Holy crap, my computer is a piece of art!
I had a friend taking art classes once. When he applies himself he's actually a pretty decent artist, but when he found out someone put a bicycle wheel on a stool and it sold at an art auction for thousands of dollars, he said "Fuck this" and dropped out.
wow. that's an absolutely terrible attitude to have wrt to literally any vocation or endeavor

good thing he did since he clearly doesn't understand what art is
That is exactly what it is. A machine to show off its workings.
In fact we need a lot more art museums filled with car engines, steam locomotives and the such.
Car shows, train museums.
They exist.

Yeah but you need to look deeper into it and see how it visually represents its role in society as a whole.
Oh man, I love when facepunch discusses the validity of art.
good thing he did since he clearly doesn't understand what art is
Art's expression is the result of subconscious thinking coming out over the course of a long, torturous, creative process.
Clearly YOU don't understand what art is.
This pisses me off because I'm somewhat talented myself and might have pursued a career in art if it weren't for this kind of bullshit.
I myself am a full time artist, doing tributes, fan fiction, and other assorted imagery from the critically acclaimed "Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff".
My work is widely respected, a beacon of light in the masses of bullshit art (That is anything not related to Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff)

Here we can clearly see the two men/boys having a hug to demonstrate their mutual friendship. But it goes deeper than merely that. Perhaps these two genuinely love each other but cannot express it in such a way that conforms to the ideals of modern society, thus being forced to show it in other more subtle ways through bro hug bumps? You may also consider that it represents the authors fantasies, and how he desperately wishes for romantic affection from his "Bro" but cannot bring himself to do it due to the way the world today works.
Truly it is a stunning piece of art to be appreciated like one would of a fine wine from the Pierre-Lou vent Vineyards in south-west Gascoigne. Many a artists seek to represent the world as it is, try to show their emotion in it and even to paint it the way they see it themselves and achieved fame for their ground-breaking work. However much like Homer the pages of SBaHJ will last for thousands of years, perhaps long enough for it to outlast all other culture that was unable to compete with the outshone brilliance of this webcomic.
Circumlocution is a word that has been present in my dictionary for a length of time comparable to that of nearly a decade.

if abstract art pisses you off to the point of not wanting to be an artist, then don't try to be one, because you clearly aren't one.

Didn't say anything about abstract art.

Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff counts as art actually
It's using terribleness as an artistic device to make it funny
comedy is a type of art

i thought SBAHJ and other works in the same vein were considered a form of dadaism
Didn't say anything about abstract art.
then what did you mean by "this kind of bullshit"

what's funny is that a while ago sobotnik revealed the reason he hated modern art. it was because his "classical" paintings were awful and he didn't like people telling them they were awful.

oh, so he's like an art supervillain! after the plague of modern art left his classical paintings in shambles, he vowed to be an annoyance to anyone who dared discuss it further........
then what did you mean by "this kind of bullshit"
"so deep"
Art people like interpretation instead of looks when in reality it is what it is. They get so absorbed in the interpretation they forget art exists because it looks cool.
Does that make sense?

that's abstract art lol
[editline]26th August 2011[/editline]
saying art exists for the purpose of looking cool is the most superficial fucking thing
that's abstract art lol
I'm pretty sure that is a harddrive..
I'm pretty sure that is a harddrive..
the concept behind it is abstract art. is this really that difficult to understand?
the concept behind it is abstract art. is this really that difficult to understand?
I don't see any abstraction or art.
I don't see any abstraction or art.
i'm very sorry about your sight disorder mr. ross. i wouldn't have brought it up if i had been aware :(
I don't see any abstraction or art.
do you know what abstraction means
I don't see any abstraction or art.
are you seriously that thick
i'm very sorry about your sight disorder mr. ross. i wouldn't have brought it up if i had been aware :(
Nice argument- totally changed my opinion.
your opinion is utterly based on spite like sobotnik
you just hate people you associate with art or whatever thus you become antagonistic towards it.
For fuck's sake it is a goddamn harddrive what is wrong with you people.
A fucking harddrive, on a pedestal, in an art museum.
goddamn.
Nice argument- totally changed my opinion.
You don't really have an opinion, you're just incredibly ignorant
Nice argument- totally changed my opinion.
arguing against objective fact isn't an opinion. if you want to look at something that exists and say it doesn't, that's fine; that's your prerogative. it just makes you a bit dense.
