Couldn't agree more, people act like you can just walk into any gunshop and buy a "FULLY AUTO KILLING MACHINE DESIGNED TO KILL BABIES, WITHOUT ANY BACKGROUND CHECK"
To be honest, the media has made it seem like it. While back, CNN showed a video of the "Destructive power of an AR-15", which they had purposely found a video of someone with a slide fire, as a way to mislead people. That and anti gun politicians generally lack understanding on how firearms even operate. This all trickles down to people who don't know any better.
I think the second amendment is a curse. Even if they do get banned at some point in the future, guns will always be a hot topic in the United States, as they have always been since 1787.
Gee baseball bats sure are used in a lot of crimes, I think we should ban them to keep the public safe or at least regulate the sale of baseball bats to keep our communities safe and reduce baseball bat related crime, after all what's so fun about hitting a ball with a stick? -Golfer.
Yeah. The "Well criminals will find a way to get guns anyways!" argument makes no sense. Other countries that regulate guns more seem to be doing well with keeping the guns out of the mentally ill, homicidal and criminal. They do have less violent crime.
Guns are also a lot less prevalent in other countries. So instead they use knives.
I'm only looking to get a weapon so I can go for some target practice on my own time. Since I'm in the National Guard, I don't get much of an opportunity to go practice shooting, and it doesn't do well for a soldier to be a piss poor marksman.
This. Fucking this. I'm still looking for an AR-15 that would make a good M4 analog. I also kind of wish there were civilian ranges with popup targets, that would be beast. BRM was my favorite part of basic. Lining up on the targets, squeezing the trigger, feeling the rifle slam back against my shoulder and watching those green motherfuckers drop was better than crack. I especially loved the challenge those 300 meter targets presented.

My sight picture is all sorts of fucked up, and I can't believe I managed to enlist with my vision being as it is. Also, my favorite part of BCT was when I graduated, because I finally didn't have to deal with the battle buddies who tried to push me further into depression and try to kill myself.
Guns are also a lot less prevalent in other countries. So instead they use knives.
and less people die in attacks. Less attacks also happen because knives require you be close.

West Baltimore has had crime problems for decades now. The police aren't the answer here; arming everyone would totally solve this issue right lol? (No. You would just be exacerbating things.) Meanwhile, here in Kansas City, a mother and daughter were shot with a shotgun in their home (actually happened July 7th, but there's a $10,000 reward out for the bastard). Two days ago, a 35-year-old man was shot to death in South KC. Another man was shot and killed in his apartment. Etc. And Missouri has some pretty lax gun laws. And we're also in the top 10 states nationally for our gun violence rate. Gee, it's almost like they're connected. We've already got poverty, gangs, drug problems... shit, we'd be perfectly alright to throw more guns into the mix of this clusterfuck... that would fix everything... This "gotcha!" game can be played as much as you want, but it isn't so one-sided. Sorry to disappoint.
The guy was shot, he broke into two sisters house, attempted to rape the first and heard the second. The fucker ran into her room and started beating her. The sister who he attempted to rape yelled she was calling the police, he ran back in to deal with her and that's when she shot him multiple times. My bestfriend was called out to this, and I personally know the officers involved. The guy got what he deserved. I saw the women, beaten and bloody. This is defensive gun use. Tragically someone is dead, but had they not had a gun they would both be dead now. The Problem with mental health in this country has nothing to do with inadequacy or reporting, but with the person themselves. Mental Illness is a subjective disorder, you are the only one who feels/sees the things you see. Thus it is very easy to skirt any sort of healthcare simply by not going to the doctor. If people know that seeing the doctor could disrupt their ownership of firearms they simply would not go. I myself am perfect example of this is. I suffer from high anxiety, but I refused to seek mental help in the military. Why? Because doctors were treating my fellow Marines as it being a pre-existing condition, so instead of giving them a medical retirement and a pension they'd classify them as a "failure to adapt" and kick them out without a cent. I at this point in time I was already suffering major kidney issues, and was not going to get kicked out because I "failed to adapt". So unless we force all people to get mental evaluations before owning a firearm nothing would change. That opens up a whole other can of worms when it comes to not only gun rights but personal rights as well. As I said before it's also not difficult to just fake the "right" answers, since whatever you say is the only information the doctors have to go on. So at that point not are you not only putting an excess burden on the law abiding citizen (because you know damn well the states not going to hoof the bill itself, which is discriminatory in its own right to those with lower incomes), you're violating the personal right to privacy of every single individual who wishes to attain a firearm. Lastly depending on how such a law would be implemented you could have your rights stripped away by a sole individual, without due process or appeal. This is especially disturbing since not only does one non-elected individual have control over your rights, but the opinions of different doctors can differ drastically. Hell even the aurora shooter was deemed mentally insane before he was declaired sane and fit for trial by a separate doctor.
Poor Argument Quote.
Not to mention it's cheaper and easier to build a full auto sub-machine gun than it is to make a semi-auto one. For those of you who don't really understand fundamentally how open bolt sub-machine guns work, just look at a STEN and see it's blue prints. Then look at the blue prints to a semi-auto only model. Hell it was designed to me made in small underground shops with minimal tools, and quite frankly a lot of people in the US have the tooling necessary to do it from their own home.
Scrap metal, and internet blueprints, with very minimal experience and you can have an illegal full auto. Also, slam fire shotguns are super easy to make.
Some idiot with a sword is hardly comparable to a guy in full kevlar with an automatic rifle.
This happened once, in California (strict state gun laws), during the Assault Weapons Ban (strict federal gun laws). All those rules didn't do shit when the weapons were illegally acquired.
To be fair we screwed the pooch and let Mexican cartels straw purchase semi-auto AK and AR rifles from stores in Arizona during Operation Fast and Furious. Dumb mother fuckers thought putting GPS beacons with a battery life of I think it was 3 weeks tops in them thinking "We can find the bad guys now!"
That would be the ATF, who are ironically anti-gun. They're also the laughing stock of Federal Law Enforcement, and with Waco or Fast and Furious, it's no question why.
I read a really good op-ed in the paper today about guns in the US. It was a no bullshit article that called out everyone who is ignorant to see that while people are the issue, guns only facilitate their crimes. It also outlined, what I thought was, a good idea of taking guns off the street. It involved stopping the sale of new firearms, and only taking the arms away from those who are in contact with law enforcement (aka- used in crimes, domestic violence, mental health, etc).
No!
here is a damning argument for gun legislation, swords and other large, sharp objects are banned, they are, by definition, armaments designed for killing people. Why do guns get to be legal and defended fanatically by constitutionalists, but swords are illegal and the police are trained to kill anyone in public possessing one? EDIT: just to be clear, i'm in favor of all arms being legal, if only because there are bigger problems we need to be focusing on than 10k deaths a year. it's the same stance i have on terrorism.

