until a higher level downloads while you play.
starcraft allows it.
Am I missing something here or couldn't we do this since forever.
yeah its called a pc.
Pausing a game has been a thing since forever. "Tabbing" out of a game (on consoles) has been a thing ever since the PSP :v:
Pausing a game has been a thing since forever. "Tabbing" out of a game (on consoles) has been a thing ever since the PSP :v:
Only the PSP Go could do it.
But will I be able to suspend a multiplayer game?
"Play your games while downloading" Enjoy your corrupted downloads and saves.
steam games origin games any blizzard game so far, no corruption
steam games origin games any blizzard game so far, no corruption
origin and steam games let you do this? [editline]8th September 2013[/editline] or do you mean playing a different game while downloading?
Uh, no. Most consoles up until now had no concept of an operating system per se. Games interfaced directly with the hardware. Multitasking is an operating system function.
Lolno. Do you have any idea how hellish that would be to develop for and how big of a security problem that would be? The OS talks to the hardware, other software to the OS. Just because the operating systems on the consoles are much more limited doesn't mean they aren't operating systems.
origin and steam games let you do this? [editline]8th September 2013[/editline] or do you mean playing a different game while downloading?
Yeah, though on the cost of performance and load times
Yeah, though on the cost of performance and load times
I've never been able to start games while downloading.
It's the console equivalent to alt tabbing.
If it's anything like alt-tabbing, it won't work all the time on 1/3 of the games, another third won't come back up, and the rest will just crash :v:
Still blows my mind.
Oh so now we only need an online connection for the initial setup of xbox one? Thanks microsoft! Now I may change my thoughts from "not getting one yet" to "not getting one ever." Seriously....HOW IS THIS A GOOD IDEA?
"Your digitally downloadable games are available to you on any Xbox One" I like how they didn't say you owned them. Also 'Your digitally downloadable games' means games that can be downloaded not YOUR games. Like when you walk into Walmart they say it's your store, when it really isn't, get it? Also the 'Play while downloading' doesn't sound good; game engines will now have to be designed with this in mind while detracting from game-play factors; games will now have to be structured so files will have to have stream priorities. Hard to explain but rest assured will cause issues on the developers side. The 'Play games off or online' should not be cause for celebration, it should be a standard. A PAUSE BUTTON? We are now praising the Xbox One for having a pause button. We've had pause buttons since the Atari 5200. Wonder how much the Home Gold account costs, however multiplayer should be free considering my internet bill is payed. Shame on both XBomb and PS4.
origin and steam games let you do this? [editline]8th September 2013[/editline] or do you mean playing a different game while downloading?
I do recall that I somehow managed to open Episode 2 whilst it was still downloading once. All the models were wireframes and the only sounds that played were the Jalopy ones.

Yes, every console/handheld in existence has internet capabilities now. None of these devices REQUIRE them, they're just there for people who can take advantage them. Microsoft is making it sound like its still required, despite the DRM shift. That's my issue with it. If xbox one fits your wants and needs then by all means, buy one. I hope you have an awesome time with it. I just think its a really stupid idea to require an internet connection to SETUP the console.
I wonder if they mean the ability to pause the game and turn off the console, with the ability to resume the game when you turn it back on... sort of a standby. I would think they would go more in depth about this if it were the case though.
Didn't the Atari 5200 have a pause button? This isn't anything new.

The Xbox One is practically featureless without internet anyways so why even buy it if you dont have internet access? Shame on both XBomb and PS4.
The only point you made that makes any sense at all is the on and offline gameplay standard. Point 1 where you made no sense: Digitally Downloadable games implies nothing of not having ownership but separating it from a game that is not digitally downloadable to one that is. This simply means one game might not be available for DD, or maybe it means titles you bought off the xbox store. Point 2: We've had play while downloading forever all it takes is some optimization and shit. If the developers want to offer it, it wont hinder the development process at all? Origin streams most of its games fine. Look at Mass Effect. Point 3: The pause button means it can alt tab and use other apps on the Xbox One, did you fucking read the title before you made this shitpost? Point 4: You're getting deals and the online community features such as Xbox party chat, etc. I dont know what PSN offers now besides PS+ but seriously Xbox Live is almost worth the price you pay because they are learning from PS+. Xbox Live parties are something I sorely miss while playing PS3. I'm by no means praising the Xbox One but this hate train needs to end its fucking annoying.

The Xbox One is practically featureless without internet anyways so why even buy it if you dont have internet access?
Pretty much why I dislike it so much and am planning on getting a PS4. Again, if anyone wants to get the xbox one, do it! I hope regardless of what console you buy you have a blast and get your money's worth for it. Its just in my eyes, microsoft have done a very poor job pitching reasons to buy xbox one. Everything I WOULD want out of it the PS4 can do. I understand I'm just one person and other people may feel differently about the consoles this generation but MY mind is made up. PS4 is the better buy for me, and that's what I'm going with. Regardless, something we should all remember is have fun with what we buy. Whether it be Wii U, xbox one, PS4, PC etc etc.
You guys are being a little silly Its not saying there is a pause button, its saying you can suspend your game and do other stuff without closing the game out like you currently have to do with XB360/PS3 except in cases of music or something else like that. Not really like minimize either since it doesn't run the game while you are out of it. think like the 3DS's ability to suspend the game, you simply go to the home screen, can do whatever you want to do on that homescreen and then go back to your game exactly as it was later. AFAIK though the PS4 can do this too

You cannot pause a multiplayer game and emulators have been doing this for years, it's called save state. It's not a big deal.
The 3ds has a form of alt tabbing :downs:
