Raven is fucking awesome
[editline]4th April 2013[/editline]
Some people have already begun digging through it:
Loving some of the comments in this code
// there has to be a better way than this...
//We can do this, we have the memory
// if we don't call OTLook, things wedge
// don't spew tons of messages
And my favorite, under the animal AI
// Do I Have A Leader?
// AM I A Leader?
// If Our Leader Is Dead, Clear Him Out
// If My Leader Isn't His Own Leader, Then, Use His Leader
// Eh. Can this get more confusing?
:v:
I still have both games installed...
I think it's time to replay them both. Jedi Knight 2 was the main culprit of eating my hours half a decade ago.
I even had a name for the flechette shotgun, the Popcorn Chicken gun, due to the secondary fire looking like delicious fried (and glowing) pieces of chicken :3
I used to port CS 1.6 custom weapon models for JK2 and JKA and despite being very clear I only ported them people always thought I had modelled them and asked me to be the modeller for their modding team despite me having absolutely no talent (I did decent effects though).
Fond memories

Because no one plays old games, right?
I was in the clan that had Jam that made the kill tracker program, i fucking loved JO and JA and considered myself to be one of the better duelists in the game, everyday i'd rush home to just duel for hours on end.
Well holy shit, that's so nice of you, Raven. Now if we also had a source for Soldier of Fortune 1/2, that'd be perfect. Just imagine what can be done with SoF's gore system. For example, implementing it on JA's source code. It's gonna be the most brutal Star Wars game ever.

Makes me think that some kind of ultra-violent competitive online melee fighting game would pop out of the two source codes being put together.
Sounds good!

Yeah, I mean, like, modding an old game does nothing. No-one's going to play them 'cause they're old anyway so what's the point in modding them?
Aw yeah, with the Source Code the modders can make even more indepth mods, or even source ports. Hell, with people having done source ports for Quake 1 and 2 and these games using altered versions of their engines, we might see something like BerserkerQuake2 or the like here in a couple years. :v:

It means any modder can make mods with full access to source code, which means sky's the limit to what can be done to the game.

Yeah, they should totally release source for that, it'd be worth it for GHOUL features alone.
I'd really like to see some modders upgrade the graphic settings. Support 1680/1050/1920x1080/2560x1440
Guess its a matter of time before there are source ports, ala ZDoom and the like for this. And in theory, wouldn't something like FreeDoom eventually be possible?

I sadly never really got the chance to play JK2: Outcast as much as I would like, but didn't it use the Ghoul system too?
Wikipedia surely mention it, and there's a folder in the source labeled "Ghoul2".
"Upgraded versions of the GHOUL system was later used in other Raven titles such as Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast."

Completely reverse engineered version of the original.
I was planning on doing housework today. Guess I'll have to find out my old JA disk and play that instead.

You do know that Doom still has an day-to-day active community because of modding, right?
This is great news, these games are beautiful. I discovered Dark Forces back in like 1998 and didn't play Jedi Knight until 2000ish then got Jedi Outcast and Academy as they came out. Still have their folders on one of my HDD's

You can already do that with a simple .ini tweak.
I wish they make a new JK game

Should take place in the Vong wars, be interesting.
If anyone is still looking to play Jedi Academy, send me a PM here. I'm well set in with the community. I could answer almost any questions more than likely.
It's amusing to me someone would dismiss JK2 because it's "old"
Have you actually played any the new star wars games? They fucking suck in execution and content. Force Unleashed was BAD. Besides, no star wars game has had fluid saber combat like JK2 has, nor as good movement.
Fuck the new school.

Problem is that in JKII people abused the force choke + crushing damage combo to no fucking end and it single-handedly ruined the multiplayer.
[editline]4th April 2013[/editline]
I mean don't get me wrong I love the combat and how dynamic it can be it's just that people relied on the very few unbalanced cheap shots.

Wait, a version of the Quake 3 Engine that has support for realistic lightsaber combat?
Somebody put this shit in regular Quake 3!

And it's the reason it's on literally on almost everything with a screen these days.
I have the Jedi Knight pack
I never play them and yet I regret nothing because it was bomb as fuck in the day
despite how 'old' and 'shitty they are' considering the age and how quality it is they stand out.
This game is the absolute dog's fuckin arsehole, definitely one of the best I've ever played
I play JKA still to this day.

It already supports whatever resolution you want, you just need to use r_mode -1 and r_customheight/width.

The UI doesn't fit right though afaik.
I still have a PC CD copy of JKA