Guns may not mean freedom, but no guns definitely means no freedom. Or rather no way to defend that freedom.
What exactly does this mean? Our freedom is defended through a system of checks and balances in the government preventing one person or group of persons from taking total control. Men with guns do not factor into this equation past the year 1800. The same goes for every other developed country.
It just means that if our gun rights are stripped, there's really nothing stopping them from stripping other rights, or changing what those rights means. The whole checks and balances thing will mean nothing if the others are changed. It's like the Russia constitution, it has all these checks and what not and it's practically worthless with Putin in power. Of coarse Russia is different, but imagine if some like Trump got in power. With the massive popular support (if he somehow wins) and a congress that supports him, he can practically do anything.

Broke down doors at gunpoint demanding people's guns. Second and fourth amendment rights infringed.

Investigators are looking into what Greene was doing there exactly where the sisters lived; he may not have been malicious at all. According to his family, he was mentally-handicapped. Someone has been shooting dogs up in Overland Park. They shot a senior living center therapy dog the other day. It hasn't died yet at least.
he was mentally-handicapped.
See? This is always the root cause that no one wants to look at.

The STEN which you referenced is a perfect example. It was hated by most of the soldiers and partisans who had to use it because it jammed all the time, fired in the wrong mode, and could even fly off into a full-auto frenzy if you so much as swung it around too much or dropped it accidentally. Actually, the British did a thing where they'd just toss a couple primed ones into buildings through doors and windows to clear rooms out; that's how unreliable they were as weapons: if you jostled them, you could make them go off until their magazines were empty. I mean they still used it, because it wasn't completely worthless and was better than nothing, but it wasn't really something to be proud of considering its inferior quality that earned it a "love to hate it" reputation. How many people would actually be motivated enough to make their own homemade firearms anyway? Obviously some enthusiasts out there would be, but I seriously doubt the majority of gun owners would be that willing to put forth the kind of time and effort necessary to make their own firearms. Because he wasn't armed with anything; the sisters were the ones who had the gun, not him. And again, as the article indicates, it's still being investigated. Nobody except Pilot claims to know what happened.
Its a poor place full of gangs surrounded by states that don't regulate guns.
This is stupid ass "argument." This country has thousands of gun laws, and they work 99% of the time. The guns used in these crimes are stolen. They don't go to a gun store in VA or PA to buy guns and bring them back in state. They still have to fill out FFL paperwork and have out of state, in state and ATF verify their shit before transferring. Typical clueless foreign opinion.

None of it's about your average gun owner, it's about the criminals who want that source of power and are willing to go great lengths to get them. If you're average joe could build a sten, imagine what a morally corrupt individual with a machine shop could accomplish and the kind of black market it would fuel.
