While my view towards climate change is irrelevant, I think only good can come from moving towards a cleaner way of live. There are immediate benefits to reducing pollution output, purely in regards to our health. There are immediate economic benefits in encouraging the population to reduce energy consumption. Sustainable resources and consumption, ecosystem conservation, and the acidification of our oceans can only be aided by our attempts, no matter our motive. The only concern I have is radical change without suitable measures to ease transition. No coal power plant should be removed until its grid output is readily substituted by a cleaner source. Although that is only one example of radical change, I think you get the point. That's my 2 cents.
hear hear, sensible thinking. the problem is (as far as I know) we can't subsidise these things that easily due to monetary, locational or political factors (eg/ it costs too much for geothermal, hydroelectric/windfarms require "ideal" locations, and politics being what it is it'll be too little too late.)
is this a joke? it was fucking 3 degrees Fahrenheit the other night...
average annual global temperatures were the highest on record
is this a joke? it was fucking 3 degrees Fahrenheit the other night...
Global averages. Extremes of weather being caused by changes in global climates and circulatory systems. You just don't understand fucking anything about this. And in regards to the banter back and forth between individuals either side of the climate change fence, here's a quote for you.
If a man would pursue Philosophy, his first task is to throw away conceit. For it is impossible for a man to begin to learn what he has a conceit that he already knows.
That's not to say that I believe either side is wrong (although would it stifle your efforts if I did? I don't think so), but rather your efforts seem unavailing. After all, it is easier to enlighten the ignorant, rather than the misinformed.
Global warming hasn't effected me. I think this year has been the coldest for Florida, at least in recent years.
Global warming hasn't effected me. For example, if a government tries to make a carbon capturing system, those who don't view global warming as a issue, they think that the government is wasting their taxes on something worthless. While you and I can see advancement, it's up to the public forum whether or not things will happen. It's up to those who want a healthier environment to convince others that it's the best thing.
Ireland was completely frozen for a whole month for the first time in many, many years. Hardly warm.
Three words AGW deniers don't understand: average annual global
gamefreak was being being sarcastic. I appreciate that you want people to believe that they're in imminent danger but it certainly doesn't make you look any better when you take people who just being funny seriously.
Global warming is fake because I opened my fridge this morning and noticed that it was performing much better than usual. If the AVERAGE GLOBAL TEMPERATURES were truly increasing the temperature inside my refrigerator would also increase because that's definitely how averages work.
Ireland was completely frozen for a whole month for the first time in many, many years. We're currently climbing out of a local minimum in solar activity.
Okay stupid shit like this should really be bannable.
Wow rude
All that needs to be said is this:
According to the 2007 Fourth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 20th century.
Combine the small average global increase with the huge regional changes and we got ourselves in a heap of shit. Ecosystems, especially ocean life, are extremely sensitive to any change whatsoever. Keep in mind the figure above is average surface temperature, it says nothing about what's going on in the ocean.
they can adapt [editline]17th January 2011[/editline] if they don't, they suck at life
they can adapt [editline]17th January 2011[/editline] if they don't, they suck at life
Natural selection doesn't work when one lifeform is artificially changing the environment at an unprecedented rate, this argument needs to stop immediately
