This entire thread is artistic :v:
Also, just a browse through one of the torrents was unbelievable. 2313 CDs, and thats just one of the torrents.
Eh I don't think that list of stuff is really worth $5 million

Maybe the impending lawsuit is.

I call this piece The Reflection, as it shows the thoughts of a dude after much contemplation. I believe the 3D-Glasses really add depth to Gandhi's image.

you can't visually tell that there's 5 million dollars worth of anything on that thing, therefore this is dumb
the fact that it has that much illegal data is neat, heck putting it on display isn't bad either, but it's not "art"

Anyone can do this.

It's a USB stick with some web graphics and flash files on it.
Let's put it in a museum and call it art.

That could work. "Sir, why do you have 2TB of illegally downloaded high resolution tentacle porn?"
"It's a piece of art?"
"Oh, my bad. Carry on sir! I'll see to having the charges dropped immediately."

What's the point in calling something "art" if "art" can be anything?
This is why I hate modern art, it makes "art" a useless definition that can be used on absolutely everything.

That is....man
What?
who gets paid for that shit

This is not fucking art.
Pictures, music and poetry are art
This is my new piece of art, I call it "Missed the fucking point by a mile"
Art 404
Error: Art not found.
This is my new piece of art, I call it "Missed the fucking point by a mile"
It's not art.
It's more a social statement relating to the Internet.
Nice piece, but not particularly revolutionary, by which I mean, not particularly worthy of display.
Should have printed out the binary code of it all, and wallpapered the gallery with it.

Also known as art.
Well, of the top of my head I can say it is a comment on today's society and it's disregard for the laws which bind creative materials to the original creator.
not very difficult to extrapolate such a simple meaning
Where's the coment?
Where's the coment?
It's that black thing in OP.
speaking of modern art

That was a good one, could have used more Robotnik or some Mario Bros cartoons.

yours wouldn't be as good as the one in the OP (i'm serious btw)
Well that's modern "art" for you.
It's not art.

A statement can be art.
If someone says something is art, it's art. Irrespective of the "quality" of the work, the definition of something as art is what makes something art.
It's almost like Dada art. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain_(Duchamp)
People who know nothing about art calling pieces of art shit are one of the worse kinds of people. Art isn't about painting a pretty landscape. Art is a way for an artist to express their feelings/opinions in a sensual way. The point is to get you to think.
Well that's modern "art" for you.
Cool. Thanks for your contribution. goodbye
Also known as art.
Doesn't art require some kind of skill or something?
Like beyond going on tpb and getting some music and adobe programs?
This is especially true since the advent of photography. If you want realistic portraits and images, then use a camera. Contemporary paintings don't usually try to be realistic anymore.
The reason this is "Modern Art" is because the lay man is not familiar with the idea that the value of 5 of these could fit on a hard drive

That's the lifetime income of 14 doctorate-level income earners, or 30 average income earners. A lifetime of income for each of them. While this may not impress you, the average person cannot even fathom that concept.

no.

Nope.

Skill, and / or commentary on something, and / or clever ideas.

And, like you mentioned, people who do know something about art, but still call art shit, are Dadaists.
Well, that or art critics.
Art is so broad that even anti-art is art.
Which is why art is great.
Art is anything which elicits some kind of emotional or intellectual response. Or does not.
It's a rather broad category, you see.
the point of defining something as "art" isn't about the level of quality or technical skill of the work, it's only to convey that something functions as art
But what about when it does? Would you say it is better art than the art that doesn't?
Art is anything which elicits some kind of emotional or intellectual response. Or does not.

So meatspin is an art?
Art is anything which elicits some kind of emotional or intellectual response. Or does not.

continuing from this; therefore if someone calls something art, then it immediately begins to function as art because it now elicits interpretation and critical thought
So meatspin is an art?
If someone says it is then it is.
Get real, it is just a fucking harddrive.
Art is such a bullshit business.
The people saying that this isn't art are just proving that it is. Look, art is about getting people to think about something or to deliver an emotion or a thought.
Although I don't find this piece of art that interesting.. Made me think about how value is determined in our modern society and how ridiculous it is in the end.
Get real, it is just a fucking harddrive.

I used to think that, but then I was shown that art can be anything.

It makes me think about the arrogant prick who downloaded a shitload of movies and was able to bullshit it to stupid people as art.
