Kickstarted probably cancelled it after becoming aware of the ongoing battle between them and Garry and didn't want any of it.

Does no one realize that these guys aren't really patent trolls? Until they realized they could probably make a profit from it they never really had bad intent

I seem to remember a bunch of modders pissed off because their mods were being used without permission. Perhaps they all sent complaints to Kickstarter or something.

Wow this thread is full of people posting completely bullshit speculation as facts. Garry was quoted as saying he would defend himself in court if they sued. They never threatened to sue/at least not clearly. People got mad over possible patent trolling, in a response to that GMOD said they would rather rebrand than fight in court, garry said they worked it out. People, now alert to the project figured what a horrible piece of shit it was and that they basically ripped other people's work and resold it/are planning to sell it.

If they stuck with the GameMod name then it wouldn't have been an issue... people would still pronounce it "Gaymod" but that's life. Now they have no hope at all.
